Truth or Dare — Group THREE  Summer Camp '22

Truth or Dare. A fun summer game compared to the alternative.. spin the bottle. The brunette shivered at the unpleasant memories of that game from the previous summer. Getting directed to the area where it was held, she'd make her way over. Finding a comfortable and vacant spot on the board she'd sit, cross-legged and wait for the chatter to die down before listening for her name. Being on a boat and playing the game was a bit.. sketchy to say the least. As it quieted down truths and dares were given out to people, names were shared and people started to shuffle around and match up with her. Who she was given was a girl by the name Esmeray and she had to think of a truth. On the other hand, her dare would be announced to her by another girl, Lillian.

Staying in her spot a sudden spark of a voice startled her, making her shoulders rise and tense up momentarily. Hearing her name she'd try to weave her way over to the voice. Getting within ear-shot she heard her dare be given and her heart leapt into her throat.

"You want me to-- o-okay, uhm I'll be doing backstroke cause I don't want to get my face wet.. tell me if I bump into anything."

Yes, back stroke because she didn't want her face to get wet. More like if her entire body was submerged she would have a panic attack but she couldn't tell her that. It was her first dare of the game and she wasn't going to chicken out just because she couldn't see OR swim. If she was going out, this was an acceptable alas a bit idiotic of a way to do it.

Stepping back from the girl she'd feel her heart move from her throat to her chest, pounding like a hammer. She hadn't swam in who knows how long let alone with her vision being.. well limited to say the least. Taking a deep breath she'd turn around and nearly slam into another figure.

"Ah shoot sorry! Pardon me." Pausing she'd realize she still hadn't found the person she was supposed to give a truth to. Usually truths would be more private but alas she had to take a dip in the water and didn't have much time to spare. Cupping her hands together she'd holler.

"Esmeray your truth is to tell me one of your most embarrassing stories once I finish my swim, heaven knows I'll need a distraction from freezing to death!"

And with that, the girl swung her legs over the side of the boat and overboard she went. Never to be seen again

Courage did not come easily to Leonard Oaksworth. Other predominantly positive traits indeed followed in its path, conspiring and coalescing to skive off from any social responsibilities, but courage and its synonymous sidekicks were perhaps most urgently needed when it came to the upcoming activity of truthful and/or daring affairs. While he had strived for a more optimistic outlook to be his overall lens of the summer, he doubted that he’d last to the end of their school break without the spyglass being broken by a doubloon straight in the socket. Truth or Dare was, by all means, among the most terrifying pastimes known and considered amusing for whatever reason, and it was right up there with Talking to People and Being with People when it came to Leonard’s epic scroll of fears, and therefore he was going to clasp at courage with all his might for the entire game and have fun. Considering his body resembled a scrawny raft much more than a grand galleon ship, such may have been a harder task than expected.

Still, he went onto, grateful to have gotten off the rowboat and onto what would now function as solid land. Dressed to buccanneringly impress without stifling himself in the natural summer heat, he’d selected a simple dress shirt and trouser combination that was folded at each cuff. He didn’t want any of his attire to snag on the ship, and even less did he want to appear pretentiously naïve to the relatively large group of people who would join him in the mighty vessel of mightier shenanigans.

Wants were not of importance in Truth or Dare, however, for playing with a–as he could count–crew of sixteen, only one of which he could even call himself acquainted with, made survival his only need. It was maybe possibly a little dramatic to say that survival was his only need when there had ostentatiously been measures put in place to ensure nobody would be liable to harm, yes, and even so Leonard suspected it would only be praxis for half the people present to be liable to harm. He placed his slip into the cannon as soon as he could, lurking near the mainmast after a quick peering around the corners of their seaside quarters. A small part of him, the part that wholly ignored the fact that any dares involving a crow’s nest would definitely involve some acrobatics in tow, hoped that the matchups would offer a moment up there, a period of time where he could rest from whatever humiliation had happened during the dare and observe everyone else’s self-inflicted suffering.

The cannon fired, to which he flinched before receiving his assigned participant. Well, he might’ve not had the most courageous start to the game proper, but he considered his selection of dare to be. Opening the paper up, he found this assigned participant to be Kim Sato, an unfamiliar cognomen that he could have heard around hallways but hadn’t said himself. At the very least, the name didn’t belong to anyone in his dormitory, thus securing a point for safety off the bat.

