Unabashedly, she was flaunting her new skill, which made Andrew take two to register her slick transportation across the room. A sly smirk on her face, appearing quite satisfied with the expression she had elicited from Andrew at her little stunt. His denial of her question was with a straightforward aggressive no. Aurelia's gaze narrowed ever so slightly, searching his eyes for any sign the ex-slytherin was just playing coy. But she would not dwell on the topic if Andrew did not wish it, plus she wouldn't give him the satisfaction of an argument or any more tempting information she had on that name. "Well then. I suppose the name Dean Vance was just a coincidence."

Andrew neared, with his hand outstretching demanding the return of his pet, but she would hesitate to return the shiny goblet clutched in her left fist. "I'll admit, I do. I was walking past the playground, I was reminded of you and thought to visit. I still have that old remembral." Perhaps reliving such memories could shift Andrew's perspective to consider returning to Hogwarts, but Aurelia wouldn't push, after all, she had been a runaway at one point. If she hadn't been discovered, who knew how long she would have remained. "I went to a muggle school for a few months. It is drastically different - mundane."

"How old is she?" Rodents didn't live very long lives unless extended through the use of some form of magic. The witch would hover the tip of her wand on the goblet. "Avifors," she incantated. The spell working on the goblet Penelope, changing the silver into a feathered creature. Pidgeon. "She could do better with wings don't you think? Pidgeons have longer lifespans too." Now Aurelia was just pushing his buttons.

Yeah. Right. "Coincidence". Aurelia wasn't about to admit her lie, as far as Andrew believed, and he wasn't about to lower his defenses on the subject. Both of them had their guard up, poking and prodding the other for weak spots, trying to analyze the other, figure the other out, and neither were about to budge. Both were being elusive and stubborn, not wanting to be the first to give way. Of course Andrew had been curious about other Vances before, at Hogwarts, hunting for old yearbooks, none of which turned up any significant leads he might've hoped for a long-lost reunion. But he kept that detail to himself. Silence was what he was best at, what he defaulted to. Better to divulge too little than too much, less he say something he regret, that might be used against him. Unlike Aurelia. Whether she was consciously aware of it or not, she talked too much, as she breezed over their past encounters...

"Hmph. Guess your memory wasn't so 'fuzzy' after all." He smirked, believing he had caught Aurelia in one of her past lies. Let the little bird tweet on, and she would tighten the noose around her own neck, eventually. Recalling how Aurelia had dodged the question as to how she had ended up at his place, two summers ago. How did she even find her way here, to his house, when she had never before visited, and claimed not to remember the one night she had?

He hesitated at her mention of the Remembrall and "muggle school". While perhaps flattered by the former, he was moreso confused by the latter. Did she mean when they were kids at Hillstone? His reluctance to speak was opportunity enough for Aurelia to pick up initiative again, harassing Penelope; shock on his face, mouth barely opened for words, as Aurelia transfigured the goblet into a pigeon before his very eyes. Perhaps if Aurelia had left it at reminiscing over old memories, the two might've eased into normal conversation, but of course, the troubled Gryffindor had to stir the pot, fanning the ex-Slytherin's anger hotter and hotter, until he burst. Eyes darkened with rage. He had tolerated Aurelia's blackmail, holding his pet captive, long enough.

Equal rights equal fights. His left hand shot forth, aiming to yank Aurelia's wand from her, or at least deflect the tip from casting any more damage toward him and Penelope; the bewildered pigeon quickly fluttered out of the way from the ensuing scuffle. Muggle instinct taking over - he had forgotten his own wand gripped in his other hand, and the use of Expelliarmus that might've been more effective - his left hand would grapple with Aurelia's wand while the other delivered a right hook at the pretty pureblood's face, knuckles bound to leave a mark on the girl's fair, flawless skin.

Andrew wasn't letting, and she didn't expect him to, yet she would prod and poke. They weren't quite friends, especially not after he'd pushed her into the lake, nearly drowning her about a year ago. Perhaps she was seeking retribution now, coming to pester him at his house. And the witch had crossed the line, she knew it from the very moment she held her wand against the poor little critter for the second time. The rat - now a bird, flapping its wings wildly for surely this newly bestowed physiology of an avian form came as a fright.

Andrew's expression changed in a split second as soon as the spell was cast, it was rage. A sudden step he took towards her, too fast for the agile witch to move away from the incoming attack. The impact caused her to stumble backwards, her hand instinctively lifting to her nose. A sharp shriek let out, more so at the surprise than the pain that reverberated from her nose and across her face upon contact. "Fuck," she whined, the slightest brush of the tip of her fingers to the bridge of her nose hurt; it was surely broken. The pads of her index finger met moisture of crimson red.

"What the fuck, Andrew?" Her words were more so in an exasperated query and in pain than anger. While she was usually too sophisticated for such foul language, this was an exception now that she was in quite a lot of pain. While she surely deserved it, she did not expect it. "If you wanted me to leave, you could have just said so."

