So, to specify, I've RPed Colin talking about the squid, but he doesn't actually think there is a squid:

Here, he's telling Taizu of the squid and how he'd like to meet it, but seems to be somewhat agnostic of its existence.

Here, in a letter to Ciarán, he mentions the squid as hearsay.