He waved in silent greeting to his cannon-chosen partner in contested crime, finding the other’s face to be a little more familiar than his name. He would’ve been lying if he considered Sato’s face to be the most striking feature in his treasure chest of curiosities, though, scanning a wealthy wardrobe’s worth of accessories shining off ears and wrists. As Sato spoke, he remained quiet, waiting, watching, and preparing his own dare for the boy. He ran a hand through his hair at the unwanted present that was his dare. Burned into his memory, irony at its finest: his trust broken as his head went deeper into the water of the Great Lake against his will, liquid rushing into his ears and the darkest blues suffocating his eyes. And now, what, he was expected to risk repeating that twenty times over while blindfolded? He cleared his throat, wanting to make sure his tone was calm, playful, normal. He only half succeeded at these goals.

Well, Kim Sato, I’m not exactly the most athletic student in Hogwarts, but at least this,” he held up the silken blindfold, shaking it slightly in a sporting show of agreement. After all, what febrile degree of cowardice would he have to be struck by in order to decline during the very first round? “Is a good deal more flattering than a pair of eyepatches.

As for your dare, I’d love to keep with the pirate theme everyone’s got going on. I dare you to sing a sea shanty that’s at least one minute long at the top of your lungs.” He smirked, caring not for the quality or lack thereof of whatever song he might’ve mentally summoned in the other boy. He hadn’t any clue about the other’s singing skills (or, again, lack thereof), but the belief that it would result in spectacularly embarrassing enjoyment either way remained. If Sato was in possession of the most mellifluous vocal melodies known to mankind, he and whoever else was in the other’s lungs’ volume vicinity would be treated to a miniature concert to bolster their swashbuckling spirits. If Sato sounded like a dying toad screaming as it strangled someone scratching their nails against a chalkboard, he could jump as fast as he could in order to fulfil the dare and elegantly dive into the floaty-infested water to muffle such horrid sounds until the next cannon assignment came about.

Oh, and you can sing one of those Celtic classic shanties or make one up, that part’s up to you,” he elaborated quickly afterwards. Even as a technical member of the Celtic nations who very much appreciated its classical mythology, he hadn’t devoted any of his scarcer and scarcer yet free time to learning shanties from its various cultures, but perhaps hidden up Kim Sato’s immaculate white sleeve would be a fiddle and a tune brought straight from the golden age of piracy. He wouldn’t quite be able to bear witness to Sato’s expressions as he sang, if he chose to sing at all, so the only way he’d be able to figure out which had been selected was deducing how authentic its lyrics were.

With another wave of his hand, this time in farewell, Leonard set off towards the gangplank. The wind, the walk to potential damp doom, or the personal woes brought back by the precarious plank upon which he was to be physically active may have sent many a shiver up and down his timbers, but he had just enough courage to carry on forth. Not without mentally deciding that he wasn’t choosing dare again, obviously.
Actions: Accepting the dare, going to the gangplank.

Reena was much more excited for truth or dare, where she got to do fun and exciting things. Less physical contact was involved, unlike spin the bottle.
Reena enjoyed doing something irrational, something out of the line sometimes because knowing it could get you in trouble somewhere gave her a certain thrill. And that is why she chose dare. She looked around in awe at the ship, running her hands on the wood and looking at the water. She was amazed at the work they put into this.

She liked how it was like pirate ships, she really liked the theme. It was cool, and fun. She might paint some pirate themes later if she got into the mood. She headed to the cannon and watched what others did first. She figured it out and she looked at the name she got. Cassius. Who was that? It was a cool name. They chose dare though! "Cassius?" when she found the person she waved. "right. Uh, so I dare you to
Spin around 10 times fast and then try and walk in a straight line."
it wasnt too bad for the first round, nothing too crazy. Once the person did the dare, reena gave them a thumbs up.

When the person who got her name gave her the dare, reena would do it and then put her name in for another dare.

Kim hadn't known what dare he'd get from his partner.

He didn't even know who his partner would be until Leonard spoke, giving him his dare and Kim raised a brow.

"Huh. Ironic we got eachother as partners!" The dark haired boy remarked and couldn't hide the smirk that came to his lips as he thought about the dare. Well, it worked out in his favor that Leonard didn't know him. Or else he'd have never given Kim that easy of a dare. "Your wish is my command, mate." He told him with a grin. Now, to choose a song to delight the eardrums of all those present at the time. Kim wasn't entirely sure what the boy meant by Celtic sea shanty, it wasn't really a term he was familiar with and he also didn't have a secret pirate fetish.

