"Is féidir leat braid?": You can braid.

Siobhan looked at him curiously as she struggled with her hair. He was offering to braid it? Well she could braid her own hair but she wasn't sure if she could do so while seated on a branch with her bag and her books. Tentatively she nodded and adjusted her seating so that her hair cascaded down her back in soft coils where the hair eventually straightened out but still had a noticable bounce to it. She tried not to think about the fact that someone else other than her was braiding her hair for the first time in nearly a ayear. She'd gotten quite good at doing it herself but this was a rather tall tree and she was nervous about how to do so.

Unlike Siobhan, Victor was far closer to the tree trunk than she was and she weirdly had a feeling that she could trust him to touch her deep oaky hair without accidentally pushing her out of the tree. Her hair was getting quite bothersome now... She rearranged herself in the tree to sit closer to Victor on the branch as she felt his fingers weave through her hair like boats cutting through the water. God whatever they were doing to the magical shampoo here was so much better than the stuff she had brought from home. She wondered if it was a potion or perhaps a product that she could buy in stores in Diagon Alley.

"Is féidir leat braid?" Siobhan asked as she felt the smootheness every five seconds or so as her hair changed from being windswept and full of the misty seabreeze from the Greak Lake. It was slowly being worked into the braid and she could finally see out of her hair as it was pulled away. She had to admit she'd never had a braid done so delicately before and she wondered where he had picked up a skill. Perhaps a sister, or a very bored mother.

She did blush slightly when it was over though. She quite enjoyed the moment even though it was just through a friend helping a friend. She didn't have many friends so she was hoping that she would be able to add him to the proverbial "list" or roster of those she could study with or perhaps meet for a small pastry snack in the Great Hall. She wasn't sure just yet but she hoped that perhaps she could have some actual friendship with him.

"Thank you. I love climbing trees but I always fear that trying to fix my hair and maintain my balance is always the hardest. I think it's a skill that you have sit throigh many lessons to learn." Siobhan explained with a smile. Not that he could see it but she could definetley feel it. It was rather different of her to get flustered by the actions of another person but here she was absolutely red in the face from the hands braiding her hair to keep it out of her face and out of sight out of mind.

As her hair was finished up, she looked back down at her notes from her textbook. She was very close to turning those E grades into O grades which she was very proud of her. Not many other muggle-borns that she was aware of had such high grades and it made her feel very pleased with herself. She just needed to keep rounding togrades up in order to get the O's

She turned to face Victor one more time with a large beaming smile as thanks. It was a very well done braid and it sat nicely atop her head and pouring down the sides and back. It was nearly as long as the green pile.

''Is féidir liom braid'' He replied to her, as he gently pulled her hair into three strands and began folding them over, taking care to not tug too hard or allow them to go slack, well practiced motions allowed him to maintain a flow to his work. His sister preferred looks to functionality, something he found rather odd as the braid was supposed to be both. Nevertheless he would weave in flowers or colourful leaves when she wanted it done. He decided to perhaps avoid doing that to Siobhan, it was strange enough that she accepted, if he had to rate his chances, he would have rated them poorly. Yet here they were, away from the crowds, overlooking the lake and castle, her reading a book and him braiding her hair. It was almost something out of a fairy tale and as his hands worked their rhythm his mind began to wonder for a moment on to the nature of this scene.

He found it strange, the awareness of the moment he was in, the girl who's hair he was braiding, coupled with the view, the sigh of wind through the trees and the faint laughter of other students 'somewhere', over there, away. Here however, they were alone, just the two of them in the trees. No one else was here, in this moment in time, it was a completely unique moment in his life, perhaps hers as well, one which would never be faithfully recorded by either of them or anyone else and one which was unlikely to ever happen again.
And it was completely private. He knew that even as his hands wove through her hair and gave it a shape, he couldn't even begin to describe what he was doing or how he felt about it. Yet, it was completely worth it, somehow, it didn't make sense, nor did it have it. The view was quite spectacular and that was very much enough.

