A New Friend
I could have said anything else. Anything. But of course I chose to be awkward as always. Maya looked downright bewildered and confused by their little, strange monologue. They's known as soon as they'd begun that ramble that it would end weirdly and that they would regret it forever.
Eventually, Maya appeared to take it in and replied, "No, of course not." Well at least someone here isn't completely weird. How could they be so nice about it though? "I don't think I've seen you around school... Probably at the sorting ceremony once, but other that that, I don't think so." Leaf looked so nervous for some reason, even knowing their reply wasn't going to be worth that kind of reaction.
"And don't worry, I haven't been stalking you either!" They added it on quickly just to clarify something that really didn't need clarifying. Really. Now I'll definitely be awake very late tonight reminding myself of how bad I am at interacting with people correctly.
Leaf relaxed when Maya smiled. Maybe their effort when it came to hugging was questionable, but they certainly could cheer Leaf up when they felt like suffocating themselves in their pillow. It didn't take a lot for them to feel that way.
Looking up, they could see dark clouds drawing near. Rain! This day couldn't get much better. As if completely forgetting how embarrassed they had been just moments before, they smiled and watched the clouds darkening.
"I hope you like rain!" Leaf didn't mean to make it sound so happy- but they couldn't hide it.
