A Helping Hand PV Jack Ace finished

Alma nearly collapsed out of happiness when Jack had complimented her eyes. What a sweet thing thing to say! He must be a wonderful friend!

“I love green!” she giggled. “My favorite’s yellow! What a coincidence, huh?” She looked down at her yellow Hufflepuff robes, much like Jack had done with his own.

He leaned closer and lowered his voice as if he was about to tell her a secret, and Alma got increasingly more nervous for what he was about to say. Was it bad? Did he not want to hang out again? Did she have something stuck in her teeth?

He mentioned visiting Hogsmeade and her internal alarm bells rang in her head. she was well aware that only third years and above were allowed in Hogsmeade, and anyone who had ever met Alma would tell you that she was a strict rule follower, not a rule breaker. Why, she nearly jumped back in shock and was about to protest when she suddenly stopped herself.

Maybe she could go. There was something…alluring about Jack. Maybe it was the fact that she always surrounded herself with people just like her and he seemed to be the polar opposite. Maybe it was that he strangely made her face heat up and her heart beat a little faster with only a handshake. Or maybe it was just that he sweetly complimented her eyes.

She didn’t know. What she did know, was that if she was going to do something rebellious, she’d want it to be with someone like him.

“Oh…well alright, fine.” she reluctantly gave in to her internal thoughts. “But if we get caught, you owe me five chocolate frogs from Finnegan Conner. He’s selling them, you know! Now come on, we can read that book over at this table!”

She happily skipped over to the table she was sitting when Jack first walked up to her, her book still laying neatly on the hard wood. She was ecstatic. Meeting a kind new person and being lucky enough for them to want to hang out again? She felt as if she had won the lottery!

She sat down and patiently waited for Jack to open up the book.

Jack jumped with excitement when she reluctantly agreed. A wide smile spread across his face. “Oh you won’t regret this, Alma! It’ll be so much fun!” He had not expected her to say yes, she didn’t seem like someone who usually broke the rules. But he was very happy that she’d make an exception this time. “Finnegan Conner you say? I know that guy! But he’ll have to find customers elsewhere because we aren’t getting caught. We’ll be as quiet as two mice! Don’t you worry.” He crossed his arms proudly. “Not to brag or anything I’m very good at being sneaky. Quite the experienced rule breaker actually.”

He let Alma lead him back to the table where their interaction had begun. As they walked Jack suddenly remembered why he originally went to the library. He was supposed to get that Herbology book back to Lilly. It had been a while now and she was probably starting to wonder where he had gone. Jack considered for a moment to excuse himself and leave. But he quickly decided that he didn’t care enough. If Lilly wanted the book that urgently she’d just have to come get it herself. Jack simply shrugged it off and sat down next to his new friend.

He opened up The Island of Dr. Moreau for the second time that day. He wasn’t all too eager to get back to reading, but his excitement for their upcoming Hogsmeade trip was enough to keep him motivated.