So the topic was a bit difficult, as he didn't know what to do. However, he did know it had to be pirate related, so perhaps that would do. He considered for a few seconds. Pirate related... and then it hit him. During his first year, Faye Simmons had encouraged him to explore more muggle related entertainment, including books and these moving pictures known as MoveEes. The latter seemed similar to wizard photographs but different at the same time. He still wasn't used to any of it. At any rate, because of Faye, Kim had seen a pirate MoveE, which had pirate songs.

He'd do that first song as his dare.

But first, Kim needed an outfit and some props to use. When he did something, he went all out to do it.

Perhaps it was the perfectionist in him. Kim's current white outfit was very light and clung to his body well. Therefore, he could don any kind of outfit on top of it and not have to worry about things looking bulky on him. He went over to the chests and rummaged through them until he found a pirate outfit and a fake sword prop. Once he'd put the outfit on, Kim grabbed hold of the sword prop and thrust it up into the air in front of him. And then he burst out into song, his voice being quite good. A lot of people had praised the boy on his singing whenever he sang before.

Even though Kim himself didn't think he was anything special. But that still didn't stop him from singing as often as he could do so. He'd even joined a few clubs at Hogwarts that specialized in music and singing. The dark haired boy's performance was elaborate and over-the-top cheesy but that was the whole point of it. This was a game where you were supposed to have fun and not take things too seriously, right? Kim continued to sing and moved around the ship all over the place as he did the entire song, even though he only needed to do at least 1 minute for the dare.

Eventually, the song came to an end and Kim finished with a flourish.

As Serena got into the longboat, she thought about how much fun she had had playing Truth or Dare at last year’s summer camp. The fourth year was excited to be playing it again today, and she was even more excited when she saw that the camp’s pirate theme had continued with the game being played on a pirate ship.

After finally docking at ship number three, Serena climbed aboard the ship deck and observed her surroundings. She noticed the snack table over by the bow of the ship, which was good if she got hungry later.

Serena also spotted the small canon in the middle of the ship. She watched as it spat out a piece of paper towards a student. So that must be where they got assigned who to ask a question or give a dare to. Serena walked over and stuck her hands out, waiting until the canon spat a piece of crumpled paper into her hands.

Opening the paper up, Serena read the name of the person she was given. Bubba McGarry… The name didn’t seem familiar to her, so he was most likely in a year younger than her. She began to look around to see if she could spot him when she overheard a boy introduce himself as Bubba.

She walked over to him. “Are you Bubba McGarry? I’m Serena; it’s nice to meet you!” She introduced herself with a gentle smile.

“So you’ve picked truth…hmm… Since we’ve just met, how about I ask you a question to get to know you better. What’s one thing you wish people knew about you?”

Della was looking forward to playing truth or dare. It was a straightforward game—and at this point, she thought that no one could come up with crazier stunts or questions than some of the things that happened to her in her first year at Hogwarts.

What she did not expect was the backdrop. They had to board a ship to play the game, which was enchanting. Della had thought she had seen enough magical decor to not be in awe, but being "at sea" like this was still novel to her. Maybe the magical world would always still find a way to surprise her.

At the center of the ship was a cannon. Their instructions were to receive their target from it. Della received a truth for a Serena Bowen. That was somewhat familiar—maybe she had heard at quidditch name. On the other side of cannon, she heard an older girl say her name was Serena. She was pretty—and her demeanor seemed very kind as she gave out her question to her target.

What did Della want to know about this person? Was the point of the game to ask something juicy? Or should she keep it friendly? The deck was already alive with people completing dares, but Della couldn't hear any of the questions to get the vibe of the group. So she prepared herself and walked up to the senior Hufflpuffl.

"Uh, hi, Serena, right? I have to give you a truth question. Um, what is the worst grade you've ever received?"

Just as he finished giving Felix his marching orders Bubba heard his name, he turned around and saw an older Hufflepuff that he knew by sight but not by name walking over to him. He noticed she had captivating blue-green eyes, they offset her wavy blonde hair nicely. She had a very warm smile and introduced herself to him. "Hello, Serena, it's lovely to meet you!" Bubba replied with a wide smile of his own.

