CL Archery club meeting

Once upon a time, forever and a day ago, a small 11-year-old girl signed up for an Archery club. Skipping to the present, that same girl, now 12, was going to her first Archery club meeting. That girl is me, obviously. I had loved archery when I was little, seeing people doing it on tv, and even trying it myself once with an accidental birthday present, though I had hit all the wrong targets: my neighbor's poor cat, bless her soul, the second arrow got entangled in my brother's hair, and the 3rd arrow had hit a teacup in my Nanny's teacup set. All of the arrows were real and deadly, with no fail-safes or anything. That third arrow had done it: I needed to improve my accuracy. So when I signed up for Archery Club, I was ready to learn how to actually hit the bullseye. I was ready to be a good shot. And I was also resisting throwing out a bunch of archery puns the whole time. Naturally, the meeting would be outside, since nobody would consider doing archery inside. I hope. I was a little later than all the others here, and I saw lots of students, most I didn't recognize, but one person, Gavin, I did. It seemed that an archery club had caught the eye of a lot of people! "Hi! I'm Aurora. Did I miss anything?" I asked.

Gavin sipped on his hot chocolate. For the most part, the cold didn’t bother him. The skin of his hands got immensely cracked when they were exposed to the air though, hence why he had a pair of gloves on. He didn’t usually wear full-fingers for archery, but he didn’t want to have to deal with bleeeding knuckles when he got back to the dorms.

Seeing the pink puffball role out of the green-haired boy’s bag, his eyes widened. He had never seen a Pygmy puff in person before. They really were fluffy. He wished he had a pet, but he wanted to give himself a chance to get adjusted to life at Hogwarts before taking on that responsibility. Still, seeing the small creature was a bit exciting.

He stayed quiet at the edge of the picnic blanket, sipping at his drink and watching as people showed up, grey eyes taking in everyone. Most of the people in the archery club were people he didn’t know. However, there was one person he had met. Seriously, this was the third time. Still, it was someone familiar, so he took a bit of comfort in that, opting to wave at the blonde girl.

“Supposedly not,” he replied to her inquiry.

Most of the people seemed to gather at the blanket when they arrived, but a couple opted instead for the targets. He narrowed his eyes when the most recent person to appear shot a perfect bullseye. It’s not a competition, Gavin. It’s a club meeting, he had to scold himself. He could be competitive later, once he knew what the vibe of the club was going to be. Even so, his fingers itched to do the same.

Or maybe that was just the cold. Who knew.

It was the day, the day of the Archery Club meeting. Hannah had just received a note the other day that read:

Dear members of the Archery Club,
This is your new President of the Archery Club, Bailey Glade. I may know you, or we may have not met yet. I look forward to getting to know you further in our upcoming meetings and around school.
As for meetings, this letter is to inform you about the meeting we are having tomorrow, December 1st at 6:00 PM in the Outdoor Club Area.
At this meeting we will gather and discuss what we would like to achieve with this club, and then we will set up come targets for practice. Dinner and dessert will be provided, feel free to eat before though.
Thank you for reading this, and I cannot wait to meet you all tomorrow!!

She was very excited, still nervous of course, yet a feeling of excitement took up a lot of space in her head. As the girl walked by the place where some of the members sat, thousands of thoughts appeared on her head What if I'm not good?

Finally, she had gotten enough courage to actually speak to the members of the club.

The truth was, she had never actually even held a bow and arrow, but most people knew about this. In reality, she had gotten a bow for her tenth birthday from her uncle, who she never met, he sent it by owl, as he lived in America, but her mother hid it.

Lucky enough, Hannah was able to find it so she could take it to Hogwarts. So, she did touch it, but never used it. The girl hid it in her trunk hours before the train departed. A beaultiful bow, and some arrows too... She always wondered why her mother hid it, but she came to conclusion that it was because it was something dangerous. Not that Hannah thought it was, but her mother was a different creature when angry. That wasn't the point.

She walked closer where the members were, she stood and said "Hi! I'm here for the Archery Meeting. I'm Hannah, Hannah Blossom!" Now she wasn't nervous, no, excited.

"Sorry I'm late, I brought my bow, just in case..." She smiled, and thought about why she was late. "Did I miss anything?"

Archery.

It was an interesting sport, to watch and to do. Kayla had seen it on television sometime, and it was something she immiedetly wanted to try. It was prooven, a dfficult sport. She had, at some point, tried it in school as one of the small sports the school had made the entire class try, so naturally, her father bought her a bow. It was somewhat fun, but Kayla was alwaya being told over and over to straighten her back. It was only a few days she tried, but after that, she never tried or did it again.

Until she heard there was an archery club, that was.

