Madison spoke so passionately about flying. She seemed to know quite a lot about it, almost sounding like an expert, and he caught himself becoming carried away by the thought of sitting on a broom for the first time and hover above the ground.
He was pleased to hear that Madison accepted his offer to hang out. After all, she had not made so many friends just yet. But then Zach and Cassian crossed his mind. His bunkbed buddies whom he had only just begun getting to know. Was he letting them down for running off with Madison after school? Maybe they were making plans in the Great Hall as Simon and Madison left. Making friends was difficult. He almost wished he could split himself into two, being at two places at once. But he came to the conclusion that hanging out with Madison was probably not going to threaten his friendship with Zach and Cassian altogether. Besides – he really enjoyed her company.
"Take it", she said, offering him the other half of her bun. "I took a few from the breakfast table this morning, so don't worry about it. Plus, I saw that you were quite enjoying those when I walked into the Great Hall this morning too."
He felt like he had no other option but to accept it.
"Thanks", he said. Madison surely did not miss a thing and when he thought about it; perhaps it was not so bad to have a friend who was able to read him. After all – there was nothing like cementing a friendship as by sharing a vanilla bun.
