Hufflepuff Vs. Gryffindor - Fall 2022

Banner by Kim Sato
An Invitation for @Colin McCoire to join @Simon Kincaid and @David Howard and AngelFyre to cheer on House Hufflepuff
As AngelFyre was bantering back and forth with her fellow and with Dave, she had to admit a small spark of an interest in Quidditch may have developed. Part of her issue here was that being a spectator was not something she particularly enjoyed, except she had discovered, when it had come to Simon's broom races. But honestly, everything that pertained to Simon would be interesting to the girl. He was, and always would be most likely, the exception to that rule. But even so, she just liked broom racing more. She liked the freedom of the physical challenges in addition to the human ones. Large as it was, a quidditch field just seemed confining by comparison to a racer's track. AngelFyre did not like to be confined; it was not in her nature to be so.
She reached for another handful of the buttery popcorn Simon had brought when a bit of green and black and long white hair caught her attention from the periphery. Could it be? And if it was, why would he be here? She turned her head and sure enough, Colin and his snappy kilt came into full view and glorious focus. If there was one thing AngelFyre was a sucker for, it was a kilt. She just loved them. He passed her row and headed up to some unknown place behind them in the yellow sea of Huffles.
She tossed a few more kernels in the air and once again, caught each one on her tongue. "Woo hoo! Batting a thousand! Top that, broom racing man and he who can speak for minutes on the vapors of but one breath. I dare both of you," and she smiled confidently at each of them.
As Simon was deciding whether to take the challenge on or not, and who was he kidding.... of course he would take it on... AngelFyre turned and scanned the crowd behind her for her Woofy. She knew, even as many people as were here, that Colin had to know she was here, too, even if he had not seen her at first. That keen nose of his and those sharp ears probably had her presence confirmed and her location dialed in long ago. As she continued to scan, it took a frustrating amount of time to finally land eyes on him, and when she did, he was smiling wide and rooting for Alma Stoll. Well, that explains it. Colin knew everyone, or seemed to, so of course he would be here to root on a fellow Hufflepuff.
She turned back around and quickly leaned over and gave a long suctioning kind of kiss to Simon's cheek, delighting in the masterful thwacking sound it made when her lips finally relinquished their purchase on her hunky hottie of a Hufflepuff. "Try not to miss me too much, but I am going to go up a couple of rows behind us and talk to Colin for a few minutes. I heard him cheering on Alma Stoll, so I am going to see if I can convince him to cheer her on down here with us. I will be back shortly," and before she stood, she leaned over one more time to give him a much sweeter peck on his tasty, buttery lips. "I lied. Do try to miss me. Reunions are so much more fun if you do," and she winked at him before scooting past the other spectators in their row.
Less than a minute later, she found herself sitting next to Colin. "One would think you might stick out like a sore thumb in that green and black get up in a sea of yellow, but as it turns, out, not so much," and she chuckled. Then some fabulous move was made in the game and a sea of Huffles began to hoot and holler. "Dang it, I missed it. Did you see what happened? Nevermind, I will get the replay from Dave's omnioculars in a few minutes."
She reached down and squeezed his hand briefly and then released it. "So, tell me, Woofy. You think you might want to come and join me and Simon and Dave as we, too, cheer on your friend Alma and the other Hufflepuffs? I promise you will be in excellent company, but I can act as a buffer if you want to just be there but not "be" there. I know Simon has been dying to get to know you better, but he will not press it if you are not ready right now," and she silenced herself for a couple of seconds before sweetening the pot. "And if it makes a difference to you, because the illustrious company of three such fine badgers as ourselves may somehow turn out not to be enough of an enticement for you, let me just add that Simon brought a large container of popcorn," and she looked around them nonchalantly to make certain they were not being overheard as she leaned over and whispered a single word in his ear.
"Buttered."
Then she just sat back with a patented 'Drop the mic' kind of expression and stared straight ahead, crossing her arms in front of her chest with a barely there self-satisfied smile.
The magic is real.

