With Mikael unable to pry Valentin off his broad backside, rage boiled inside the dark-haired boy. Valya had grown desperate, knowing that bringing up his mother would only feed the anger, but he needed Misha to somehow feel the danger they were in. Yet, Mik responded by shutting down the topic entirely with a vicious snarl. It’s better that he’s angry, thought Valya. Better to unleash his wrath than to ignore this any longer.

“You speak of faith, Mikael, but what of Yefim’s faith in us, depending on us to give him what he needs? Do you question Yefim’s faith in me as his eyes? You say he can’t die, but I know that we are mortal because I FUCKING DIED. Last April, Stribog blasted my arrogant ass out of the sky with a lightning bolt to force me to wake the fuck up. Death showed me how insignificant I am compared to reality. Only by almost killing my friends was I able to come back to life. Don’t speak to me of immortality, Mikael, when you haven’t even seen the other side.”

Jumping off the other boy’s back, Valentin drew his wand and jabbed it into the boy’s shoulder blade.

“Dying then was enough. Let me eat the bitter truth if you’re too cowardly to stomach it, but don’t you fucking kill Yefim in the process by trying to stop me. I’m not Yefim’s boss, but it’s my job to tell him the truth. It’s up to him what he wants to do with that sight, just like it’s up to you now. I promised I wouldn’t leave you, not even when you almost ended me, but you can’t run from the truth forever. Face me, Mikael. Face reality.”

The wand in Misha’s back began to warm to near-burning, spitting coils of black smoke as Valentin growled an incantation: “Circumrota.”

Valya’s rotation spell executed easily 1d20 : 12+15=27 Success and, with the wand lodged in the boy’s back, Mikael was unable to evade 8+15=23 ACC vs. 9+8=17 EVA. The spell forced his grey-blue eyes to turn towards Valentin’s palladium stare as Mikael’s entire body rotated to face the frost captain.

“Yefim isn’t a god yet. Until he is, we can’t let him die, okay?”

Mikael grunted distress filling deeply into his chest. A suffocating weight that pressed into every crevice of him. Pushing against his rib cage, as if it were trying to break out of his chest cavity. The boy's brows furrowed upward as he glanced wildly around. Trying to throw the other off. His movements sharper and more panicked as he tried to free himself from the grip the other had on him. Both physically....and mentally.

The boy whipped his head to the side as Valentin started to speak once more. His bangs stuck to his forehead as sweat slid down his brow in copious amounts. A wild look clear as day in the singular eye that bore down the other boy. If looks could kill the other boy would surely be dead by now. Though, at this point, he wasn't sure if he would really care. Mikael's frown dipped a little lower as Valentin claimed to have died. How had he not known about this? Mikael's eyes narrowed further. A small tug in his heart made him second guess how much he would be alright with the other boy dying. Why had no one told him? Was the other boy lying? "You're lying. If you died you wouldn't be standing here." he spoke harshly.

Mikael tipped backwards slightly as the other boy finally released him from his bounds. His shirt stuck to him in odd places, and it was quite clear he had precipitated during the exchange. Gross.. The boy moved to walk forward but stopped as he felt something blunt start into his back. Mikael glowered as he ground his teeth as he froze once more.

"I cannot kill Yefim, can't you see? He's a fucking god! He saved me!" he hopelessly tried to get the other boy to understand him. He couldn't understand why the other boy struggled so much to understand the situation. A burning feeling laced through his clothes distracting him from his thoughts. Mikael's jowls clicked together as he felt his face screw up in anger as the other forced him to turn around. Facing the other boy with eyes dark with animosity.

"You act as if you are the only one to brush fingers with death! I've been there before and I surely would have gone if Yefim hadn't decided I was worthy of his grace. Worthy of eternal life with him! I will never give that up. I can't!" he desperately wailed his words losing their anger as something boiled below the surface of his mind. Cold fear washed over him at the mere thought of what the boy had been trying to push. Like a child who was slowly starting to realize that their comfort blanket couldn't protect them from the dangers and monsters of the real world. The boy blinked quickly narrowing his mind as he forced himself to not think anymore on that thought. Yefim was real....and he was going to protect him. Bring him with him to their eternal life. Just the two of them. Like it always had been. Them...

"Let me go, Valentin." he spoke coldly. Far more level-headed than he had been mere moments before. A cold resolve hugged the air around him as he stared down the white-haired boy. He was done being held still. Being forced to play a role in whatever play Valentin was orchestrating. It had grown far too old and he could not help the tiredness that settled into his brain. Far unused to this much interaction for his liking.

"You're lying. If you died you wouldn't be standing here," said Mikael, and Valentin released him from his grasp.

