As Gem confessed she had been reading up in a tree before she fell out of it, Kim's brow rose. That wasn't something people tended to do often. "Is this a regular occurrence, you falling out of trees while reading?" He asked, a faint smirk on his lips, as if he found this amusing, which he actually did. How exactly did one fall out of a tree like that? "Was it a bug or insect that dislodged you?" The boy inquired.
His curiosity had become aroused by finding out what exactly had gone on and if Gem had wanted to keep this a secret, it was too late. When Kim got curious about something, he needed to satisfy his curiosity by finding out the answer before he could let it go. He was similar to a dog with a bone. If you dangled a bone before the dog, the dog would go after it until he'd chomped down on it. Time wasn't an issue for him.
Of course, Gem tried to turn the question back at him.
It was a normal thing to ask.
After all, two patients carrying on a conversation at the hospital wing were bound to wonder what had brought the other one there.
There was no reason not to tell her about his current condition. But as to what had led to that was too personal to reveal to anyone. And Kim just wanted to forget about that Puffie. Although, the last words the boy had said to him were still quite present in his mind, and he couldn't seem to forget about them. You're really out of it today aren't you? Am I that handsome, pretty boy? Kim shook his head again, trying to forget him.
He was drawn from his thoughts when Gem spoke again.
Perfect timing.
Kim let his gaze alight on her. She was a welcome distraction from his obsession with that Puffie. "It's been awhile since I've been here. What has it been, a little over 5 months now?" Kim asked himself and then nodded after having done a quick calculation. "It's the same for you too. You're a first year, right?" He asked Gem and reached up to rub the back of his neck. Sitting in one position made him feel stiff.
When she mentioned that she loved all her classes, Kim smirked. What a studious girl! But then, she was a Ravenclaw, known for their thirst towards learning and their studies. Kim actually thought there had been a chance he'd be sorted into the same House at first. But was glad it had turned out to be his mother's House. If it hadn't been the House of one of his parents, there would have been blood shed. Not really.
But you got the point.
They wouldn't have been happy with the results.
He wondered what she was, a pureblood, half-blood or muggle. As of right now, he couldn't really tell, and unless she asked him he wasn't going to bring it up. At least not at the moment. They were having a fun conversation right now and he didn't want to potentially spoil it by bringing up that particular topic of contention. "What are your favorites?" Kim asked, curious to know what ones Gem would be most interested in.
As for him, he liked them all equally, with the exception of History of Magic and the dreaded Flying Class. The former was boring, as his parents had already taught him about the history of magic at home, and the latter was downright scary as hell to him. He'd literally skipped the first day of flying class and had been tempted to skip the rest but didn't want his parents finding out. So he'd forced himself to go to future classes.
Which had been a complete disaster.
He'd embarrassed himself and stalked off, hiding behind a mask of indifference.
Without knowing it, Kim had once more drifted off into his thoughts. He shook his head, coming back to the present and cleared his throat as he let his attention return to Gem again. "Sorry, I was just thinking of an unpleasant thought again. Let's focus on us, shall we?" He said with a smile, unintentionally again using words that could be misconstrued by the Ravenclaw. The thing is, Kim wasn't usually like this.
Yes, sometimes he tended to flirt and mess around with others. But he did it intentionally, not like this. Take the time with Micheal and Juniper, classic example. The problem was when he thought about flying class and that Puffie, it was as if his brain turned off. And while it was off, he tended to do or say things that came to mind, without thinking about them. The result was what had happened between him & Gem.

