Quidditch Slytherin vs Hufflepuff - Winter 2023

Being back on the Quidditch pitch brought that competitive edge back to Ethen as he moved into his position. Games tended to be a painful experience for Ethen but he still loved the chance to help out his teammates. He knew they relied on him to keep his focus and he knew that each of his teammates was equally determined to win. The last game had been brutal but Ethen had faith that they would be able to make quick work of the serpents.

Stretching out his neck, Ethen took a deep breath as he scanned the field. He suddenly realized, there was still no battle music to be heard. How was his team supposed to feel ready without a battle song? "Ohhhhhhhh! We are the badgers of doom! Be ready to be thrown from your brooms! No matter where you try and zoom! The Badger'll get ya! No matter how fast you fly, or try to bribe them with pie... The Badgers'll get ya! Ohhhhh! Run and hide little sneks! We're coming for your necks...and... The Badgers'll get ya!" Ethen cried out at a relatively obnoxious volume as he swayed back and forth on his broom.

In the role of Seeker, if an opponent attempts to Bludger or Blatch you, there is a 20% chance that you veer out of the way the last second and another enemy player at RANDOM is targeted instead.

Percival stared up at the sky with a deep frown across his face. It was a start to a new season. Another year at this damned school, and another year of pretending he honestly cared about anyone's feelings other than his own. The only good thing seemed to be the chance of flying. It had always been his shining light in the dark. The thrill of climbing upon his broom and shooting through the air at dangerously fast speeds had always been tantalizing. As the boy sat upon the bench he would hold his broom upright. Pulling the wooden handle to rest against his left cheek as he stared out into the field. The wind lightly graced his face, not yet the harsh whipping air that came from flying through the air. In truth, it was kind of nice. It lightened his mood despite being in the bench with some of the most annoying people ever.

Annie felt nerves. Since her first game during her second year, up until now even though it was her 3rd or so year on the team, minus the time she switched positions and left for a small period of time. It was a big deal, to say the least. And Slytherin was a hard team to beat. At leas the weather was on their side at least for the moment. It was unpredictable at times but sometimes the weather could aid or provide issues so the fact it was content was good. A small sigh exhaled her as the roaring cheers entered her hearing right as her feet moved beneath her, carrying her out to the field. It was good she couldn't see the crowds, then her nerves would be worse. Rather, she focused on her breathing as she made her way to the bench. It seemed even with her being of a second-string position, she was in more games than she expected so she had to keep up on training and pay attention during the games versus daydreaming. Placing her broom between her legs and her chin resting in her hands, she'd wait for the whistle to be blown, signaling the first round.

Deep breaths. In. Out. We got this. The seasoned co-captain of Slytherins quidditch team was vibrating with pre-game jitters. Lacing up the last bit of her uniform, she stood from the bench and followed her teammates as they left the locker room and took to the pitch. Feeling the slight chill as the wind gently blew, she took to the skies. Looking towards where the sun was setting, vibrant colors of warm reds, oranges, and yellows graced the sky. After years of practice, she had mastered the subtleties of flying, weaving around the pitch. Sending up the silent prayer to her gods she so regularly recited before a match, she finished her final deep breathing exercises, and took her position for the start of the game.

The crisp February air nipped at Atlas’ cheeks and nose as she flew into the pitch with her team. The cacophony of noise around her only amplified the adrenaline coursing through her body as an oversized smile illuminated her face.

Through her years at Hogwarts, she had found a handful of places that had grown to become second homes to her. Places where she felt undeniably herself. Places where she could be weird and wacky, impulsive and colorful, and this pitch was one of them.

So long as the weather wasn’t sweltering, she could spend all day here without feeling like her time had been wasted.

Readjusting herself on her broom, Atlas flicked her eyes to each of her teammates before landing on Ethen as she watched the opposing Seeker flying over to him surely enamored with his catchy jingle.

"Aww how cute, Ethen...Little Palmer is trying his best to insult you. We better not hurt his fragile ego too much and pretend it was a good one. Oh wow! Dan, you are such an epic roaster. HEY EVERYONE LOOK OVER HERE!" Atlas shouted out. "Dan is just letting the burns fly, things...are...getting...wild!" Atlas quipped, placing her fingers at the center of her chest, dramatically tossing her head back in a mocked gasp as she passed the boys.