"Then get out!" Andrew barked. Though anger pulsed hot every fiber of his being, his blood ran cold at the sight of hers, chilled to the bone by what he had done. The ache in his knuckles, a pinch he wasn't dreaming, realized how hard he had hit her. He had not broken his code of chivalry before. Not this far. The only other time, unsurprisingly with the same Gryffindor, when he had shoved her nearly to her death in the Lake a year ago. In the heat of both moments, Aurelia was neither witch or girl, or even a person to him, but a problem to simply be rid of. A thorn in his side to pluck out and flick away.

If all of magic was a sin, those of its world condemned to Hell, then what was the life of a wizard worth, or one sin from another, if he chose the darker path?

She'll be fine, his conscience whispered. Like he told himself the last time, staring coldly at Aurelia, as her head vanished under the Lake's churning waves.

He'll be fine. Déjà vu flashed before him. Jack Warren's face, slashed red by Diffindo. The only other occasion Andrew had drawn forth blood, casing the first shell that hardened him to the sight, as he watched the fluid leak from Aurelia's nose. He would not be moved by the same rush of fear, guilt, and sympathy as he had with Jack.

You did nothing wrong. THEY started it. THEY provoked him. He had nothing to apologize for. He had given them what they deserved. Once an accident, twice a coincidence, three times a habit. First Jack, then Aurelia... Seeds had been sewn, roots sprouted. A budding alter ego whose morals knew no boundaries and feared no consequences from the magical world. How many more incidents would feed this ugly shadow of himself until it became its own?

Having crossed that threshold, Andrew was at a loss of what to do now with Aurelia. Shout at her? Drag her out the front door? His hand had already caused enough damage. He was reluctant to touch her again, to try and get her out of his house. Recalling her allergies, maybe sicking his cats on her would do the trick…

"Everything alright in there?" A muffled voice spoke up.

His heart stopped, remembering he wasn't alone. Down the hallway from his parents' room, the scuffle had been overheard by his father. This…This was good, right? Surely his father would fix things up, understand him, rescue him from this situation? Andrew hesitated, not knowing how he was going to explain all this…

Silence, if not Aurelia's moaning, answered the concerned male on the other side of the door. A knock persisted. "Andy?"

"No," came the child's plea, in delayed response to the former question, hastening a turn of the knob and swing of the hinges, to behold a girl with a bloodied nose, and a pigeon flapping about the room.

"What in the world?" Mr. Vance stood agape. His eyes did a doubletake at the girl he soon recognized.

"She came in here!" Andrew blurted out, pointing his wand at Aurelia.

"How?"

"The window!"

"How?"

"Magic, Dad." Andrew shot a bored look, sparing his Muggle father the long story about Animagi, for now.

Mr. Vance narrowed his eyes at Aurelia. "I told you to leave," he started firmly towards her. "She was at the door earlier, asking for you," he turned briefly to Andrew, before glaring at Aurelia again. "I ought to call the police," he chided. "You are trespassing." Already he was being too kind, not marching off to the phone right away. If Aurelia were a boy, Andrew reckoned his father would have. But here she was, a girl, whose feminine charms and battered face would work some small mercy in softballing the threats uttered by the man who cared for a daughter of his own, though how Aurelia responded would determine whether those threats would follow through. "What happened here?" Concern laced his brow as Mr. Vance inspected Aurelia's nose, demanding Andrew for answers.

"I don't know, I was here, she came in, I told her to go, she wouldn't leave, then she started messing around with Pin and turning her into stuff, so I hit her," Andrew rattled out in annoyance, turning his back to shut the window and prevent Penelope from escaping. "Here, girl." Having experience with his aunt's chickens, he gingerly approached and scooped up the pigeon, catching a weirded look from his father who seemed to get the hint by not questioning it further, as Andrew walked over to the rat cage and placed the bird inside. He could undo the spell, later. Consequences be damned.

"You hit her?" His father echoed, blinking at Andrew in alarm.

"Yeah," he said lightly, unfazed. The only concern on his face, fixated on his father, whose challenging stare of disapproval then dropped all contentment in Andrew's expression. Hot shame sunk in, realizing how much of a big, bad, dumb bully he must look like right now, all smug from beating up the small and the weak. He had been taught better. Not to hit girls. Not to fight fire with fire… But weren't there always exceptions? Aurelia was asking for it. His father wasn't there!

What was done, was done. His father sighed to himself. "Alright, clean up your mess, then." He nodded to the red-speckled carpet, where Aurelia's blood had dripped, for Andrew to attend to. Aside from being part of the wrong crowd, Mr. Vance held nothing personal against Aurelia, and certainly didn't wish for her to be harmed over it, unwilling to send her off in such a raw state. "Here, darling." He gently ushered Aurelia out of the room. "Let's get some ice on that."

Really?! Andrew seethed, shooting daggers at Aurelia. He was the bad guy?! Betrayed by his own, he had been certain his father would side with him, be more furious at Aurelia. Not fall for the damsel in distress act! "We don't need any ice, Dad," he griped after them. "We have spells, remember?" Ferula, the Bandaging Charm? "She has her wand, Dad. She can fix her up, herself."

"Ice or outside," Mr. Vance said sternly, looking to Aurelia as to which option she'd choose, and raising his voice for Andrew to hear, in speaking to both. "Take your magic out of this house." Any more wand-waving today would have to be done on the porch.