Hex-#433687【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】Gemima set her lips into a thin line. "It was a really windy day. And I don't know, maybe I was leaning a little bit too far out." she finally said. She would be sure to be more careful. It had hurt enough the first time, and a second fall would be much worse...
Kim piped up again, confirming her suspicions. It was always nice to meet a fellow first year. "What are your favorites?" he asked. Ah right, the classes. Gemima immediately brightened.
"I like them all, really," she chirped. "Charms and DADA are some of my best subjects. Professor Fresnel and Professor Lécuyer are amazing teachers. I think they're both French! I actually have a friend who lives in France. And I speak some myself."
"And then, Transfiguration and History of Magic. Professor Wade is really fun to be around, too. I've been learning so many great tidbits of information." Gem finished with a sigh. She was probably one of the few at school who actually looked forward to the more boring parts of class. She even had read through the textbooks in her free time. But Kim didn't need to know that; it'd probably make her seem strange, anyways.
She noticed that Kim's eyes were clouding over again. He looked to be in deep thought. Well, she could relate to that. You needed only to look to earlier in the conversation to know that she could be easily distracted by her own thoughts as well. Then, he shook his head and cleared his throat. He turned his gaze back to meet hers, and smiled warmly.
"Sorry, I was just thinking of an unpleasant thought again. Let's focus on us, shall we?" Gemima flushed slightly, but she was prepared this time, and managed to keep a level head.
"No problem. I usually have a lot going on in my head, too," she admitted. "Some people call me spacey, but I like to think of myself as focused, instead." She furrowed her brow in thought.
"I hope it wasn't too 'unpleasant'. I'd be happy to listen if you want to get anything off your chest."【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】

Kim didn't give his own preferences, as he preferred to listen.
Unless Gem specifically asked him, he probably wouldn't tell her, at least not right now. Kim smirked as she spoke about how she was like him too. Focused rather than spacey? Yes, that covered it nicely for them. When Gem offered to be a listener for him regarding his 'unpleasant' thought, Kim regarded her for a moment. He didn't usually do this but Gem was a nice girl. Still, that could be a good cover. Make him think she was harmless. He would let down his guard a little and then she would pounce on him later. Like his parents said, everyone had an agenda. It was all how they approached their agenda that was different about people. What exactly was her agenda and how did it apply to him? He still didn't know the answer to that question. But for some reason, Gem made him want to continue talking to her. The cute little actions she did from time to time, her expressive face, and the energetic way she talked. Even if it was just about books and classes. But there was nothing wrong with that, Kim himself loved them too. A faint smile came to his lips. "No, it's fine. I was just thinking about an embarrassing moment I had out on the grounds." Kim said, brushing her concern aside. He definitely didn't want to elaborate on that, if Gem didn't know, that was a good thing. Hopefully, no one would ever know. Instead, he let his ice-blue eyes flicker over to her and gazed directly into Gem's pretty dark brown eyes. "So. Is this your first time falling out of a tree like this? Or were there multiple times before this?" Kim asked with a teasing smirk. |

"Mum made me go to some of her classes, but I wasn't especially interested until I met my friend, Castor." She smiled at the memories running through her head. She missed Castor, and she took a moment to wonder when they'd meet up again. I hope she's doing well. I should write her again soon...
Kim's next question brought her attention back to the present moment. "So. Is this your first time falling out of a tree like this? Or were there multiple times before this?" he asked, smirking. Gem flushed red again, and puffed out her cheeks indignantly. He didn't seem to want to talk about his incident at all, which was fine, but did he really have to keep ragging on her for her fall?
"No, this is the first time. I've had a few close calls before, though." She huffed. "It won't happen again." At least, she hoped it wouldn't. The treetops were some the of the only places she could get some peace and quiet in. They were perfect for the days when she just didn't feel like interacting with people.
A question crossed her mind, and then it was out of her mouth before she could rethink it. "Are you from London, by any chance? Your accent sounds a bit familiar." She'd been plenty of times with her family, and she had to admit the famous city was much more gloomy and dim than her hometown.
As she waited for a response, Gem gingerly lifted her foot and gave it an experimental flex. It still felt a little tender, but also much more stable than before. She should be cleared to leave soon, then.

