Augustus sat back and brought his attention upon Minnie, as he was getting ready to receive all that precious information she had been teasing him about. Unsure of herself, she clearly showed signs of nervousness. Augustus tried to make her feel as comfortable as possible, through warm smiles and words of affirmation.

- I’m sure they won’t be !, he instantly answered as Minnie mentioned the facts might be boring.

She then continued by revealing that Hogwarts had been founded in the tenth century, making it more than a thousand years old. Augustus tried his best to fake a fascinated reaction. As a matter of fact, he had always been very much into History, especially the Muggle’s one. But as soon as he received his letter and got his school supplies, Augustus had plunged into reading Hogwarts, A History, and had now reached almost half of the voluminous work. So he actually knew that fact. But lost in Minnie’s bright eyes, he didn’t find the courage to tell her. So he promptly shook his head in a scripted disbelief. Luckily for him, she quickly pursued with another fact, sparing him from having to lie furthermore. This time, she told him about a certain Barry Wee Willie Winkle, who had supposedly lived until 755 years old. That was something the young boy didn’t know and he was truly surprised. He had so many questions.

- 755 years old ?!, he exclaimed. How is that even possible ? Did he use magic ? And 30 million people ? How does one celebrate with so many ? Like, where do you even fit so much people ? The questions were bursting through his mind but he chose to keep it to these fews.

And then she finished with her last fact, concerning the power behind the killing curse. This specific fact, Augustus didn’t know, but he wasn’t so surprised. It made sense to him that a spell able to suck away the life from living things was the most powerful one to exist. He was surprised though, to learn that the protection charm was a close second.

- I didn’t know, but I can’t say I’m so surprised about that, he added with a contemplative look on his face. I had no idea Protego was close though ? Do you know why ?

Minnie saw his surprised expressions as she told her facts, and his slightly concerned face at her last one. "Um...I'm not sure. I think he might have used a philosopher's stone, a stone that makes you live forever, or by a magical spell or by...um...I'm not supposed to know." She finished nervously, not sure how to tell him while her head thought about how entrancing his eyes were. She shook off the thought and tried to remember all of her facts.

It is true that I'm not supposed to know another way to become immortal. But my dad talks about work when he thinks I'm upstairs reading and...I don't need to tell Augustus. He's too nice. And cute. Minnie shut down the last thought. That was not going to happen. Even if he was really nice.

"I think Protego is such a good spell because it blocks so many other spells." She informed him, changing the subject. The only curses it can't block are...the...Unforgivable Curses. But other than that, if you're a really powerful wizard you can use Protego to protect yourself from curses." She gave a dazzling smile that wasn't real to him, her insides still wriggling from the thought of what she wasn't supposed to know. Horcruxes. My da was talking about how they found a book on how to make Horcruxes and had to destroy it. They sound...terrible. Augustus doesn't need to know. She decided.

"Oh, and I think that Barry Winkle used magic to make his house a lot larger than it looked. And I honestly have no idea how he invited that many people. A large wizard wide message maybe? I'm not sure. But it's pretty cool. He was a pretty old guy that Winkle." She smiled at her joke, trying to move on from her slip of nearly telling Augustus about what a Horcrux was. Now was the time to learn about each other, not strange things. And she was going to make sure it stayed that way.

Augustus was avidly listening to Minnie’s answers to his question. He had in fact heard about the philosopher’s stone and its magical proprieties, but he always thought it a myth. To him, eternal life seemed absurd and, even if possible, by some very powerful magic, he never understood its attraction. One lifetime seemed more than enough for the young wizard. Then again, it might’ve been that his his effervescent youth biased him. As he was quietly nodding at the elaborate answers Minnie was giving, he couldn’t help himself but frown as she mentioned her theories about Barry Winkle oddly long life. Especially when she abruptly ended her speech by mentioning she wasn’t supposed to know. Almost instantly, Augustus was struck with curiosity. She didn’t say that she didn’t know. She said she wasn’t supposed to know, revealing that she, as a matter of fact, knew something. And by the looks of it, it was pretty serious, as he looked at Minnie’s face. Despite her efforts, he could feel her uneasiness. Then, a fight between his benevolent nature and his curious nature started. He was new to Hogwarts and didn’t know anyone else but Minnie for now. It might not be ideal to push her away by asking indiscreet questions. After all, she had offered him some delicious pastries and they were definitely on the way to become good friends. However, Augustus felt restless. Why did she have to tease him like that ? His thoughts were now consumed by the need to find out more.

