Panic in the Lake
Japanese ~ EnglishReducio
Word Count: 301 Mention: @Jack Burnett as Ginyami, @Kim Sato as Hiro Date: April 16th 2023"Midorimori-san!" Chiaki heard the voice of her upperclassman from somewhere below in the ship, and felt compelled to head back down where the others seemed to be. Her feet pushed aside the water as she hurried down to where the voice had come from, tripping a little over the final step and grabbing to the boy's arm to stop herself."Are you alright? And no, I haven't seen Hiro, maybe he made it off the ship already?"
She could only hope that was the truth- she would hate to lose any of her friends. But she presumed Hiro would persevere and make it out, but others she wasn't as sure.
"I am going to see if everyone else is off the ship. I would get to shore as fast as you can, and if I see Hiro I will tell him you were searching for him."
Chiaki was beginning to panic even more now, as the water continued to rise, faster and faster. It didn't take long for it to reach her knees, and she suspected that it may be even faster until the water would reach her waist. But she willed herself to keep pushing further on in the ship- she didn't know who else may need help.
It didn't take long for her to spot Hiro, seemingly doing the same job she had been, at the other end of the corridor.
"Hiro!" She called to him, wading her way over as best she could. Midorimori-san was looking for you, I told him to go and that I'd send you to him if I saw you. Are you alright?"
Spotting his damp hair, it didn't take long for Chiaki to ask her next question. "Have you made it to the surface already? Are people coming to help?"ReducioStats:

Panic in the Lake
Japanese and English
Sara may have been a bit..slow on noticing things, but even he wasn’t able to ignore the gravity of the situation. Ship was sinking, people were screaming, of course it instilled fear in the boy. What of the others? All the awful stories of ships sinking, will they be the next victims? Sara had to push himself to shake away the fear, and only then did he have enough courage to push open the door, at this point not minding the water that reached up near his knees.
Thankfully, it wouldn’t be long until he met some of his friends. “ Hiro! Chiaki! “ he trudged through the waters to get to them, relief flooding his usually intimidating features. “ You all are..good. “ It took a lot for him to not hover around them just to check their health. This was hardly the time for a nice reunion. Though he did notice Hiro had been way more drenched than both him and Chiaki. It's likely she was right about him coming back. That’s dangerous! URdsfhhh Sara’s head was about to explode from worry. But at least he was okay! “ Is there anyone else that’s missing? Should we split up? I- I think I can help “ He was terribly lost on what to do. It was a bit shameful really, shouldn't be the one helping them without being so uncertain? He was one of the older students. Alas, no one had ever really taught him how to escape a drowning ship! Worry creased his features, making him look ready to plummet any windows and doors if given the chance.

Panic in the Lake
she stopped yelling as the hesrd something. Yup, she recognized the voice. She yelled his name again until she heard him get closer. "I cant find my wand and the door is locked!"" her voice was shaky, but now it was only time to act. "hold on!" coraline stopped banging on the door and heard the spell and the door click.
Coraline stumbled forward as the water rushed out, thanking hiro for helping her keep her balance. As the water rushed out, she spotted her wand and quickly grabbed it. "grab your things" Coraline quickly nodded, and tucked her wand into her wand bag (I don't know what it's called lmao) and grabbed her trunk. She trudged to her window and quickly turned around. "wait, what about you how are you gonna get out?" Hiro just pointed to the window. He must have been helping other people.
Left with no choice, coraline pushed herself out the window and into the water.
Her dress was not the most ideal swimming material, in fact it slowed her down. But she propelled herself up, dragging her bag, feeling her lungs pounding and screaming for air.
Her arms and legs were heavy, the surface couldn't be close enough.
She broke the surface and took great, heavy, breaths. She rested her arms on her luggage and looked at the surface. Why was everyone just watching ? She kicked her legs and dragged herself up to the shore. "why are you all just standing there ? Where is everybody? Whats going on?" she looked around and saw a boy laying on the ground with a girl next to him . Her heart plummeted.
She turned back to the lake and stood there, debating going back or staying. Everything was just a mess.