If an attempt to score has been blocked through this effect, the Keeper may as a free action hurl the quaffle at the opponent team in an attempt to injure a player of their choice (it would be recovered with a quaffle grab action) and treated like a bludger or pass the quaffle to a team mate. This must be declared by the Keeper if either of these free actions are to be utilized.

Harder to hit on average, 10% on auto-dodge chance that anything that targets this wizard automatically misses. This is rolled separate from the attack roll.

It would be like so many other games. The stadium thrummed with energy, it was electric. Quidditch was the singular norm for the teen through the twists and turns that would define her tenure at Hogwarts. She had garnered some odd sense of comradery through team dynamics and unlike all other walks of life, she understood her purpose, her place and her objective.

She would buckle her guards and pull back her long, blond tresses into a tight pony tail. It never stayed for long, unruly strands of hair would frame her face in spite of the rough finger comb. The part Veela really did not have the time to preen as she looked towards the locker room door and mounted her broom. It was time. She kicked off and took flight on her firebolt (+accuracy as chosen stat).

She would fly around the perimeter, her bat held in her left hand and swung it idly in her hand. They were apparently going to face off against Hufflepuff. She liked Hufflepuff, they were deceptively violent. There was something about entering a melee against an opponent that was utterly unrestrained that she found extraordinary. Their rage and their passion was something she would only feel by extension, an echo of the potential within her opponent's sentiments. She hoped Howard would at least try to take her down, because she had every intention of taking him out. It would be rather dull if she made it through another game mostly unscathed.

xxxThe second game of the year. Maggie, since the unofficial game she had played against Colin McCoire and his band of goons, had felt a real urge to finally get back into the game. Sure, the unofficial game was an awful lot of fun, but nothing compared to the feeling of being completely adored by a crowd of fans. An unofficial game just didn't have the fun that a real one did. Maggie soared onto the field, donning hair that hadn't yet been seen by the fans of the pitch, tied up in a messy ponytail behind her head. Her uniform was fitted well, bright pink socks peeking out between the shoes she was wearing and the school-issued trousers. A pair of goggles sat atop her head, hair pushed back and flyaways whipping in the air. Today was the day that Slytherin began their winning streak of the year, she was certain of it.

After the last game and the (to Jack) unexpected victory that the Cloud Cobras had pretty quickly achieved, the fourth year wasn't as terribly nervy as he had been previously. He had more pride and confidence in his team, now; more so than he ever would have thought he'd have. Still, he didn't entirely feel like a part of it due to the fact that he hadn't been needed before and he doubted he would be needed this time - which was just fine with him. In fact, that was one of the reasons he could be more relaxed and fly his introductory lap with a smile on his face. It felt more to him like he was a spectator with really good seating compared to everyone else.

Once he had made it to the benches, he snickered softly at the interactions going on between various Slytherins and Hufflepuffs. It was really amazing just how competitive some people could get with a good game and how that could seem to change the sides they showed of their personalities. Plopping himself down next to Flash as usual, he hoped the other boy wouldn't mind and eyed the thermos his roommate had curiously. Looking around, he noted Percival's petulant presence nearby and saw Avery seated on the other side of Flash, putting on his shoe.

Jack wanted to say something to the others; anything to shake things up a bit and rid them of the almost palpable tension in the air, but Avery beat him to it. It was the perfect thing to say, too. What better topic to bring up than the upcoming Valentine's Day? Jack laughed aloud. At least until he realized he himself didn't know what to reply.

His gaze strayed thoughtfully to Flash before returning to Avery. "Well, I would have liked to ask someone, but the last time I even hinted at something like that, they went ballistic on me and I'm still not even entirely sure why," he blurted through a fixed smile before he even knew what he was saying. "It's bloody impossible to ask people, I tell you! I just don't understand how anyone manages it."

He then turned to Percival. "What about you, Rainwood? How's your love life been lately?" he asked with a cheeky smirk, hoping to hide his mortification with himself and quickly change the topic from what he'd brought up.

- In the role of Keeper, if the Keeper effectively blocks an attempt to score rather than obtain possession of the quaffle they can kick the quaffle at the user who attempted to score. This must be declared at the time actions are submitted. This would have damage like a bludger using an accuracy roll to hit and the user's strength score to determine the amount of damage done. If the quaffle hits or misses the target, a quafflegrab the next round would be necessary to determine which team has possession of the quaffle again.
