Long, smooth-grained and in a muted reddish-brown colour, the wand in the hand of Aurelia was very pleasing to the eyes. The wood of the cherry tree contributed a certain trait of regalness to its overall appealing aesthetic. A lovely wand to compliment the visage of the witch who held it. Yet for something so pretty, it certainly possessed much power. Like its holder, with sights drawn towards its beauty, such power often goes underestimated. With its core, a single phoenix feather, only attributing to its alleged potential for lethality.

Aurelia would soon find that a cherry wood wand, one that amplified the already immense might and apparent stubbornness of the phoenix feather core, was quite the challenge to control. And Aurelia liked control. But boy, was this little phoenix as stubborn as an 8-year-old. To think Aurelia considered her wand as 'forbearing' as herself when constantly met with non-compliance to perform. Perhaps it was simply a clash in personalities. Despite 5 long years together even through turbulent endeavours, there was still a lot of work between the witch and this wand to find common ground. When they do, possibly the little phoenix would finally reveal its full potential.

As Ollivander advised her 5 years ago, her 28cm cherry wood and phoenix feather wand was ideal for defensive and protective charms. And those with a clear mind and heart. While Aurelia had a fairly clear mind, her heart was on the contrary. Perhaps this was what the little phoenix was waiting on. Yet, while her wand was flexible, Aurelia was not always as open to change. Acquiring a heart clear may take a while.

28cm, rowan and thestral tail hair, supple (dream wand)

Considered as a bad omen, wands with thestral hair cores were not offered to children. While the 11-year-old Aurelia would not have acquired this wand regardless of how well it might have suited the little witch, many Notresvace witches had wands of the kind. Before their downfall, the Notresvace family ran a thestral breeding business. As per family tradition serving as a lesson for the children about the reality of mortality, those who recently witnessed death were granted customed made thestral tail hair wands, that provide a sliver of joy many looked forward to despite the solemn.

Wands with Thestral Tail Hair have faired very well with Notresvace witches and wizards, their immense power utilised in many instances, but not always darkly (think addams family not malfoy vibes please). No doubt would the core serve the last Notresvace Heir as well as it did the rest of her family. The wands complimented the eerie mysterious air those witches exuded and the presence of physical warmth within the manors was always overwhelmed by the unsettling chills.

Wands made from Rowan are noted for their believed association with the Dark Arts, more so when paired with Thestral Tail Hair, a creature between life and death. This is but the contrary. Terrifying or intimidating, Aurelia is often described as, but in truth, she is more forbearing than one might think, with her intentions rarely sinister, aversed to deliver harm when not necessary. On the other hand, defending herself or those dear, no spell - no matter detrimental - is off limits. The wood of rowan and thestral hair suits Aurelia perfectly and would definitely be more compliant than the stubborn wand she currently has.

30 cm Rosewood and Rougarou Hair flexible
Rougarou Hair was a core that listened so, so keenly. Not to words, but to the sentiments radiating within their masters. And with propelling force, they spoke loudly. Under the surface of what the Slytherin portrayed was the contrast of a sensitive soul clamouring with various insecurities. Believe it or not, within Maggie Hawkins was a turbulent concoction of emotions. As wands of Rougarou Hair reacted quickly in defence, so did Maggie with her sharp wit and tongue. Enhanced by a rigid emotional bond, upon sensing the slightest simmer, Rougarou articulates those feelings faithfully with sheer might on her behalf. It seemed almost a perfect match. Almost.

Yin and yang. It was a delicate balance that crafted the wand to perfection. The more nurturing attributes of rosewood often appeased its volatile core. They were both great listeners, but as Rougarou expressed loudly, Rosewood attended mindfully. By effectively alleviating the contentious core to prevent the sullying of her innocence and kindness, rosewood sought strength through the lovelier albeit less profound qualities within Maggie. Upon sensing the slightest distress, it served true to protect those very traits with compensation of its graceful subtlety into rougarou honed power. All in all, in the hands of Maggie Hawkins, the attractive rosewood and rougarou hair would have made an unprecedented duo with an empathetic bond serving to defend their master.


30 cm, Ash Wood and Veela Hair flexible
Although a Slytherin, Maggie's loyalty was affirmed solely by the fact that a wand of ashwood found an appeal in her. The wands of Ashwood selected only those as loyal - and stubborn - as themselves to journey with, likely a factor that stems from an insecurity of abandonment - a trait Maggie would only deceive herself not to have. The wands of Ashwood were both particular and stubborn things, and one thing was certain: while performing dutifully to serve their master's acts of courage, they were not for the brash, over-confident or arrogant. Unfortunately, Maggie was not the most subtle. While loyal Ashwood would not part, Maggie might find that her wand lacked power initially as her headstrong wand sought to rid her of those very traits it abhorred through lessons of humility.

On the contrary, Veela Hair core was one to dote on those with a narcissistic streak. The extraverted Slytherin exuded charm that wands of veela hair were drawn to. Maggie loved people, but so did she value them more when they loved her back. Bleeding jealousy and envy and a grudge held vice if a transgression was made against. Veelas were vindictive creatures, it only made sense that the core would leech on Maggie's resentment. Viciously, the Veela Hair core served to harm those that have distressed its master. It was a shame that Ashwood's stubbornness hindered its potential, and resulted in a wand with above-average power if not against those in the little veela's hit list. While both Ashwood and Veela hair was drawn to the witch, together they were an incompatible match.

