Winter stroll
As they were strolling through the snow-covered Hogwarts grounds, Augustus was avidly listening to Tracey, as she proceeded to give him many details about her Metamorphmagus ability. So from what he understood, it was mostly a genetic predisposition and not something someone could simply learn. What a shame ! He too, would’ve loved to change his appearance at will.
- That is fascinating, he replied. I wish I could do that too !
While they kept walking towards the Great Lake, Augustus took the time to admire his surroundings. It really did show that it was the holidays, as the grounds were usually swarming with students. Now, they were but a few souls roaming around. Nothing to complain about though. Augustus surely missed his friends but he was all too well aware that this vacation was going to be short lived and he would soon be back in class.
- I’m sure you’re a great witch still !, he replied to Tracey as she said she wasn’t particularly. I mean, you are in Ravenclaw !, he continued playfully, while pointing at her house’s sigil. My grandmother was in Ravenclaw and she sure ended up being a great witch ! How do you like it there ? I don’t think I’ve had the chance to make friends with … he hesitated for a moment as to how he should phrase that, with your kind, he finally said, making sure to use and overly exaggerated pompous tone, while sporting a pretentious grimace and then a heartfelt laugh, hence ensuring she understood he was joking.

While walking and also explaining more about her ability, Tracey looked at all the nature around her and smiled. Tracey really loves nature and she even likes how nature looks when its covered in snow. She looked over at the lake and wondered if it was frozen or not, but she didn't want to try and walk on it, since she didn't want to fall into the lake again, so she didn't go over to the lake and she continued following Augustus.
"My mom told me that when she had told people about her ability, they said the exact same thing as what you said, that they also wanted the ability. I wish everyone could have the ability, but not everyone can since it's very rare. Maybe when your older you could learn a spell that could change your appearance," Tracey says.
Tracey didn't want the break to be over yet. She loved how quiet the castle was and wished that the castle was always this quiet, but sadly it couldn't be like how she wanted it to be like, it could only be this quiet while breaks were happening. Maybe she'll stay at the castle again for spring break, but she didn't know yet.
"That is true, but I'm still a first year, but then again, I do get O's in most of my classes. My mother was a Gryffindor and she's a great witch and a healer as well. But, my father was a Slytherin, someone they fell in love, I'm not sure how tho. Aren't the two houses enemies? Ravenclaw is a very nice house, the common room is nice too, the only thing I don't like is the walk, it's all the way in the West Tower! Oh, I also tend to get the riddles in 1-4 tries. What d'you your kind? You mean a metamorphmagi or a Ravenclaw, I'm quite confused. Oh, also, how's Gryffindor?" Tracey says.
This is probably the first time she had spoken this much to anyone, and she was quite glad that she was even able to speak this much to one person as well. Tracey knew that this was a very big improvement, which is always good.

Winter stroll
As the two young students were strolling around, they got closer and closer to the Great Lake. During their walk, Augustus took the time to appreciate the winter scenery, void of the swarming crowd of students that usually littered the grounds. At the same time, he was also scrutinizing the young Tracey. Now that he knew about her ability, he was trying to catch any changes that might occur on her appearance, as he was fascinated by such a manifestation of magic. The conversation went on for a little while about Tracey’s ability and its origin, but as they kept wandering, their talk turned to Hogwarts Houses.
- Well I guess that’s a way to put it !, blurted out Augustus as he started to laugh when Tracey mentioned that Gryffindors and Slytherins were supposed to be enemies. I think of it more as a rivalry to be honest, he replied. I mean, we do have an historical tendency to … he paused for a moment, thinking carefully about his next few words, … not get along, if I may put it this way, he ended up saying. However, personally, I have yet to make enemies, he revealed with a big wide smile. Haven’t got the chance to interact much with Slytherins yet, but I’m sure I can make some friends there too !
They kept walking and walking, as the time flew by. At some point in the conversation, Augustus felt a noose tightening around his neck, when Tracey asked him what he meant by previously mentioning “her kind”. He thought he had made it very clear that he was only joking and now he felt as a complete prejudiced idiot. He face became violently red as he felt his heart sinking.
- Oh my, I’m so sorry, he stuttered. I … I meant Ravenclaws obviously !, he quickly spat out. He knew by the beginning of the conversation that Tracey wasn’t always comfortable talking about her Metamorphmagus ability and now he sensed that he had not helped on that case. I … I didn’t meant it though, it was only a joke ! He took a deep breath and finally accepted that he had been an idiot. Look, I apologize, I didn’t mean to offend. I only wanted to tease the Ravenclaw in you, he said while nervously laughing.