He listened to her truth for him - one thing he wished people knew about him better - and immediately started formulating an answer. He furrowed his brow in concentration as he tried to think of a good one. He could've given a straight, useful answer but that was no fun. What silly thing could he recall from his past that he could entertain her with? He thought back to his days of muggle schooling. Yes, that was a good one! He smiled at the memory before he began, "Okay, so most people know I'm a half-blood, muggle father, with mother, so I went to muggle school until I went to Hogwarts," he began, talking very animatedly and trying to do the story justice. "So my last year before I went to Hogwarts I made this bet with a friend of mine, we had a world civ test and ironically whoever scored lowest had to do a dare."

"So," He said pausing for breath but continuing on with a brisk pace, "He got a 98, I got a 97 - I know I couldn't believe it either - so we had this class pet. It was just a guinea pig, Rodney. Rodney was in a cage by the window. We knew where the keys were because every day one of us had to open the cage and feed it." He paused again, this was one of his favorite stories and he never got a chance to tell it, he didn't want to flub the lines. "So my friend, Owen, dares me to let Guinea Pig out and put it in the teacher's desk. After school was over I slipped in after the teacher went to the bathroom, opened the cage, and put the guinea pig in the bottom drawer of her desk. I figured the teacher would be back and left it open a crack to let some light in. I mean I didn't want Rodney to freak out, that'd just be cruel." He paused again, ready for the big finish, "Well, the teacher didn't come back for about 20 minutes and in that time Rodney managed to rip through an entire textbook. They were picking up shreds of paper all over the place for a couple of weeks." He laughed heartily at the happy memory. "I don't know if that's what you were looking for but certainly not many people know that. No one at the school ever found out."

Serena made her way through the grounds in excitement. She really enjoyed having the opportunity to get outside of her tent, take a break from training and just meet some new people. Normally, she would have loved hanging out in her tent and being lazy. However, things were kind of tense with some of her tentmates and it was just unbearably awkward. As a result, she had been training far too hard in the past two weeks. It was good as she was probably getting ready for her broom racing match coming up but she did not want to be too tired to play. Or worse, injured.

This provided her with a nice break. Making her way to the ship, she found a small canon that was surrounded by players. With that, she loaded her own name into the canon and waited. It threw a piece of paper back towards her shortly after. Opening it up, she read the name. Lilith Ward. It was not a name she recognised but then again, looking around, Serena noticed that she did not really know many people. It was better this way. She could meet new people without the awkwardness and tension. She knew a few though - Annie was here, as was Felix!

Before she could really greet them, she heard Felix, "H-hey you uh... okay there?" Serena asked him with a little poke to his arm to get his attention, teasing softly at the fact that he was yelling aggressively. It did not really bother her. If he had always been like this, she never really noticed. Mostly because they shared a mutual dislike of a certain relative of hers and bonded over that.

Grabbing some props of her own, wearing a pirate coat and putting a stuffed parrot onto her shoulder - with her brown rat on the other shoulder, after some adjustment. She also put on a hat over the bandana that she already had on, which already covered her ears. With those things done, Serena was ready. Walking around, she tried to find her person, "Lilith? Hey, are you Lilith?" She'd asked people as she approached them, apologising if they were not. She'd stop when she found her partner, "Oh! Hi! I'm Serena. I got you and it said you wanted a truth, so my question to you is uh... if you were in a musical, what song would you sing?" She asked her, wondering if there were any songs that she resonated with or really liked.

It was a simple question but she was not about to get deep or ask anything embarrassing. She knew most people liked doing things like that but she did not even know the girl! She had no intention of doing that to her!

Now that Lillian had given her own dare, she was a bit calmer, not racking her brain for prospective truths and dares, but still stressed about her own. Finally, she heard a voice calling for Lilith Ward. Close enough, she figured, and raised her hand to get the girl's attention. "Um, do you mean Lillian?" she called out. Sure enough, the girl gave her a question to answer. Lillian breathed a sigh of relief. Even though she'd played this game countless times before, she was always at least a little bit stressed about her questions.

This question did surprise her, though. The question was a bit boring, so not a lot of people were paying too much attention. She was glad this girl had decided to start off with a simple, easier question. "I don't really know of many musicals," she said with a sheepish giggle, stalling. "I guess I'd sing Maybe This Time?" Her voice rose up at the end like a question, even though it was a statement. It felt right. Hopeful in a good way. Besides, she loved the vocals, although she definitely didn't have a strong enough voice to manage them.

That truth had been easy enough, so she figured she'd opt for a dare to spice things up. Hopefully, it would be just as simple as her truth had been.
