You Punch Like a Girl

"That's the plan!" Opeila grinned. "To be honest, I feel we might have some kind of big showdown between that guy and the guy he stole from. He did not like having... the stuff he stole taken back by the original owner?" The Slytherin shook her head in confusion. Sometime she just didn't understand people...
Opeila was more and more convinced that- despite the occasional distractions- it had been an awesome idea to ask Aaron to teach her. Obviously he knew what he was doing and while she wasn't sure yet how this would be any use to her when the blonde guy bound her with a spell again... well, she'd solve that issue when she got there. "So basically make him kick his own ass... kind of.", she would comment on Aaron's suggestion to show her how to use his momentum against him, "I like it."
The short phase of training had ended abruptly when Opeila didn't dodge quickly enough, but it didn't bother her. Unlike Aaron it seemed. In fact, Opeila pressed the back of her hand against her mouth to try to stop herself from giggling. "It's fine! I'm sure that must have looked hilarious from a distance."
The giggling ceased when she let Aaron turn her face to look at the spot where he hit her. "I'm fine, really.", she would assure, but not step away. Not break the contact.
Instead she would turn her head to face him completely again, her gaze automatically moving to his lips. Public. They were in public! ... Who cared.
... Apparently Aaron cared, as only his thumb brushed over her cheek before he let go. Opeila wasn't disappointed- not really. Not much. ... Alright, maybe a little. But this was what she got for moving the training session into a public area. More training and less kissing. That had been the point of all of this, right?
Only that Aaron seemed to change his mind about that when Opeila asked him to the ball. The response came so quickly, for a second she wasn't sure if she misheard. But she hadn't. The smile seemed to break out of her without permission when he closed the distance between them again, tucked her hair behind her ear. Was he going to kiss her despite being in public? Sure looked like it. Opeila was already stretching to meet him halfway, when he pulled his hand away and stepped back so quickly as if he got burned.
For a second, the Slytherin's heart sank. Had she misjudged the situation so badly? Had it never been his intention to kiss her in public and he got startled by her attempt to do just that?
But when she followed his gaze, she saw the girl too who had approached them unnoticed. Relief flooded through her and did not go away even when she realized who this girl was. While Aaron and her had kept their own situation a secret in public, she had kept an eye on him. She had seen him with this girl before in public.
And obviously the girl had not known about Opeila, evident by the tears in her eyes.
Opeila had never tried to steal a partner from someone, hell, she wasn't even good enough of a flirt to try, and she had never enjoyed hurting other people.
So why did this girl's tears feel so... reassuring?
Opeila would not say anything, when the girl addressed Aaron, she would only watch, suddenly a bit disgusted by the odd satisfaction it gave her.

"What's that?" Aaron asked when Akari muttered something, the forced smile on his lips faltering a bit after realizing the horror written on the Gryffindor girl's face. Clearly she'd seen something, but in truth nothing had happened. And it certainly wasn't good to let her go off thinking something had happened. Who knows what Akari's mind would spin this into, and he imagined Opeila still wouldn't want people knowing what they'd been up to in the past, even if she was okay with going a bit more public in the future. Best to shut it down.
"Akari-" Aaron realized pretty quickly that this wasn't going to be a straightforward conversation since she had clearly worked herself up so much. As she turned and spoke about leaving, Aaron had to hold in an exasperated groan. Why now? His brown eyes turned back to Opeila, looking at her apologetically.
"Well, that was poor timing... I'll just go make sure she, uh, doesn't get the wrong idea, I guess? Sorry," he said softly, feeling really bad that the moment had been semi-ruined by the Gryffindor girl's appearance. "I'll be back, if you want to wait? You could practice with the tree, I should only be a few minutes," Aaron said, waiting until Opeila confirmed she'd wait. When she did, he offered her a small smile before turning away and jogging after Akari.
The Gryffindor hadn't gotten far, but definitely far enough to be out of Opeila's earshot. What was she even doing there? Looking for him? Spying? He was admittedly more annoyed than anything else in that moment, which was probably not the right emotion to have, but- but he had told her he didn't want a girlfriend! What was she so upset about? Aaron calling Akari's name wasn't stopping her, so once he was within touching distance, he gently grabbed her wrist to bring her to a halt. It felt like the only way he could get her to acknowledge him and stop running off. Aaron released her immediately though.
"Seriously, Akari, what's the matter? It feels like you're getting worked up over nothing," Aaron said, holding back the desire to immediately jump on the offensive with how annoyed he was feeling. Just try to calm her down. "We're just over here training," he gestured to the training mitts, still wearing one and holding the other, "And then you show up unexplainably upset? What's the problem?"