While walking Tracey kept on looking at the nature around her as well as the pretty empty grounds which she knew would become busy again once the break was over and they were back to classes. Tracey was dreading that day, she didn't want it to come, she wanted the castle to stay nice a peaceful as it was now forever, but she knew that couldn't happen.
"I suppose your right. I have met a Slytherin on the Astronomy Tower, but I don't think we got along. Ah well, maybe you'll have better luck! D'you know how the rivalry started? I asked my parents once but they wouldn't say, and I also tried to find it in Hogwarts A History, but I gave up with reading the book," Tracey says.
Tracey wasn't a big fan of reading books and would often get tired of reading a book if she didn't need to read the book for homework purposes. Tracey wasn't sure why she didn't like reading, but hopped that the people here could help her find a perfect book that might be able to let her read a book completely without getting bored or falling asleep.
"No, no, it's ok. I don't really know when people are joking, so I'm sorry for making you feel like I was offend. I was confused, that was all, I wasn't offend. Actually, I don't think I've ever been offended or mad at someone in my life," Tracey says, now feeling bad for not getting the joke.

Augustus felt an instant relief as Tracey reassured him that she did not take offence at his previous comment. It would’ve have been terrible to pass as a bigot against the Metamorphmagi population. As he took back his eases, he felt quite surprised at Tracey’s revelation about her temper.
- Wait, he said. You’re telling you have NEVER felt offended or mad at someone or something !?, he exclaimed. The simple thought of never feeling anger felt completely alien to him. He wasn’t a symbol of calmness himself, as he was way too passionate for that, which often leading him to feel angry at things and people. But even aware of his proneness to that emotion couldn’t balance his astonishment at the idea of actually never feeling it. Do you mean that you don’t get angry easily ? You’d be the first person I’ve ever met to have never felt anger, he pursued. How is that going for you ?, he asked with a twisted smile. He didn’t know anything about the young Ravenclaw, but if in fact her statement was true, he truly felt sorry for her. Anger was part of life, as much as joy, sadness, fear, or any other human emotion, as far as he was concerned.
It was only after reacting to that statement that he redirected his focus at her previous question concerning the famous Gryffindor-Slytherin rivalry. Luckily for him, he had actually read Hogwarts, A History. More than that, he actually knew the source of the rivalry even before reading the book.
- That’s a good question ! Actually, the rivalry started way back. And I mean wayyy back. It started amongst the founding fathers. Godric Gryffindor and Salazar Slytherin. Did you know they were actually friends in their youth ? Huh, who would’ve thought, he whispered as he lost himself contemplating the scenery. He however brought himself back quite quickly. After founding Hogwarts, they had a major disagreement concerning …, he paused for a moment. He knew it was a delicate subject and he was so glad to bring it up as a Gryffindor himself. Had he been a Slytherin, he would’ve been ashamed of his founding father’s actions. Concerning blood status actually, he said dramatically. Even though the subject didn’t particularly concern him or Tracey, the scars left from the previous war about 30 years ago were still fresh. As you might know, Salazar Slytherin wanted to restrict Hogwarts access to “pureblood” students only, he pursed while quoting with his hands as he said pureblood. The other members were strongly opposed to the idea, especially Godric Gryffindor. From there on, the rest is history and the two Houses never fully healed from that schism.