“…It’s true, Misha. I crossed into the other realm, and would have gone forever if… you knew him from quidditch… hadn’t brought me back with muggle ways. My heart was stopped, and now everything is different for me now that I’m back. You’re different for me. Yefim is different. We’re not immortals, and I’d sooner go to hell than let you or Yefim go. Even if it makes no sense to you, crossing that line showed me what was really important and true.”

Leaning in close to Mikael’s face, Valentin began to whisper.

“Yefim isn’t immortal yet, but you and I can still give that to him. Come on, Misha. We both want the same thing. I hear you, that you’ve also brushed with death and that Yefim saved you. You don’t have to give up eternal life with him. I want to give that to you, too, immortality…” Extending his hand towards Mikael’s shoulder, Valentin’s violet eyes narrowed with a tender smile. “I can’t force you to do anything. It would defeat the purpose of everything we believe in. Still, dear Misha, think about it. I’ve seen the other side and I just know I can find the way to grasp immortality by the tail, giving it to you and Fima as my gift. Come back to me when you want.”

Stepping back, the air scarcely could find its way into Valya’s barely-moving lungs. It was as if the wind deep within had died down and there was only stillness and void. As the white seeker turned to leave, he looked back with a languid slip of his tongue.

“I’ll be waiting for you.”

Mikael stumbled backward in surprise as the other boy finally let go of him. It had been something he had wanted with a strong conviction. So why was there a twinge of something sadder within his hollow chest? Mikael's brows furrowed as he grabbed at his shirt. An attempt to distract his mind from the very thing that was eating away at him. It was hard work to pretend he didn't feel the way he did. Something he was not used to. Not even in the slightest. It wore him down, and an overwhelming feeling of wanting to escape raged war across his very being. The boy felt tired of how badly he wanted to fall back into Yefim. Let him take the lead once more...but he wasn't here right now. Two pawns did not create a king, and he felt the wrongness of the entire situation.

The boy stood upright once more his face cold as the harsh winters of his hometown. Listening to the boy speak about being brought back hardly made any sense to him. Only a god could bring someone back. Not a muggle and definitely not with their 'ways' as Valentin described it. Was this all a ploy to get him to forgo his faith? His faith in Yefim? It seemed so wrong and horrid to even think that way. To even doubt that his god was anything but that. Mikael frowned deeper as the boy pulled closer to him. Taunting him with their closeness. His breath came out labored reminiscent of his struggle to free himself only moments earlier, and he vaguely wondered if the boy could hear how loud it was. Sweat dripped down his back, his sweater sticking to him oddly, something he always struggled with was dressing appropriately for the weather. It seemed so much easier to just be hot. He hardly felt warm enough any other time. It was elusive and he could not help but crave it.

Mikael blinked shaking his head. "No...he saved me. You don't understand." he said his voice quieter than he would have liked. How could the other not understand? Yefim was already a god. If he wasn't a god...that means...that means...everything was a lie. Mikael swallowed thickly his brows furrowing upwards in a distressed look. Everything he was told. His teachings, his promises. Everything would be for naught. Mikael took a small step backward his shoulders caving in towards his center as Valentin's hand appeared to make an attempt to touch him once more. Though, when the other halted it brought him to a pause. Maybe that was why he understood what the other was doing before the words escaped him. The realization felt icy. In a singular moment, he felt like a kid again trapped in the icy watery hell.

Mikael's brows furrowed together as he watched the boy drift away from him. Pulling away, untangling the threads of muck that held them together. Cutting him away. The boy's breath caught in his throat as he watched the other turn and leave. Valentin's words did nothing to alleviate the harsh ache in his throat. No words would make their way out of his throat as he watched the other boy walk away. Mikael's eyes widened as he stared after the boy. He grabbed at his mouth as he swore he saw long blond hair replace the boy's short white hair. A wounded smile on her lips was burned into his retinas as she promised to be home. Why had he not stopped her? Stopped him? Why was he so okay with watching them walk into the darkness? Slowly being eaten away as they disappeared from view. Never to be seen again. Well...almost. Even when they had found her she had been hidden inside a box. Hidden away from him once more.

Mikael slowly stumbled back into the tree using it as support as he stared after his Mother. After Valentin. A part of him wanted to cry out for the boy to stop and come back. Cry that he would do anything to keep him from walking away, but Mikael stood motionless. His face was unreadable. Valentin wasn't his Mother. That bridge was already destroyed beyond reckoning. Begging the other to stay wouldn't bring back his Mom. By god how much he hated that knowledge. As he watched Valentin disappear from view he slowly sat down. It seemed that the bridge between them was starting to decay. Another bridge to fall down the cliffside. Maybe if he was lucky no one would be on it when it falls this time. Maybe if he was lucky it would be him rather than Valentin. Mikael brought his hand up, carding his hand through his dark hair. His Mother decided to leave him for the stars. A fact that could not be undone. Mikael glanced up towards the sky, and wondered if she was happier up there.