As she quickly changed subjects, the boy tried his best to refocus his attention on the present moment. But behind his curious and inviting smile, his mind was torturing him.

- Even with magic, 30 million seems so much …, he ended up muttering under his breath. That particular fact fascinated him enough for him to forget an instant about the previous slip Minnie had. I mean that’s more than half of all England’s population ! Can you imagine ?, he blurted out. His mind couldn’t get around the idea of so many people celebrating at once. The mess afterwards must’ve been legendary.

As he finished expressing his mind on the matter, he scrutinized his interlocutor. By all means, Minnie was a very pretty girl, with her short blond hair to her shoulders. Her yellow summer dress really highlighted her pale skin. That skin however, was still a bit red from her earlier comments about the magical means to attain eternal life.

- Uh …, he whispered, not sure about how he was to bring the subject back again. In the end, he decided to go straight to the point, as he always did. Earlier, when you were telling me about your theories on old Barry’s astonishingly long life, you mentioned something. Something you weren’t supposed to know ? I have to admit you have quite teased my curiosity, he continued with a sincere smile. What was that about ?

Minnie silently cursed. Fudge Flies! He noticed. Should I tell him? I guess I could...maybe. She nervously bit her lip. "Well...are you sure...um..." She trailed off, not wanting to have him know. But she did lead him on...

"He might have been so old by a Horcrux, but I doubt it as he seemed to be nice. Since I know you're going to ask what a Horcrux is...it's a...a piece of your soul. It's implanted in an object, a cup per chance. It...it's horrible. And evil. And just...don't make me talk about it anymore." She sighed, not happy with what she'd said.

Why did I tell him? Is it because he's so cute? I should admit to myself that he is really cute and nice. And that I have a crush on him. The realization came. I wonder how he feels about me. She thought as she looked as his sleek black hair which was really handsome. She shook her head, scattering her thoughts. Now was not the time to think about him. "So...imagine if you got 3 million people to have a party! That would be cool wouldn't it?" She asked, changing the subject to distract him from Horcuxes.

As Minnie proceeded to elaborate on what she supposedly wasn’t supposed to know, Augustus’s face sunk from a bright smile to pensive hard expression. He, in fact, wasn’t ready for what she revealed. Even if they were only talking about it, the young boy felt the evil nature of the procedure throughout his body. Just the idea of fragmenting one’s soul into objects sent a shiver down his spine. Even Minnie was clearly uneasy as she pursued on how evil such magic was. He still had questions about it, but he decided to choose restraint this time. The poor girl seemed clearly tortured and she verbally expressed her disdain at the idea of elaborating on such a dark subject. This time, the curiosity within Augustus was of a more sober nature and gladly let it go when Minnie came back to good old Barry’s adventures.

- It definitely would be something, he managed to articulate as she talked about the legendary birthday party. Shaking his head, he slid the previous facts in the back of his head, trying hard to concentrate on the current moment. I mean, I don’t even know if I would enjoy it to be honest, he pursued. I think I would feel overwhelmed at some point ? Mind you, I do enjoy good company and great parties, he blurted out with a laugh. But 30 million people ? It would take me a week just to greet them all ! And can you imagine the small talk ?, he let out with a sigh.

