Duvessa took the criticism silently, but clearly made a note of the advice as she did the wand movement again—this time perfectly and without hesitation. Ruby gave a short nod of approval—still unsmiling, but it was validation nonetheless. Maybe Ruby’s stern words of caution had done something to help, because when they moved onto the Mending Charm, Duvessa did the movement quickly and without much trouble at all. She would offer the younger girl the benefit of the doubt—it was the end of a long day, after classes, and near the end of the school week. Perhaps she was just tired or was just warming up with the first attempt of the Dancing Feet Spell. Nevertheless, it wasn’t an excuse to underperform. There would be allowance for the previous mistake, but she would expect better as they progressed. At least the movement for the Mending Charm was fine.

“Good. Now let’s move onto the real thing.” She reached into her bag and pulled out some parchment and a wooden-jointed mannequin that she tended to use as a reference for drawing. Setting both items on the desk, she lifted her wand and, with a precise slashing motion, wordlessly cast the Severing Charm, tearing the parchment into several pieces. She looked at Duvessa and tapped the mannequin. “You will cast the Dancing Feet Spell on this, and then once you succeed, cast the Mending Charm on the parchment,” Ruby instructed. She then leaned back in her chair, watching expectantly. The spells were easy, basic, and with practice of the wand movements out of the way, the casting should go smoothly.

It was stressful doing these spells in front of observant eyes that took everything in. Ruby watched as Duvessa did her last spell, thankfully not failing too badly. But she couldn't help being slightly relieved when the practice was other, much as she liked studying. And to be honest, Ruby was clever. She probably could learn more from her.

Duvessa listened to what Ruby was saying
“Good. Now let’s move onto the real thing.” The real thing. In front of her. After not practising alone enough. The Slytherin just needed to concentrate, and move her wand correctly with no hesitation, after a long day of classes and saying the incantation correctly. Pretty simple when worded like that. She withdrew her wand and prepared it just as Ruby took a wooden-jointed mannequin out of her bag and a piece of parchment. With a quick movement, Ruby cast the Severing spell on the paper and ripping it in half. Now she had to mend that.

She listened to Ruby when she finished, and put her wand out.
"Tarantallegra." She cast the spell on the figure, moving quickly to try and say everything properly. Magic worked. Duvessa gave an inaudible gasp to herself as the spell had actually worked. It was said correctly.