He finished his work, bound the base in a tight final knot and let her turn around to inspect it. ''tá míle fáilte romhat'' he said, very nearly about to add more before biting his tongue and letting her continue. He had to admit he was quite happy with his work, it might not be academic, but it meant a little more than a grade. He marveled at his handiwork, and at her, whispered something under his breath and picked up his own textbook to begin reading. If he was being honest, he wasn't actually reading but just staring blankly at the page, there were thoughts and strange feelings he didn't quite know about. Being here, with his new found companion caused a wave of emotions he didn't yet have a name for. He liked it, but was conflicted and mildly confused, did everyone have these thoughts? were they common? They certainly didn't feel like it, but they weren't all that unpleasant, just unusual.
He glanced up again, a faint glow on her cheeks made him smile broadly as he looked back down, maybe, just maybe, she enjoyed it as well. Being fair to himself, she was still here so she couldn't think too badly of him, which was a start. He elected to try to read on and after about thirty seconds, gave up. Transfiguration was not for him, he should have brought a history book.

''What do you make of Transfiguration? I don't understand this homework, the Conservation of Mass, it seems so distant from things like charms...''

Siobhan's eyes lit up as he asked her about her take on Transfiguration. She quickly adjusted her position on the tree branch so as to face him better as they talked. She was so excited to talk about one of her favorite subjects. It was after all, the closest thing that she had to a mathematics and science class here at Hogwarts. She smiled happily as she pointed at one of the diagrams shown on the page they were both looking at.

"It is different but only in the best way! Charms is such a wonderful subject but Transfiguration is absolutely- it's awe inspiring! To rearrange the basic structure of life and change one thing into another- I can't even begin to explain how amazing it is to me. But I can see how it could be quite confusing. The Conservation of Mass is messy." She rambled as she pointed out a few diagrams and explained how she understood them in her head. As she talked she grew more and more comfortable with her voice as she continued to explain. The logical part of her brain continued to churn out simple explanations of Transfiguration law to her newfound friend.

Honestly, it was so wonderful to know that someone in her year was just as interested in talking about these subjects. She was happy to know that when it came to likeminded individuals, she wasn't alone. It was even freeing to know that their conversations could be carried out in Gaelic as well, which only raised her comfort level with Victor. This had been one of her fears about coming to Hogwarts; the lack of peers who would understand her need to absorb information. When she had been attending school in Killarney, she had been left out by many of her classmates due to the fact that she would rather spend her free time in school, to dedicate to reading or working on her homework. Even her teachers had believed her to be advanced her age group and encouraged her to keep studying and not interact with her classmates. This had led to a large wedge that she had driven between herself and the other kids in her class.

But it had never bothered her because- well she had her siblings! And her plants! And... Well she hadn't needed friends then. However, Hogwarts was a completely different world. And because she knew nothing of it, it would be in her best interest to make friends and keep them. Victor seemed like he was genuinely interested in getting to know her and shared her interests when it came to learning... Well at least if he was bored with her, he wasn't vocalizing it and she was happy that he was listening to her.

It wasn't until she found herself voicing her hypotheses about the constraints of Gamp's Law that she realized she had been talking wthout taking a whole breath and letting her new friend have an opinion. She stopped short mid sentence and looked over at him from their shared spot on the tree branch.

"Tá brón orm, tá mé ag fánaíocht... I just haven't found someone who's interested in learning as much as I am. This- I mean, I'm a muggleborn. This whole world is brand new to me and I feel compelled to explore every bit of it." Siobhan explained with a small redness to her cheeks. It wasn't often that she felt embarrassed by her ramblings and delicate need to absorb knowledge but here with Victor, she didn't want to scare him off.

"B-But you like Charms right? Do you have a favorite spell you've learned? I like learning about Jinxes!" She asked in an attempt to show that she could listen to others and not just talk as though she was the only voice in the room.