Kayla was heading down to the club area at 5:45 PM. That time was about when Squeaky decided she had slept enough and was ready to bounce around the common room for a few hours. But Kayla had decided that it probably wasn't a good idea to bring a ferret to archery practice.

She recognised a few people when she made it there. Bailey was who she recognised first, so that was who she decided to approach.
"Hey, Bailey! Not late, am I?" Kayla greeted the older Ravenclaw. That was when she noticed Kim, who she knew from a few clubs. She hadn't recognised him thanks to his festive green hair, concidering his red hair the month before. "Hey, Kim!" After greeting both of them, she noticed a familiar blonde and a not-so-familiar blonde.
"Well, hello, mysterious tree boy," she said to Gavin, who had earned the title when she had met him, where he was in a tree. "Aurora?" the blonde hair was defiantly a shocker. That was about everyone she recognised and there were already a lot of people.

Bailey sat and enjoyed her food. She was just finishing up when the first member showed up.
That member was a first year Ravenclaw bailey had seen around the common room and the castle. Her name was Pandora, and Bailey was curious if she was named after the goddess that Pandora’s box came from.
With a smile, Bailey greeted the younger girl.
“Yes! My name is Bailey, Bailey Glade. Third gear Ravenclaw and president of this club!”
Next to show up was another Ravenclaw first year, named Gavin. He approached her, and she smiled in greeting. “Yes I am the leader of this club. Bailey Glade is my name, third year Ravenclaw.”
Third to arrive was a third Ravenclaw, named Oliver brown. He was among the first years as well, and Bailey was glad to see the Ravenclaws were all showing up.
“Yes my name is Bailey Glade! And if you would refrain from practicing until everyone is here and we have gone over the safety protocols, and I have given the go ahead that would be greatly appreciated.”
Another first year, this time a snek named Billy was next to arrive. Bailey welcomed them with a smile and a simple “Welcome! Feel free to help yourself to the food!”
Kim was next to arrive, laden with food. The sight of her best friend made her smile, and she helped him set out the food he had brought. She gave him a quick hug and whispered into his ear “I’m so glad you’re here!!”
She drew back with a smile, before getting up to welcome the other members.
Damion white was next to show up, and then a young snek walked up to bailey to introduce herself. “Hello and welcome Katherine!! I would love to be your friend, and to get to know you better!”
Cass was next to enter the space, and she approached Bailey with a compliment. Bailey smiled and said “why thank you, that means a lot!”
Aurora, another first year but this time from Hufflepuff, was next to enter. Bailey smiled and welcome her, saying “Welcome Aurora!”
The next member to enter introduced herself as Thorne. She, without asking permission, shot her bow. Bailey, excusing herself from the group, and holding puffie in her hand so that she didn’t drop the little puffball, approached Thorne to explain how this was not acceptable.
“Thorne, I’m happy you’re excited to shoot, but you need to ask permission before you do so. Today we will only maybe allow a few people to have target practice, and that’s only after we review the rules and regulations and such for the club. I need to you listen, and obey they rules, and to put your bow away. No matter how good or skilled you are, you still have to follow my rules and such, since I am the person in charge of this club. Thank you for understanding.”
With that, Bailey turned and returned to the larger group, leaving Thorne to remove her arrow from the target and to join them.
Several more people joined them, Hannah and Kayla. Kim also stepped away from the group, possibly overwhelmed.
Bailey clapped, to get everyone’s attention and once she had it, she said “Hello and welcome everyone, to the first meeting of the school year! My name is Bailey Glade and I am the president of this club. If you ever have any questions or concerns please ask me or my vice president, Kim! Now if everyone can gather round, we are going to enjoy some of this lovely food that Kim and I have prepared while I explain some of the rules, regulations, and expectations for this club.”

Gavin choked on a laugh when Kayla showed up, greeting him with the nickname “mysterious tree by.” “Yo. I didn’t know you did archery,” he said, grinning. Then again, considering they had only met once, he didn’t know much about her anyway.

He watched as Bailey scolded the girl who shot at the target, nodding along. He understood that. The club wasn’t just for experienced shooters after all. Just walking up and shooting was both dangerous and set a bad example. He didn’t even remember that before, but now that the elder had mentioned it, that was a good point.

Gavin listened to the short speech, although it was pretty much a review for him. At the brunette’s question though, he blanched. So. Clearly she’s not very experienced, he thought.

“So, uhm, I’m not a club leader, but the protocol is basically so no one gets hurt. We are using weapons after all. The way I was taught, basically don’t shoot when somebody is in the space between you and the targets, wait to shoot until you’re allowed to, don’t walk where people are shooting, use proper form, etc. It ensures that nobody gets shot because they did something stupid, whether the person being stupid is the shooter or the person who got in the way. Safety, you know?” He started clamming up once he got started though, thinking that maybe he should have just let one of the leaders answer… well, too late now.