31,9 cm (wild crab apple) applewood and thunderbird tail feather Bendy

It was but a small-minded notion that the wandwood from the tree bearing the most basic of fruits made a wand as mundane as a muggle. Muggle-born Andrew would know well that muggles were not all as prosaic as most wizardfolk perceived them to be - a sentimental charm that drew a wand crafted from a near-ancient branch of an wild Irish-native crabapple tree. Although a wand of Malus was far from domineering, it had its unique ideals and sure enough, rubbed an influence of its own affinity for languages magical and ancient - whether Andrew was aware or not. Airig Fedo: nobles of the wood, Crabapple trees were rooted in Celtic-irish history and Andrew might just find some fascinating ancestry in his own.

A wood of a wise tree that drew strength from righ forest grounds over centuries possessed substaintial power. Paired with the wildness and sheer might of a thunderbird, Andrew would often find his wand a struggle to control. It was fortunate that Applewoods did not favour dark magic of any kind. As Applewoods aimed high, a strong trait of Thunderbird Tail Feather core was persistence, and they made a good duo. And with attributes of a Slytherin, should Andrew Vance set his sights on something, the wand of Applewood and Thunderbird Tail Feather core might serve to pave the way towards his success if only he learns to control.

27.4cm, mayhaw and phoenix feather, fairly flexible
Mayhaw was a subspecies of Hawthorn and shared many of its characteristics of being contradictory and full of paradoxes. In a way, reflected the conflict stirring within the Slytherin with her constant fathoming of her sense of self. Fortunately, the wood of mayhaw possessed the forgiving trait of passiveness that made it ideal in the hands of Pea. Curse or to heal, it had no preference put its confidence in its master - or its more emphatic core to decide.

Unlike Mayhaw, phoenix feather was a distinctively stubborn core, perhaps even more so than Pea was. While Pea was a witch with an innate gift for magic in her veela blood, her wand's core would test her patience for a while, making for unpredictable spells. Surprisingly, phoenix feather found a liking in Pea's own independent mind similar to its own, no wonder defensive spells cast with this wand were often more dependable than any types. Overall, the wand of Mayhaw wood and Phoenix Feather may take a while for Pea to tame and personalise, but once the phoenix core accepted her, it would follow her dutifully through her years on the duelling stage and down dangerous quests and peril.

27.5 cm, black walnut and basilisk horn, stiff
Such a 'masculine' colour of dark umber did not compliment any of the veela's fashion of white elegance even in the slightest. Its appearance was a factor that, even though minor, might have aggravated her so much so that she would refuse to even give it a swirl at all. Whether the 11-year-old knew it or not, it was a good instinct - a trait that black walnut wood favoured. Similar to her current wand mayhaw, wands of black walnut were attuned to inner conflict but unlike Mayhaw, it had more independent ideals. Honesty.

Pea-elena Fowl was a very conflicted person, often reflecting and searching within herself for what was true. Indeed, what was? A kind heart and a warm sensitive soul or a cold, pompous epitome of a Slytherin? If she couldn't find her own truth, was she placing up with a lie? That was for black walnut to decide, and on its own attunement with Pea, was just as conflicted. In the hands of Pea, was unreliably sporadic in power, often working well with its powerful core for a while before it became unwilling to cast even the simplest of spells. Not at all ideal for the duelling stage.

One thing that Pea was certain about was that she abhorred her veela ancestry. Cores of veela- hair were resentful things, and fair enough was indignant those that resented them. So although unusual, the part-veela was never matched to a wand of a veela hair core. Instead, Pea's more insolent traits were incredibly appealing to a core like a basilisk horn that had a disdain towards the mundane and mediocrity. Pea, with her arrogance and ruthlessness, was perfect. The core of the basilisk would have made a substaintially powerful wand if only it weren't for the bothersome sporadicity of the black walnut.

I don't have any ollivander comments, I got my current wand from wandmaker. My own comments (that are based off the description of the wood/core in the wandmaker part) are that it's ideal for those with a fighting spirit, and those who love adventure!

At a length of only 20.3cm, Callista had quite a short wand. Indeed, the brunette was petite, both lacking in height and light on her feet. But one thing the Hufflepuff also lacked was a depth of character, an absence of layers to unravel. Truly, Callista may be all she seemed, shy but also curious and smart. There was nothing conflicted or complicated to that at all. However, with quite a strong intuition, she was no small-minded person, a trait also reflected by another physical aspect of her wand, its bendiness.

As the cherry blossom trees were distinctive to Japan and its culture, it made sense that Callista who was of part-Japanese ethnicity was matched to a wand of Cherry wood. Her own ancestral roots shared with the origins of the wandwood itself. Cherry wand was a pretty powerful wand, but also lacked much of a personality, it was quite passive, going with the flow as did Callista. What was rather peculiar was that its core was a hair of a thestral's tail. It was rarely given to children due to the notion of a bad omen, but yet Callista would find herself with one. Never having witnessed death and in the living of a lively childhood, the core was the utmost contrast of Callista individually, but what did they say? Opposites attract. And perhaps the wand was truly a bad omen. Death it said to attract.