Tone was glad he'd returned to the submerged ship because it seemed as if most of them were still there. It made sense, many probably had been relaxing inside their rooms, unlike him. Tone had always been rather active and energetic, he didn't like staying in one place for long periods of time. Chiaki was the first one he saw, she looked as if she was doing the same thing as him. That was helpful, his strength was starting to get depleted from having to break down two doors already. When Chiaki told him Yami had been looking for him, Tone chewed on his bottom lip. "He went up, right?" Tone asked her, hoping for an affirmative... "Don't tell me he's still down here looking for me?" That would be undesirable, as it meant they would then have to go look for him too. "Yeah, I went up to see if anyone made it to the top yet or not. I found Cristo passed out on the surface and me and Win dragged him over to the shore. She's looking after him and I spotted Valentine hovering over the water on a broom. Someone used the Red Sparks Charm earlier, but I didn't see who it was at the time." He said... Taking a breath, Tone continued a few seconds later. "But since I didn't see anyone else up top, I think it must have been Cristo." "I'm pretty sure someone should have seen the red sparks, so adults should be coming soon to help us out if we don't all get out of the water before then." Tone reassured Chiaki. Ah, there was someone else he knew! As Sara approached, the duo-toned teen flung his arms around Sara's midsection and hugged him, glad to see he was fine. "Sara!!!! You're fine!!!!" Tone exclaimed and told them about who he'd already seen or saved from the submerged ship over the past few minutes. Or had it been longer now??? Time wasn't something he was keeping track of at the moment. There were more important things to do. Tone shook his head when Sara asked if they should split up and said he could help them. "I think we should stick together, that way if we come across an obstacle we can figure out a solution together. Plus, I'm kind of drained of strength right now. I already forced open two doors. So I could use your physical strength if we have to do it again!" Tone said and looked over at Chiaki.... "Shall we head out and see if anyone else is down here before the water level gets too hard to handle?" Tone inquired as he waited to see what the other two thought of the plan. |

Panic in the Lake
Japanese and English
"Sara!!!! You're fine!!!!" he gave a curt nod, hoping it would be enough to assure his friend that he was fine. Staying silent turned out to be the right decision . With not a second to spare, Hiro filled him in on what’s going on and he listened as intently as possible. Well, as possible as he could, of course. It was difficult to focus when the water below them was starting to get higher and higher. It was a relief that some had managed to leave the boat.
"I think we should stick together, that way if we come across an obstacle we can figure out a solution together.” Hiro explained after Sara’s suggestion. “ Plus, I'm kind of drained of strength right now. I already forced open two doors. So I could use your physical strength if we have to do it again!" Say no more. By habit of receiving order, Sara gave him a quick salute. “ Understood “ He held more confidence now that he could rely on Hiro’s leadership.
The tension that had been building up in his shoulders slowly released. But wow, two doors all by himself? Sara couldn’t help but gaze at them a bit longer with narrowed eyes, out of concern. That must’ve hurt… . or at least drained a considerable amount of energy. With a resolution made up in his mind, Sara craned his neck and did quick minor arm exercises to get warmed up. He’d made sure to help out when he can with his best abilities.
"Shall we head out and see if anyone else is down here before the water level gets too hard to handle?"
Sara gave a nod in agreement. As long as someone gives him orders, he would act and contribute with his physical strength. Who knew they’d come in handy at times like this. This would be one of the rare times where Sara would be proud to put work in his body.
* Stronk Sara joined the party . Feel free to godmode him breaking stuff if needed *

