What was originally perceived as a welcome change turned out to be a disappointment for Maverick. The meteor shower was not as beautiful as what he had imagined before, and not as clear either. This might still be tolerable if only someone had conversed with him, but no one did tonight. He felt that the two other present pupils had practically ignored him, or maybe they truly had, goodness knows which was true.

For the Gryffindor preteen, what happened tonight felt very much like watching a very boring film alone, something he had experienced first-hand. On his last Christmas holiday before heading to Hogwarts, ten-year-old Maverick was spending three days and two nights at Uncle Francesco's country house. The uncle was napping after a trip to the supermarket for some fireworks and daily necessities, and his nephew decided to turn on the television.

On TV was It's a Wonderful Life, a film he had heard about being a superb Christmas must-watch. But after only twenty minutes or so, Maverick felt so bored he turned the Muggle invention off. It's such an overrated film, he said to himself inwardly.

The feeling was repeated tonight, with the not-so-lovely spectacle and no friend beside him. Tired and disappointed, the first year left the Astronomy Tower and headed for his bed.
