Colin laughed at his own silliness, and was truly thankful Clair didn't just turn away and leave. He wondered at that. They hadn't met before, except at the race, and while he'd thought about her a lot since the race, Colin couldn't quite understand why she came over or why she stayed. He shrugged as she returned his apple and sat with his friends.

Colin sat down as well and, eating the apple, a curious sense of calm came over him. It was strange. He felt like a hand touched him, steadied him. He shook himself like a dog and felt much better for it! And Colin began to focus on the others around him again.

"So, Finn! Show us what you got! What kind of wand did you end up with? And you too, Alma! What wand did you get? You didn't leave it somewhere, did you? You should always have it with you! Here, let's see what my Seanmamó gave me." He began to open up the package his great-great-great grandmother had given him. He also shifted his glance towards Clair's books. "Do you like reading, Clair? Um. I love to read! What books have you got? Heheh! Looks like half the library!" He blushed slightly, rubbing the scars on his neck.

As he undid the strings and wrapping papers, Colin revealed what was within. Plainly visible was a letter, an ancient looking book and a very old Hogwarts robe. He set the letter and the book aside for the moment to look at the robe. It was old, and had many beautifully stitched patches in it. Several were sewn with very dark green threads. The robe itself was was in Slytherin colours, but there were Ravenclaw accents. Turning to Quinn and the others, he said: "Do you think I should try it on!?"

He picked up the letter and read: "Colin lad, the book I expect you recognise, as you were the one to reunite its pieces. Go on and show it to that far seeing friend of yours! The robe was once your Uncle Colin's. You were named for him and it's time you have this. Your uncle of course was a bird and his sweetie a snake. I reversed the colours for you, and if you need to know why, just look up."

Colin sat back perplexed. He looked up at Clair. "Clair, what do you suppose that means?"

Clair watched, "I'll always remember getting my wand, it was so much fun! Did you two enjoy getting your wands?" She asked, looking towards Alma and Finn, who she guessed were first years.

She smiled at Quinn. "Quinn, correct? I think we met last year." She nodded, "How has the summer treated everyone?" She leaned back in her seat, rather cozy despite her awful outfit.

She nodded, "Heck ya! It's like my favourite thing, besides Horses, sheep, cows, ponies, goats, learning, animals, baking, going for walks. I guess I have a lot of favourite things!" She laughed softly.
Her main passion was for Animals and learning, Reading was just a bit less then learning, and Baking and going for walks were the runners up.

She took a bite of her food, and listened to Colin talk, he had a Scottish Accent and she found it soothing, it was like her Grandmother's which she now thought of as home, even if she did not want to.

"I have mostly spell books, I've got this book from my sister, it's for third years, I'm gonna see if I can learn anything from it this year. It'd be so cool if I knew third year charms in my second year!" She commented.

"Hmm, My guess would be that you've got a crush on someone, and their a Ravenclaw." She said, figuring that that could be the only reason. "I don't know why you'd have to look up though, maybe the roof has your answer?" She looked at the roof. "nope, I'm blind and don't see a thing." She shrugged.

Everything at the table felt like it was happening all at once. Colin was tripping all over himself once Clair had showed up, rolling an apple across the table and face red as a tomato. Obviously, he had an infatuation with the girl. He seemed to be incredibly enthusiastic about…well, everything. She couldn’t imagine getting that worked up about a crush.

Finnegan seemed like a very nice boy, and seemed like the one she could most get along with, seeing as they were the only first-years at the table. She smiled warmly at him when he complimented her drawings.

“Thanks! Yeah, I drew them myself, been practicing a lot. What type of stuff do you draw?” she asked, trying to block out the multiple other voices in the room as she zeroed in on this one conversation. It was getting a bit overwhelming in the hall.

“Oh, I don’t remember the exact details of it. Something about Dragon wood and Chestnut heartstring- no! Chestnut wood and Dragon heartstring! Ollivander seemed like a lovely man, I really liked his shop.”

“It is in my trunk upstairs though, unfortunately.” she answered Colin’s question. “I’ve gotta get everything packed for the train ride.”

"Oh, I draw a bit of everything," he shrugged. He wasn't about to admit he liked drawing knights doing battle with great monsters best.

After Alma had answered Colin's barrage of questions it was Finnegan's turn to be interrogated. "Chestnut and phoenix feather core," he answered plainly before turning to Alma. "I thought Mr. Ollivander was a bit creepy." The man's piercing gaze had seared itself into his mind, he didn't think anyone had ever stared at him that intently. And though the old wandmaker had only said it once, Finnegan doubted he'd ever forgot the wandmaker's adage.

The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Conner...

"I'm not sure I'd call it fun," Finnegan said pensively, though he supposed perhaps it was different for children that had always known they were witches or wizards. It'd been odd, a bit terrifying, like a dream he'd only just remembered having dreamt before. "More like, growing back a limb you never knew you'd been missing."

"Apparently chestnut's good for 'erbology, but I've never gardened before, or for fliers, but I've never flown before either." Nor did he imagine he would anytime soon, the prices of the brooms on display at Quality Quidditch Supplies were prohibitively expensive. That left just care for magical creatures, another thing chestnut wands were famed for, but Finnegan had already discovered that he wouldn't be taught the subject for another two years.

He stiffled a laughter at the garish, old robe Colin pulled from the wrappings, it looked like it had seen better days to him. The letter that accompanied it didn't make a whole lot of sense either and Finnegan began to feel increasingly confident that the entirety of Colin's family was slightly mad.