Panic in the Lake
At Hogwarts, not a day went by where there was the possibility of something horrible happening out of the blue. What was worse, those horrible things happened so often they began to be perceived as a inconvenience rather than a call of alarm. There were a few here and there who adopted the mindset. Oh look, another fire. Oh my, another tragedy. Someone went and got themselves blown up again, how unfortunate. It was unfortunate, because not a single one of those things should have ever happened. Mahoutokoro's boat shouldn't have been failing to surface.
Granted, it had been a long time since any accidents had happened at the Scottish wizarding school. A bit suspicious, to be fully honest, but always nice.
So perhaps, it was time for something to go awry. Hogwarts students had months of peace. Now it was time to shake up the foundation a little bit. Raise their hackles- reintroduce them to the idea of harm lurking around every corner. Such a cruel overseeing narrator god these children had. Although Hogwarts students were not the ones to fall into fate's palm today, there was no doubt going to be some emotional collateral damage- especially if they had connections with the foreign students. And generally, no one wanted to hear some kids almost drowned on the boat that was supposed to safely assist in their delivery to Hogwarts.
Xailah was late to the lakeside event, having recently come from spectating the arrival of another school. She wasn't particularly active in these meet-and-greet things, and really only went to see what all the talk was about. She'd stay for a few minutes, overseeing interactions, before moving onto the next thing, or leave to do something else.
So you could imagine her surprise when she arrived at the bank and saw students sprawled across the grass and river rocks, all sopping wet. The parasol she carried to keep the warm spring sun off her skin was shifted from one shoulder to the other. She squinted, her eyes narrowing- not at the people this time- at the center of the lake, where a great amount of splorching and bubbles rippled across the typically tranquil surface. That was... Concerning. The lioness moved closer to the scene, a familiar surge of adrenaline seizing her heart in it's cold hand as she took everything in.
What in the absolute fuck was happening?
She wouldn't have time to ponder that, as her brain kicked into a gear that had been dormant for many months, but was anything but unfamiliar.
Not too far from where she walked, a young girl breached the surface of the lake with her luggage in tow, and collapsed onto the shore. Xailah snapped to the sudden movement, directing her attention to the small body it had come from. Although the girl was a fair distance away, she was still in close enough earshot for Xailah to discern what she spat out onto the rocky lakeshore. The words felt like a sucker punch to the gut.
Nothing truly hurt more than a child who realized that their peers were of no help. Nothing stung more than when a child rose to consciousness and asked the dreaded question of 'why' something was happening- and you knew there was no answer waiting for them. Seeing the little Mahuotokoro girl slosh onto the shore, cold and dripping with lake water, clearly defeated and emotionally bruised, hurt in a way words could not describe.
Because Xailah had been in that situation. Xailah had seen her world crumble and burn, without so much as a hint as to why. She had seen her peers stand around dumbfounded- she had seen the people who were supposed to protect them fail to do so.
And. It. Hurt.
The metamorph broke into a urgent jog as she went to meet the beached girl. The child (if she allowed, and had not stirred) would feel a hand clasp her shoulder, and see a figure kneel to her height. Xailah's voice was warm when she addressed the girl directly- eerily void of any panic or implications of urgency. The words she chose, however, definitely echoed haste. There was no time to waste, and she knew it- yet she wasn't so daft as to jump into anything blindly. That was how people got hurt, possibly killed.
She spared no time for 'are you okay', or other phrases that would have been senseless to use at this time. Directness was what she opted for. "What is happening? And be quick with your explanation." But with that said, she was already taking off her cloak and readjusting her attire; her intentions clear. "Aspira." Without waiting for a full explanation, and not so much as missing a beat, she slipped her wand from her side and brought it to her face, commanding a bubble from the sliver of chestnut.
Talking to Coraline Harvey @Reena Delgado, casting Aspira (Bubble-Head Charm) on herself; in preparation to run down and join the lake party, Baywatch-style. Move over Pamela Anderson.ReducioRace: Metamorphmagus.

