Kings and Queens

Interacting with: @Hunter Argentum
Bea watched as Hunter rolled his eyes at her words. Probably thinking himself better than her. She scoffed. That was no surprise. He sat on his branch like a mighty King, just like the chess piece in his hand. Her hand tightened her grip on the piece in her palm, the edges digging into the soft flesh, and providing a sense of clarity. Seriously, did her think her stupid? She was honest about her opinions, perhaps a little too much, but she couldn't stand time wasters and dishonest people. Something Hunter had exuded on more than one occasion. It always made her invisible hackles rise when someone decided they were going to deceive or waste her time. Something Hunter always did quite well it seemed.
Before she had a moment to grasp what was to come next, Hunter leapt off the branch, landing minutely close to her. An inch more and he would have landed on top of her! Did he mean to break every bone in her body to get out of this Ball?! It must have been his landing and her startled emotions, because he was able to grab her queen piece and place it on the board. All to command his King to attack and slaughter the Queen to pieces. It seemed no matter what, the King would always have the last move. She felt only a small bit of surprise, more so because somewhere inside she felt her heart and the inkling of trust built up over this afternoon shatter into pieces. Was this what was to become of her? Crushed into a million pieces by someone more powerful? By someone who watched in the shadows whilst the others did his bidding? She sniffed, glaring at him as he picked up the chess set and set his lizard to rights back inside of his robe.
Picking herself off the ground at this moment seemed like a good idea. Hunter, by all accounts, looked ready to leave her there by the tree, and maybe that would have been better. She certainly didn't want to follow him back inside the castle. Not with how things had ended. It hadn't ended with them singing each others praises, but the afternoon had been pleasant enough. It certainly hadn't ended with any fires or poisonings, and Bea took that as a good sign. She opened her mouth to ask what the final question was, thinking that Hunter had just discovered the end of his rope when dealing with her, but the pièce de résistance came as he started walking away. Bea's face scrunched in momentary lapse, thinking she hadn't heard right. So much for that inkling of trust right? Her hands balled into fists and her face contorted into anger as she watched his back walk away into the distance.
She cupped her hand over her mouth and shouted her answer back, hoping the wind knocked it into his ears like smack to the head, "That all depends on you Argentum!" All in all, it was the perfect way to end a bizarre afternoon. With her mission all said and done, she let Hunter walk away and herself trail down to the Lake's edge to cool her fingers off. At least then something would be cool...
