The Hand That Pulled Her Up

Delilah, still savoring the remnants of the chocolate frog, considered Kim's questions about food preferences. She chuckled, playfully elbowing him. "Favorites, though? oh boy, where do I even start? Hmm, I'm a sucker for anything chocolatey, and peanut butter is practically its soulmate. But you know, surprise me! I'm up for anything that contains sugar !"
As Kim mentioned the various clubs he ran, Delilah's eyes glazed over a bit. The mention of the Tri-Cook Club and the Drama Club sounded intriguing, but she wasn't really interested in anything. Because of that, Delilah believed she was pretty boring, a hobbiless uninterested boring person, well she had her guitar but she wasn't really that good at it either. Some kids were good at arts, some at Math and science, some were better at sporty thing. Del,well...she wasn't good at anything.
"Hmm, clubs, you say?" she mused, propping herself up on her elbows. "I appreciate the offer, but I've got my own exclusive club going on in my headโit's called the 'Daydreaming and Lazy Sleeping Club.' DLS for short." She smirked, half expecting Kim to chuckle at her jest. People always laughed at her jokes, some politely chuckled but most genuinely laughed out loud.
When He asked about her first chocolate frog . She couldn't help but laugh at the memory. "Oh, my first chocolate frog was a wild experience. I was about five, and my sister brought one back from Hogwarts. She never warned me it could jump, and when it did, I nearly jumped out of my skin! Scared me to bits!"
She chuckled a bit more.
But her excitement took a dip when Kim tossed the marshmallow biscuit at her and made a "catch" motion. Her eyes narrowed, and a shadow crossed her features. The playful expression she had worn faded as Kim's words triggered memories long buried in the recesses of her mind.
"Catch?" Delilah's brows furrowed, and a tense silence hung in the air. The playful banter transformed into a stark reminder of childhood pain. Her gaze hardened, revealing the vulnerability behind the frustration. She remembered. Kids all around her.
They tossed sticks and toys at her, demanding she fetch like a loyal pet. Their laughter had sliced through the air, each giggle a dagger that pierced the bubble of her childhood naivety.
The memory stung, each incident carving its mark into her very soul. Objects thrown, commands given, and Delilah, too young to comprehend the cruelty, had played along, not understanding why the laughter felt like a mockery.
"I'm not a dog," she muttered, her voice a mixture of defiance and hurt. In her hand, the marshmallow biscuit crumbled, the physical manifestation of her internal turmoil. She held onto the remnants, her fingers tightly clenched around the fragments.
Delilah's eyes remained fixed on Kim, a silent plea for understanding. The hurt lingered, a vulnerable vulnerability that she hadn't expected to expose. She didn't quite discern what he said next, she let the crumbles fall onto the grass, the pieces scattering like shattered fragments of trust.
Slowly, quietly, she got up and without uttering a word, Delilah turned on her heel and walked away, her steps carrying the weight of unresolved pain. The grass seemed to bow slightly under her, as if empathizing with the emotions that lingered in the air. The unexpected reminder of what she seemed, hoped to forget had reopened old wounds.
While it may have appeared insignificant, it stirred emotions within her that she couldn't easily dismiss.
She walked in moon Dust, and Stars were sprinkled in her Hair...

| โโโ | Delilah's preferences were great for him.
Chocolate and peanut butter were a heavenly combination. Kim thought many people tended to like it. Even Kim thought it was rather delicious. But as the Prince of Sweets, how could he not like something that went so well together? The thirteen year old could tell Delilah's interest in his words was drifting away from him. Therefore, instead of continuing to talk about his clubs, Kim decided to leave it where it was. If she was really interested in finding out more, she could always stop by and ask questions. He didn't tend to talk much in the first place, unless it was about something he was really into. Like his clubs or the ones he co-ran. And even then, if he sensed the people talking to him weren't interested, he'd stop talking about it. Delilah's response about her own club made him raise a brow in her direction. "Mm. It sounds like a club I'd probably end up joining later on." He murmured, half-serious and half-joking about this. These days, he really could use a club where he didn't have to do or think about anything and could just relax and enjoy being alive. As Delilah spoke about her first chocolate frog experience, Kim's lips twitched, close to smiling. But not quite there. He didn't tend to smile often these days. Back in the past he never used to smile at all after a certain point. Even when he came to Hogwarts he didn't smile much. But then Sophia... Kim shook his head, trying to banish his thoughts. It was in the past, he had to move on. Distracted as Delilah echoed his last word back at him, Kim looked over at her again. Catch? Ah, right. What he'd said to her earlier. The pink haired teen let his blue eyes flicker over her for a moment or two. There was something a little off about her expression now. Did it have to do with the word he'd used before? Why had she repeated it in such a manner like that? The girl's next words about how she wasn't a dog made Kim's brow furrow and he regarded her for a moment. She must have had bad memories associated with the word and something about dogs. Before he could say anything in response, Delilah stood and started to walk off, away from him. Kim watched as she slowly left the area and a sigh escaped his lips. Hopefully, she would be alright soon. However, it was hard to guess how people would feel later on if you didn't know them well. But one thing was for certain, Kim knew. He'd see her again. Hopefully when that time came, she'd be in a better mood and he could apologize for using a trigger word with her. For now, the pink haired teen leaned back and stared up at the sky above him. |
