Sere blinked. Whoa! Did I say something wrong? She asked herself when she saw Esme's expression which... uh... could be described as a hopeless grin. "Do you have zero ambition for academic things?" She asked that frankly.
Sere heard Esme's reaction about her hyperbolic parable. Oh wait! "How dare youuu!" Sere let out a laugh eventually. Her first laugh since coming to Hogwarts. It wasn't about Esme's joke, but her humorous behaviour followed the mocking joke made Sere unable to hold her serious expression. I guess she is a typical who has that random side inside her.
"I don't know the exact reason, but since about two years ago I started to have a desire to be a protector for other lives, and that 'life' doesn't have to be about human's, it can be about all living creatures," Sere continued, "I think magic related to 'protecting other lives' will be the thing I look forward to the most."
Sere seemed to think for a moment before responding to Esme's question regarding muggle-world technology, "Ah, do you mean phone like smartphone? Well, in the muggle-world we even attach the word 'smart' to objects with the latest technology, as if to acknowledge their cleverness." Sere put her index on her chin, "Smartphone is a tool to communicating with other people. We -muggles- can send messages, pictures, even voicemails with it. Muggles don't use owls to send messages like what we do here. Actually that thing -the smartphone- doesn't just work for communication, we can also play games, study, and--- maybe my explanation will be boring since it's already too long. I will show it to you directly if we have the opportunity. I have my own smartphone at home, but I don't use it all the time. I only use it to search some academical informations."
Sere looked enthusiastic, "Do you have an interest in the non magical world? Maybe you love muggle studies as well as you love history? I mean, I'm sure you read a lot about muggle in the history books. How is it?"

Esme smirked. " 'course I do, why would I?" Sere was engaging, very fun to talk to because she simply understood Esme, and Esme understood her. It all just clicks.
"So defensive magic then? I think you should join the dueling club, It's pretty painful to be hit will spells, but it'll also toughen you, and it's valuable info, you know?" She said in response to Sere's statement, then she added on to it. "However, I picked a few things up from my family, before we moved, they taught me a few spells and then I read some books and I think we could practice sometime."
"Woooooooah...." She was mesmerized at the idea of having a phone, it had everything, you didn't have to feed it, it was perfect. "Perhaps you should bring it, I can't wait to see. But how can it have so much, and still be easily accessible, that's a lot of stuff in one." She thought about it, but couldn't quite wrap her head around it.

Being a duellist? Sere thinks for a moment, "I've never thought about getting into duelling before. Not until now. But hearing your explanation about spell things, I think duelling will be quite interesting and challenging. You make it sounds easier and simpler than what I used to think. I will try to find out more about duelling," Sere looked excited when getting new insights from Esme. She still has a lot to learn, but now she has friend who is willing to accompany her, at least to study together, "Yeah! We should definitely learn and practice together! I can't wait for it. Ah, speaking of sports, do you have any interest in sports? Maybe registering yourself in one of it soon?"
Seeing Esme's enthusiasm for smartphone, Sere raised her eyebrows even more enthusiastically, "We can take time to meet during the holiday! I will show you my phone. If you want to, we can also take a walk in the city!" Sere is sure that her eyes looked very sparkling now. She's never going out with a friend, and isn't sure if her parents would allow her, but she could do something called 'sneak out' from her parents, once in her lifetime. However, She wants to experience the joy of the city in the high seasons with a friend.
"I will definitely teach--No! Not teaching you, but I will show you about my world. I hope you like it, my friend." Sere smiled a little when she said the words 'my friend'.
"Do you have anything to do after breakfast?" Their conversation seemed to be coming to an end, but their friendship was also beginning, this all happened as fast as breakfast.

Esme tapped her chin as if in thought, sports? She contemplated it, but was largely unsure, probably not Quidditch, she'd rather watch it than play it, but seeing how interested Sere was in dueling, she should probably join her in that. "I'll go with you in dueling club, and we can even learn things I may not know."
"So you're alright with risking yourself for me? Thank you, I'm not sure I've met a friend who's said the same before." She then wondered what she'd have to say to get her parents to agree, perhaps if she let one of her older siblings vouch for her, if she can convince them too. "We'll have to set up a rendezvous site, so that we won't have to fret about how to meet, all in all though, I cannot wait, and I promise I'll find a way."
Esme blushed, she was proud of Sere, opening like that, it was hard for someone like herself, perhaps it's the way she was raised, or maybe it was the people she'd met, but regardless, Sere doing it so quickly just confirmed her strength, a true Gryffindor. "Teaching is okay as well, I am just as willing to listen to a lecture as I am to a friendly tour."
"I don't think so, and I assume by that question you don't either? Perhaps we could meet up again in a bit, however long you'd want, I honestly am ready at any point."

"You will?" Sere looked happy. "We have to watch the duelling match together then! Someday we will be in that place, I hope." Sere added, but then being a little hesitant, "I don't mind watching other sports too. I think the Fall Competition will be held in a few weeks. Want to watch it together?"
Upon hearing Esme's agreement regarding their holiday meeting, Sere immediately replies, "Let's find a way later! Having secret little rendezvous sounds so interesting to me."
Sere realized that she had forgotten her thoughts of 'planning what she would do for a day' because of this good conversation. The girl mutters, seems to think about what she is going to do. "I think I'll go back to my dorm after this to read some books I've borrowed from the library. I'm not planning anything special today." Sere continued inside, but something special -the start of a friendship- is already come without my planning today.
Sere once again said, "I'm serious about watching sports together. If you want to, we can arrange a meeting. I'll send you an owl. We can watch... and learn together from the match, maybe?" Actually, Sere just wants to meet and watch the sports competition with Esme Xiao, but she's still intend to stick to her ambitious, serious, and studious character for a little longer.
"Let's walk out from this hall together! And I think this will be our temporary goodbye." Sere smiled slightly, closing the conversation by saying, "That was a short but very pleasant conversation. Thank you, Esme." All the talks with her new friend is absolutely make her day.

“I quite enjoyed meeting you, Sere, and I would love to look at the sports events. Usually I would not go, however I think you’ll make it more fun.”
She rocks in her seat, she was basically done with her food and was ready to officially start her day, “Reading some books sounds nice, I think I’ll read the ones I already have, I got enough to hold me over until next month, I think they’re all pretty good picks.”
“Learn something we will, I think the best way I learn is to see things before I attempt them, and I assume you are the same.” She nods her head slowly “Sounds like a plan”
She rises from her seat, brushing off her shirt and stretching her previously crumpled body. Letting out a nearly silent yawn and curls her hair and smiles. “No, thank you. Once again, meeting you is a pleasure, and I look forward to seeing you at a dueling match. Then I’ll challenge you soon after, you’d probably beat me.” She giggles. “Have a good day, since I’m guessing we’ll both disappear in this huge castle until it is surprisingly convenient. She hoped Sere would turn up, she lost people in this castle often.