Soon after I said “Serves her right!”, AngelFyre turned to me and began talking. “Okay. You have probably already forgotten more about the game of Quidditch than I currently know, so I ask you, Master David Logan Matthew Patrick Howard, we have scored 40 on the board, but we are down three 1st string players. What do you see our chances to be?” As soon as AngelFyre finished, I immediately began doing the math in my head. ‘Well the score still gives us a fifty fifty because if the Gryffindor seeker catches the snitch, then we’re doomed. We have three players out and two that can substitute them which equates to a total amount of six players on the field out of the full seven. Three of the seven players for the opposite team are doing penalty laps around the pitch which leaves their team at four out of seven players on the field. Their goalie is out doing penalty laps so we have a higher chance to score, but at the same time, they still have both beaters in the game which means that they could possibly knock out two more players. If the Gryffindor team keeps focusing on trying to get our players out, then as long as we get to 160 points then they loose either way unless they score more points.’Notice: Inappropriate language ahead.
Most of my thoughts weren’t even related to math which was why my final answer would be mostly guess work at a nice fifty something percent chance of winning, but just as I was about to answer, AngelFyre said “Woo hoo! Batting a thousand! Top that, broom racing man and he who can speak for minutes on the vapors of but one breath. I dare both of you.” “What?” I asked as I noticed that the score had already gone up to 60-0. It was too late to ask questions however, as AngelFyre had already spotted Colin and said “Try not to miss me too much, but I am going to go up a couple of rows behind us and talk to Colin for a few minutes. I heard him cheering on Alma Stoll, so I am going to see if I can convince him to cheer her on down here with us. I will be back shortly.” She then stood up before kissing Simon and saying “I lied, do try to miss me. Reunions are so much more fun if you do.” She then left and even though I knew that she wasn’t talking to me, I said “Oh, I’ll miss you plenty AF! And by the way, our chances of winning are probably around sixty percent more or less.”
I turned back towards the game, only to notice that the score had already gone up to 70-0 and moments later, I saw Howard, one of the Hufflepuff chasers attempt to cheat by blatching Haliee and Finnegan who dodged his attempt which forced the ref to assign him a penalty lap. And just like with Hailee, almost immediately after the attempted blatching, an uproar broke out as the sound of many “BOOO”s and “FOUL”s erupted from many of the spectators one of which was me who also shouted “YOU FUCKING IDIOT!” Honestly, I was really disappointed with Howard. I mean, here he was, scoring points for Hufflepuff, when all of a sudden, he decided to just blatch the duo. And on top of that, he missed. Like, c’mon man, if you’re going to cheat, then you might as well do it right. And besides you could’ve tried to blatch them later, the Gryffindor goalpost was literally open which would’ve allowed him to score a few more times and gotten us closer to the 160 we needed to be able to win against Gryffindor even if their seeker caught the snitch. At least the rest of the chasers weren’t idiots like him though, because moments later, the only remaining Hufflepuff Chaser, Serena (the second-string chaser got knocked out), scored another ten points for the team.
It was at that moment that both of the seekers had spotted the snitch, and as I looked down to where they were starring, I noticed that the golden snitch myself. “Dang, that was fast, don’t you agree Simon? I mean, the seekers have already found the snitch.” Now, I just had to hope that the Hufflepuff seeker was the one who caught it.

Hufflepuff Vs. Gryffindor - Fall 2022

Watching @AngelFyre McCubbin depart from him momentarily and talking with @David Howard
"Quidditch is a fast moving sport. Not quite as fast as broom racing, mind you," he said as he watched AngelFyre walk away and go find her friend. "I'm going to try to get to some of your duels this year, yours and AngelFyre's. I need to get out of that dormitory now and again."
Really, he just wanted to keep his focus. This year, with the unsettling aura trying to settle in, he was finding himself more moody than he had ever been in his life and he wasn't liking it. He liked the calm, collected, easy-going sort of Simon but he knew he was still there. At least, right now being amongst friends he knew it was still there. Later, whenever it should show itself the next time - he wouldn't be too sure at the moment.
"Looks like Second Year might beat last year for Dave Howard, eh?" he asked his friend, wondering how he was doing. "Dueling, a date to the Ball, cool friends," he smiled to him on that last one because yes, he was calling himself and AngelFyre cool. "Not to mention brother at Hogwarts. You doing well?" He seemed to be, but he still wanted to do a check on his friend.

“Quidditch is a fast moving sport.” Simon remarked as I finished talking before grabbing some more of that buttered popcorn for myself. “Not quite as fast as broom racing, mind you.” he continued and I put vegan looking through my omnioculars again as I replied with “That’s debatable, I can hardly keep track of the scoreboard here. I got deep in thought about a minute ago and when I looked up, the score had gone from forty to zero to sixty to zero.” Simon just said, “Nah, broom racing’s faster.” before getting some more popcorn for himself and saying “I'm going to try to get to some of your duels this year, yours and AngelFyre's. I need to get out of that dormitory now and again.” “Oh, that’s nice. I didn’t see you at my duel last year, but then again, a ton of people attend duels. I mean, compared to Quidditch Matches, not that many people come but of the few hundred that do, it’s quite hard to spot a specific person, especially during the middle of the duel. Do attend my duel this year though, I’ve begun to practice a bunch of spells other then Flipendo so it should be a fun duel.” I then grabbed another handful of popcorn for myself before continuing to spectate the match.Permission to godmod in the manner done so given by Simon Kincaid
“Looks like Second Year might beat last year for Dave Howard, eh?” Simon asked me out of nowhere. “Dueling, a date to the ball, cool friends, not to mention brother at Hogwarts. You doing well?” “Oh, you bet.” I said. “Imagine how much better next year will be. I mean, I'll know better spells, have more friends probably, and hopefully I'll have at least one dueling win to my name. Say, you wouldn't mind attending my next duel to cheer me on, will you? It's about an hour before AngelFyre's at ten thirty in the morning.”
