Come Here Often?

Wyatt tried to process everything Alec was saying with a deep breath. Not completely trusting his balance right now, he stumbled backwards and leaned against the door, though that wasn’t much of a help either. The want, nay, the need to fall to his knees was threatening to overpower him and it was only by some miracle that Wyatt remained upright. He tried to steady his breathing.
Alec was telling Wyatt about a lot of huge things. Suddenly being left by a parent with no line of communication? Packing up and leaving as a response to neighborly concern? Sleeping on a park bench? Jesus, how did Alec travel besides walking!? Did he hitchhike? Why would he take that risk? Being picked up by a stranger? Wyatt’s mind was flooded with all these horrific possibilities that Alec was so unbelievably lucky to have avoided. The entire situation… a nightmare!
“I really don’t think I’m fussing more than I need to, you could have been,” Wyatt cut himself off, there, noticing Jackie. He felt unusually awkward. Like, way more awkward than he would usually feel around Alec, and it was making him frustrated. “You could have gotten into a lot of trouble. Do you have like… erm… living stuff with you? Clothes? Toothbrushes? How long will you be here?”
Of course he felt bad interrogating his friend. Still, these were important questions that needed answering. A little voice in his head was telling him to back off and give Alec space, mostly to get the quiet time he desperately needed to process (multiple) things, however selfish that may sound. A lot of things were slipping and sliding around his brain, at the moment.
For example, why was Wyatt so thrilled Alec was here? A part of him was biting back a smile at 80% of the words he said. Another part, however, was angry. Angry with Alec for giving him no warning, for messing up the whole school vs. home division, for showing up this bloody week, and for bringing Jackie along on this journey of leaving home cause you think your well-meaning neighbors are spooky. And, sure, Alec probably knows his neighbors better than Wyatt did, but still!
“I’m sorry that I’m coming on so strong, I just wasn’t expecting you and I’m a bit… what, worried?” Against his better judgment, Wyatt spoke from the heart. Whatever that was. “If there’s anything you need, really. I am here. Down the hall, in 20. And if either of you needed someone, I don’t know how helpful I’d be with talking but I can always kick Elle out for a minute. Alec, thanks for being honest and stuff, I mean it. You’ve also come a long way so rest if you need to. I’ll go.”
It was unexplainable. His stomach felt a bit fluttery when Alec was in the room and he didn’t really know why. Seriously, Alec entered the room and it was like he couldn’t breathe. It was almost like he was drowning, but in a good way. In warm water. He always felt like he should be happy around Alec. It was effortless. It was also endlessly confusing. These feelings weren’t completely foreign, but they really didn’t happen around friends. Only… oh. That wasn’t possible, though. Shit, was it?
Wyatt took a step away from the door and turned to open it and get the hell out of there. He fumbled with the handle a couple times but eventually got out of that God-forsaken room. Immediately, he found himself face to face with Elle, and he accidentally slammed the door shut in surprise.
“Were you listening?”
“Oh, for sure. You a softie now?”
“Go away Elle,” Wyatt replied dismissively, practically running back to his room.
“No, you gotta tell me, Drac. Why are you nice to them and not me, eh?” She followed, of course.
