When Dee rolled her eyes, it felt like somebody stabbed a knife in Samantha's heart. The older girl didn't care at all about her feelings... Samantha quickly took a step back when Dee poked her in her chest, crushed by the words. The things that were being said were true, making them only more painful for the young girl to hear. The brunette wanted to be able to blame it all on Dee, she didn't want to be a part of the problem.

Her captain's words only made the young girl madder. Every single word the other girl spoke was nonsense! Samantha didn't think she had ever seen Dee this angry. There was only an ice gaze visible in the older girl's aquamarine eyes. Not even a faint shadow of a smile on her face. The next words were hissed to the young girl, who was still in shock at her own words. Every time Dee opened her mouth it felt like somebody ripped Samantha's heart out. Was she a naive, self-righteous bootlicker without any amount of backbone? Did Dee really think about her like that?

Speechless, for one of the first times in her life, Samantha watched her friend walk away. Tears streamed down the girl's face as Dee disappeared from her view. All the things that had just been said repeated themselves in her mind. Her heart pounded loudly in her head, making it impossible for her to think straight. Falling down on her knees, Samantha hid her tears-covered face in her hands as she cried loudly.

The young girl had no idea how much time had passed since Dee had left her, nor did she know if she was the only one left in the dueling club. Honestly, she didn't even care. Even if half of the school saw her crying, she wouldn't care. She just wanted her friend back. Her friend? Were they even still friends? With that painful thought, the young prefect gathered her stuff and slowly made her way back to her dorm, which she luckily didn't share with Dee. Samantha didn't think she could handle seeing Dee again today.

Dee's steps echoed as she stepped out into the hallway, but even over the sound of shoes on stone, it was hard to ignore the heartbreaking sobs behind her. She paused for a moment, just out the door, listening. There was an odd, tearing ache in her own chest, and for a moment, she considered turning around. Trying to make it right.

But what was she even going to do? Even if she knew what she wanted to say, she wouldn't have a clue about how to phrase it. When it came down to it, she didn't feel sorry for what Sam wanted her to apologise for, she just felt guilty about leaving a friend she cared for sobbing on the cold floor of the duelling room, and despite it all, she didn't have it in her to fake an apology. Not even for Sam.

It was the kind of helplessness that always befell her when faced with emotions, any time quick wit and a sharp tongue were not the right tools to approach the situation. Going back would only lead to her staring at Samantha helplessly, and ending up saying something blunt and hurtful that made everything worse. She'd been through this too often.

So instead, Dee started walking again, tears prickling in her own eyes.