Panic in the Lake

The ship was a reliable vessel intended for brief journeys from the shore of their school to the great lake in Hogwarts. The shield that protected them only needed to remain active for a short time. Hardly enough time to settle into one of the rooms on the ship before they would make their landing in the heart of the great lake. He would spend his time reading, not to say he was not excited about the prospect of returning to Hogwarts, but the familiar setting, culture and language was a tease that was almost painful. He had begged on more than one occasion to be re-enrolled in Hogwarts, but it was to no avail. Thaddeus Athanatos had insisted that with the tragedies that had transpired at Hogwarts as of late which culminated in his eldest son's death over a year ago, that Hogwarts was not safe. A funny statement coming from a man that was likely feeling guilty for the hand they both knew he played in his own son's death. No, Thaddeus did not smother the boy in his sleep or even inflict the dark curse that had eaten away at the youth like some terrible cancer, but he knew that they were there. How could he not, he shared in Vladimir's "gift" of legillimacy, he could hear those hidden thoughts that nobody had. There was nothing that truly happened without his knowing or his consent, that included the death of the son he so publicly mourned.
He often wondered why he let it happen. Why did he send his son and his nephews away. What ever happened to those hags. He was told simply that "they were managed" whatever that means. Short and sweet but also ominous. His intensity when he said that they, as a collective 'they' would not be allowed at Hogwarts for the sake of their "safety." He had nothing to do with those hags and he had no intention of changing that, he was reckless, not suicidal or stupid.
He would continue his campaign to return to Hogwarts and eventually his uncle would falter. He was really stupid if he believed half of what he said or thought, he was so far from the steering wheel, he was not even in the car.
Gideon was not supposed to be on the ship, he was supposed to remain at Mahoutokoro for the duration of this event but Giddy did not listen. Or rather, he disobeyed. He found Mahoutokoro boring, the food weird and he wanted to play with his 'friends.' What friends were these? Who knows. The boy was out of his mind even by Pride's standards.
"Quiet down Giddy," Pride gripped as he flipped to the next page of his book. He was reading about the Rogerian argument. "We are almost there," he huffed with an exasperated sigh. He almost missed his roommate. Almost, he preferred solitude during his exile, a time to stew in his resentment.
He knew that Winnie was going to be waiting for him at the shore. Another show of affection and dedication. He was after all the 'loyal' boyfriend whose eye never strayed, but he very much expected hers to settle on someone else. Someone dumber, plainer, with less means or personality, but that does not matter to a teenage girl if he was accessible. So he would have to make a show of that, of his betrayal and his hurt. His jealousy and insecurities laid bare as he played the role of victim.
They were about to rise, he could feel the vessel shift beneath him. The furniture in the room would even shift. "Merlin," he complained "learn to drive."[/color]
A sudden groan within the bowels of the ship and this strange crashing noise could be heard in the hall. He would glare at the closed door, oblivious to the disaster that this clamoring heralded. That comfort in his obliviousness would not last for long.
"What?" He was already exhausted by Giddy and they had not even thrown anchor. Wait he looked down. He was standing in water that was about to invade his boots. It was then that panic would begin to fill the teen's soul. Why was there water? Why was there water? His mind was not able to get past this terrified chant. Why was there water? Why was there water?
His first instinct was to run into the hall, to open the door and to rush to the deck to escape these dark depths. "Giddy, no!" Mathias would cry, hand on the door.
He would twist the knob and the precious air bubble that surrounded them would be breached by his own foolhardiness. It felt like he was being hit by @Jack Warren when the icy water hit him. The hall had already flooded and he was knocked back. He would hear his brother scream. He would fall and he would hit his head. A cloud of crimson would emerge about his broken cranium as the unconscious Seer did not see this coming.

Panic in the Lake
@Xailah Alptraum
if anyone has experienced what it felt like to escape deaths graps, or what felt like it, they would know how coraline felt. She kept thinking on how she almost hadnt made it to the surface, how not even half an hour before she had been safe and warm.
Why. Why does this happen? Shes heard stories, but she had always trusted her professors and to protect her. Where were they now? And where were the adults? And why was no one getting help? Coraline would have cried had it not been for the fact that she was in too much shock to do so.
She just stared at the water whrre she knew her classmates were, either stuck or saving the stuck. She coughed and looked ariund wildly again. It was taking too long. She felt a hand on her shoulder and she quickly faced her approacher. The older student spoke with a calm urgency, and coraline did not waste any time with a story. "The ship is flooding, and some of the students are stuck in their rooms. " the older student had stood up and was already getting ready to take action. Coraline took off her soaking dress robe ( that she loved to wear everyday to the point where it wasnt even a dress robe but a normal robe) and stood up. "There are students going back to help but theyre taking so long." coraline felt so bad that she was still on the surface and not helping. But she wanted to stay to explain to the professors or help any students come to shore.

