Haven’t We Been Here Before?

Mikael's brows furrowed slightly as Valentin spoke to him. Spoken so plainly and yet he still struggled to find any true understanding to it. How badly he wished he could understand it. Knowledge brimming full with the complex undertones of hidden meanings and unspoken words that now hung between them like spider webs. Weaving their existence together. Caught they were in a web that not even themselves seemed to comprehend. Mikael swallowed weakly shaking like a leaf as the cold began to get to him. However, the cold did not deter him from staring at the white-haired boy with a mixed expression of confusion and awe. Far too accustomed to the cold winters of his home.
Brows furrowing slightly, it seemed so easy to just stop drowning. To bring his head up out of the water, into a world of clear understanding. The boy swallowed thickly, and it occurred to him how much his throat ached from the lake water. Mikael's breath caught in his throat as Valentin grabbed onto his arm. It seemed so strange that Valentin would want to care for him in such a way. Had it not been only Yefim who latched upon him. Forced him to be apart of something in his apathetic state of being. How badly he missed Yefim. How much he missed the knowledge that he was tethered to someone. By god's, how much he craved it. A blanket of safety that had been robbed from him in the middle of the night. His throat tightened slightly as he remembered his last goodbyes to the dark-haired boy he had known all his life. Powerless as he watched the only good thing grow further and further away. Mikael swallowed his gaze focusing back onto the white-haired boy. It all seemed so easy the way Valentin laid it out. If only it was that easy to cast off one's past demons. If only they would stay gone. As the boy pulled him upwards, he would nod shallowly. Not fighting the other as he was spirited away.
