The Journey Begins Closed

Renée wasn't sure if her answer was what the other girl had expected, nor whether any other prospective students would agree that following one's parents legacy was the norm. After all, Renée had heard of several generations of families who were all part of the same house, with those who weren't being considered outcast... Although these were mostly her parents visitors families, and Renée had heard these rumours from their children, who she now realised, could've told her anything, and she would have likely believed them. She'd been so sheltered, her only real knowledge coming from her books, many of which were muggle fantasy, so offered very little in terms of the way the world worked. Especially the wizarding world.

When Valarie spoke again, Renée was dragged from her revelry, a smile crossing her features again. "Hmmm, I kinda hope I'm not... " she admitted, hurrying to add "Not that I don't like Hufflepuff, I just... my parents would probably be furious..." She shrugged and shifted closer to the window to gaze out as Valarie replied to her sentiment about their approaching arrival.

"Are we meant to change into those ghastly robes we bought when the letters arrived?" She said, watching as the castle took shape in the distance, it was enormous... Larger than she'd expected at least, though her mother had told her tons about the castle grounds and what she might find within.
The robes they'd all been instructed to buy were plain black, hanging to the smaller kids mid-calves, topped off with a pointed hat which Ren only hoped they'd do away with almost immediately. She wasn't entirely fashion focused but to make up for the lack of real childhood, her mother had always fed her shopping addictions. After all, Elanor too was fond of buying the latest and greatest fashion.

Valarie could understand were Renée was coming from. Her sister was one of the few Slythein in her family and her mother’s side of the family consisted of several Hufflepuffs, most of which her sister despised thanks to their gift of loving well…everyone! Their ways were very different. Valarie looked up to see the castle even larger in the distance and heard Renée ask her if she knew if they were supposed to change into, as she put it, ghastly robes. Valarie shrugged and muttered,
“Better safe than sorry!” That just happened to be her mother’s favorite sentence in the world. Valarie slipped the plain black robe on, grimacing at its scratchy material. They grew closer and closer to the castle and with each breath Valarie grew more excited and a teensy bit more terrified. After all, this school was her destiny. If she didn’t do well…well she couldn’t even imagine what scorn she would face- as a Pure Blood no doubt. Before she knew it, the train had pulled into the station. Everything was a blur as the train screeched to a halt and everyone began spilling out of the train. Commotion swelled around her like one of the ginormous black holes from her fantasy novels eating her up from the inside out. She tried to catch Renée’s eye but the bustling train station prevented her from doing so. Thanks to the other students pushing her out, she now stood staring up at the grand castle. There were no other students she could identify and that left her alone with nothing to do but keep walking. But one thought keep echoing in her head:
What house would she get?
She had a shot at the brave Gryffindor, the loyal Hufflepuff, or the cunning Slytherin. Or would she be the outcast of the family? A Ravenclaw?

I’m sorry. Did I step on your moment?
To change the world it takes a little genius.
How on earth did you manage to turn a safety room into a not-so-safety room.