Panic in the Lake

"Bow to me peasants"
"No, we will never serve you!"
"Bow or die!"
A trio of teddy bears would converge upon a collection of miscellaneous stuffed animals. A duck with a lion's head, a moose with the body of a cabbage patch child, an alligator with spider legs and a bunny whose ears have been replaced with that of an elf. The teddy bear army needed to keep the denizens of Giddyland in line.
"We yield"
"We surrender"
Gideon would squeak while his older brother complained. He was reading some book. It was a real boring book, he was not entirely sure why. It was a book on compromise and an Athanatos never compromises.
"Kill them all!"
The jovial child king would declare like one might declare a festival or a great feast.
"And feed them to the pigs."
Yes, a feast of sorts the boy would chuckle loudly on the floor. *Squish* Huh, Shreddy the Teddy was moist. "Eeewww," Giddy complained. His hand would plant on the floor and the carpet would squishy under his hands. It was so cold. [h]"It's wet. It's wet!"[/b] The distress would go deep, Giddy was not only inconvenienced but also uncomfortable.
Mathias was dismissive as always. He was a dummy anyways. Gideon would toss another bear cradled in his arms to the side, Mr. Gibbs needed to finish murdering the civilians. They would reconvene later. On his tip toes he would peer out through the porthole. It was really dark out there. The sealed portal of thick glass revealed nothing to the former Hufflepuff as he gazed into the depths of the Great Lake or some dark, aquatic place in between.
Little fingers would attempt to unlatch the porthole. The same magic that transported from from shore to shore beneath the waves would protect him from the waters. It was reasonable had the magic that ensconced the ship continued to work, but the magic had somehow broken in places unseen and the seams that kept the water out had been torn asunder.
"Giddy, no!" Gideon would hear his brother shout, followed by bluthblubth and a... Well Gideon did not hear the rest when the waters came in.
So cold, so dark. Gideon would be taken by surprise, the waters had come for him when his back was turned and knocked him off his feet. Giddeon would fall into the wall, catching himself with his hands. "Help me!" He squeaked pitifully as he looked back towards the open door expecting someone to swoop in and save him as the waters quickly rose within seconds. His brother was not moving, a cloud of crimson wreathing his crown. He needed to get out of there, he looked towards the porthole he was about to open and with a renewed determination he would attempt to unlatch the porthole. He was small, he could fit.

Abilities: CharmerAkihiko closed his eyes. Was he going to die? In this cold water, and wearing soggy clothes? No, he would fight. He continued crying for help until he heard a voice on the other side of the door. “Oi! Pull back on the door when I count to three!” He didn’t recognize the voice, but he was willing to trust his life in this brave souls hands. An eleven year old really shouldn’t be fearing for his life.
"We'll break the door open together! Be careful you don't hurt yourself in the process! Three, two, one, PULL!" Akihiko put his full body weight into pulling the door back and soon the door was slowly pushed open. Soon he could see who had rescued him. Hiro. An older student, sure, but one he recognized all the same. He would have to express his gratitude after he had left with his life. He stated Hiro in the eyes and said all he with the time being. “ありがとうございます.”1
It was down to business again. "I'll turn the window to sand and you can swim out up to the surface." Akihiko nodded. The window turned to sand quickly, sending a new wave of water spewing through the hole where window had been. "Grab your stuff and go save yourself!" Akihiko took one last cursory glance around the room. There wasn’t anything he could take, really. “私はここに持ち運べるほど軽いものすべてを持っています.”2 He held up his wand and nodded to Hiro before diving through the window.
Akihiko was never a great swimmer, but he was able to pull himself to shore. He reflected quickly. Had he left anything of value on the ship? Anything that would make his family angry? A family antique, maybe? That’s when it hit him. His cousin. He couldn’t abandon him on the ship, no matter how much he was annoyed by him. “Botan!” He cried, flinging himself into the water. It didn’t matter that he had no idea how to save his cousin, or that the ship was probably almost completely underwater now. He wouldn’t be admitting to his family that he had escaped the ship unscathed and his cousin hadn’t. Although they might not care…Reducio1) Thank you so much.