✯There is nothing scary about naturally talented people, hardworking people are the ones to be afraid of ✯Upon hearing Augustus' reply about Tracey not being angry, she smiled at the boy, and nodded her head, simply. She heard her carrying on, and decided to wait for him to finish, when she was sure he was done, she said,
"Yep, never gotten angry once! I think in the future, I might get angry, so I think for now, I'm very good at holding my temper. It's going great for me actually! I'm really easygoing, so I tend to not get offended, but if some random pureblood said the m word, I would probably yell at them, cause that's a really big word, and can be hurtful, so yeah, that's the only way I think I could get mad easily, but other than that, just chill, and never got mad,"
The next thing the boy said, was the explanation of the rivalry between the two houses. She found this fascinating, very fascinating, and took a while to respond, since she was still thinking of what to say, but in the end she said,
"Wow, so they were really friends in their childhood, wow, that's very interesting. I don't think any of the houses are bad, nor are the founders. I wonder if the chamber is still here, d'you think one of us could open it? Actually, maybe not me, I'm a metamorphmagus, can only change my appearance, can't speak Parseltongue,"

Upon hearing Tracey’s explanation on her formidable ability to never get mad, Augustus couldn’t do much but nod. Especially as she expressed her repugnance at the vile slur some purebloods used to refer to Muggle born wizards. He agreed wholeheartedly with her on that, as he was fiercely against any kind of prejudice.
However, as she pursued upon the subject of the Slytherin-Gryffindor rivalry, the young wizard couldn’t help himself but feel perplexed. He agreed on her claim that there were not good or bad houses. That he was sure of, as he himself had made some very kind friends from all houses. He somehow doubted her claim about the founders though. She was probably right by stating that they probably weren’t as bad or as good as we like to believe, as he studied history and knew it was biased, but he found it difficult in his heart to accept or forgive Salazar’s actions against Muggle-borns. Given the fact he was friends with Godric, he definitely must have had some good in him, but Augustus doubted there was any left towards the end. The young boy’s eyes opened wide when Tracey mentioned the infamous Chamber of Secrets, wondering if someone at Hogwarts could open it. After all this time, it still felt as a taboo for most and the way the young Ravenclaw talked about it, with such ease, took him off guard.
- I don’t know, he answered. I hope not to be honest. Who knows what kind of dark magic dwells inside. What could it do if unleashed ? He spoke with his heart. As brave as he was, he seriously doubted anything good could come out of that kind of business.

✯There is nothing scary about naturally talented people, hardworking people are the ones to be afraid of ✯Tracey didn't hear a reply from Augustus about what she had said about her not getting mad, but instead she got a nod from him, probably because he didn't really have anything to say, but Tracey didn't mention it, since she didn't want to seem rude or nosy. The next thing she had said was about the rivalry between the two houses, which her mother and father were a part of. She wasn't sure if she had told Augustus about her parents being in those two houses, but decided not to say anything about it. Also, probably in the near future, who knows, Tracey could develop a crush on a Slytherin boy, and she wouldn't be ashamed for it either. She let her thoughts wander a little bit, until they returned to the thought about somehow opening the Chamber of Secrets, this was then when she looked back at the boy and noticed his expression. She had just realized she had took him off guard, most likely, since she had mentioned the Chamber normally, like as if it was a normal thing to say. But then again, she is a half-blood, so while she does know a lot about both wizarding and muggle world, she forgot it's not normal to mention the Chamber of Secrets, unless you're talking to a Slytherin. She heard Augustus answer and then she said,
"Guess your right. I don't want to get sent home, but isn't the monster dead? My mother told me that the monster had died and that Harry Potter had killed it. D'you know how he did?"
Tracey was a little too curious about the matter, and hopefully didn't overwhelm Augustus with her questions, that'd be bad if she did, since she wouldn't have him as her friend, which'll make her sad, cause she needs more friends that aren't in Ravenclaw.