As he retrieved his good mood, he once again directed his attention at the scenery outside the window. The train was going through magnificent fields of green. As the time passed, they were growing closer and closer to Hogwarts and the great company of Minnie almost made him forget about that. He felt a noose tightening around his neck as he thought about the Sorting Ceremony once again.

- We are getting closer, he let out, without even thinking about it. I have to admit I’m very nervous, he added as he laughed nervously.

Minnie breathed a sigh of relief at the change of subject. Augustus obviously noticed her discomfort at the subject. "I don't think you really need to be nervous. You'll most likely fit in your house and...you'll have a friend in me, regardless of whether I'm in your house or not." She finished, her face flaming. He really is super cute. I wonder how he feels about me? Probably not like I feel about him. I just met him after all! But friends on the train ride can be friends forever. I know that.

Minnie looked out the window and saw that they were in fact getting quite close to Hogwarts. At least, that's what she assumed. "Do you have any pets?" She asked, looking at a hidden basket that held a cute ferret. "I have a ferret. I know we're only supposed to get owls, cats, or toads, but she really called to me. Her name is Lightning." She slipped her hand into the basket and brought out Lighting to show him.

Lightning softly squeaked and nuzzled her hand, then saw Augustus and shrunk back, not liking strangers. "She's a bit nervous about meeting new people, but she really is sweet." Minnie smiled at her and petted the ferret. Then she looked up at Augustus, her heart jumping with the crush she had. Wow he really is so cute. But what does he think about me?

Augustus felt relief overtake him at the kind words of Minnie. She found the right words to reassure him. He would, in fact, fit in no matter his house, or at least he tried to convince himself that he would. At the mention of her vow of friendship, Augustus couldn’t help himself but smile and giggle. It did feel good to start his adventure like this. No matter what would happen at Hogwarts, he was now confident in the sincerity of Minnie. He knew he would have a friend in her and that somehow made feel a lot better. For a moment there, he lost himself in her bright and kind eyes.

She is so pretty, he found himself thinking. I wonder if she …

Suddenly, he felt his face redden. He quickly brushed out any “weird” thought he had. Minnie was his friend and he knew her for what now ? A couple hours at best. Furthermore, she was probably just being friendly with everyone. For a moment there he felt embarrassed that he thought there could be more. Luckily, his state of mind quickly changed as Minnie brought up her pet ferret and presented it to Augustus. With a clear expression of surprise, a stunned smile drew itself across his face.

- Oh my god ! It’s so cute !, he bursted out, without thinking about it. In fact, Augustus had no pets for the moment being, but he always loved all cute little creatures. Hello Lightning, he whispered to the ferret, as he approached his hand. The leery little thing snuggled back to it’s mother arms. The young wizard quickly bolted back, not trying to scare the ferret anymore. It’s so cute ! I’m jealous. I don’t have any pets of my own … my mom never let me have one. But now that I’m in Hogwarts, I might !, he pursued, as a mischievous smile appeared on the corner of his mouth. Maybe a cat or an owl !

"I would love to help you pick out your pet!" Minnie told Augustus, happy that they had changed subjects. "I would really love to hang out with you." She added. Then she blushed hard. Cockroach Clusters! Why did I say that? I really hate my mouth. She looked away before he could notice her red cheeks.

Wow...he really seems so nice and kind and cute... She thought again against her will. I really do like him. But nope. She shook her head to shake the thoughts away, wanting to stop thinking about it. Think about...how much you're looking forward to the food! Minnie decided to think about that.

"So...what food do you think will be there for the feast?" As a pureblood, she knew all about the feast, but had never gotten the complete details for the food, so was quite curious. "I know there will be lots, but do you think there might be...Turkish delight? It's one of my favorites, so I hope they do." She smiled as she thought of the food she might be eating soon. As a reminder, her stomach grumbled loudly, unhappy with the lack of food she'd eaten. She blushed again, this time because of her stomach. "Sorry, I guess I'm hungry."