Kim watched as Gem paused to tie her hair back.
"Your hair is pretty when it's down. You should leave it down." He remarked.
But he understood why she might have wanted to tie it up, it might be getting in her way right now. "Oh, you went to Paris before? What kind of classes?" Kim asked, curious.
"What did you think of it?" Paris was supposed to be the city of love. That's what he'd heard about it anyway from others. The only two places he'd ever gone had been Korea and Japan. Unless he'd gone somewhere else but just didn't remember it, as he'd been too young at the time. Gem's face flushed red and her cheeks puffed out in a rather cute manner. All that was needed to complete this adorable picture was a cute squeak. But would Kim get it?
"I see. I see." Kim commented as Gem assured him that it wouldn't happen again. "...but, never say never." He teased her and smirked. No one knew what the future held for them. Kim only hoped he'd be there to witness this next fall of hers. If only to catch her in his arms as she came down. After all, even if he was there to watch her fall, he didn't want her to get hurt if he could stop it. Gem suddenly asked him about his accent, saying it sounded familiar.

He had an accent from living in London?
Kim hadn't known this. He had originally thought people would hear his Asian accent over his London one and had been a little bit self-conscious about it. But if Gem had only heard the latter accent, maybe he didn't have anything to worry about for now. "Mm. I'm from West London." Kim told her, referring to the rich district area. It was where all the top pureblood families tended to live and where powerful connections could be made by others.
It was a very popular area that was hard to find a place to reside.
"What about you?" Kim asked, letting his eyes flicker over Gem as he waited for a reply.

Outfit: X【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】"...Thank you." Gemima replied awkwardly. She tightened her new ponytail as she struggled to keep the butterflies in her stomach under control. What was with this boy?? But then he was on to the next topic she had introduced, and she was conversationally strung along once more.
"No, that was my first time in Paris. But mum managed to find some French classes nearby our home." Gem sighed. "I just wish I'd payed a smidge more attention."
"Paris was absolutely magical, though. The architecture, food, and people are all lovely. Just standing in the streets was wondrous. Of course, the city truly comes alive at night. That's when it's best to go exploring, with all the pretty lights." Gem pouted slightly
"Mum wouldn't let me go out by myself, though."
She supposed it was understandable, it being a foreign environment, but surely a simple stroll down to le Arc de Carrousel was safe enough!
"And the art! I had mum take me to le Musée d'Orsay et le Musée de l'Orangerie. I loved visiting both. It was like walking through a dream world." Gem smiled wistfully, until Kim spoke again.
He seemed a bit perplexed by her question about his accent. "I'm from West London." he finally said, confirming her suspicions.
Gem nodded excitedly. "Oh, I've been round that area! Dad's in the Ministry, so sometimes I get to go with him on his business trips. Mum also has some friends there too, so there's also parties that I have to attend." Said parties and trips were honestly rather boring. Gem often would disappear into the shadows, and go explore the rooms and halls of the spacious flats.
"What about you?" The Gryffindor studied her curiously.
Gem blinked. "What about me?" Then it dawned on her. "Oh--right! I'm from Brighton! The, uh, seaside city." She giggled nervously, and clenched her fingers around the fabric of her skirt. She'd been so caught up with everything else they'd been talking about that she had neglected to pay attention to what was being asked of her.
"Have you ever been? It's splendid to live there. I love being so close to the beach, since swimming is one of my favorites."【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】@Kim Sato

Gem spoke about nights in Paris.
Kim's eyes brightened as she spoke of going to explore the city in all its glory at night.
"It sounds marvelous." He remarked and let his eyes flicker over the girl beside him. "Even if your mum didn't let you go out by yourself, did you go?" Kim asked with a mischievous glint in his eye as he regarded her. As Gem murmured something about the art and seemed to drift away into her own mind as she recalled them, Kim simply watched her for a few seconds. There was something fun about this girl. He'd have to go after her again.
Not like that.
But he did want to get to know her better and find out more about her.
Later on when they were both healthy again, Kim would love to chat more with her about various topics. Unless she ended up in the hospital wing from falling out of a tree again.
Kim smirked at the thought but wisely kept his thoughts under control and didn't mention them aloud to Gem. As the girl spoke about knowing the area and mentioned her dad being in the Ministry and her mom having friends there, Kim raised a brow. At first he'd thought she might have been a muggle-born. Now he was even more curious about her. Perhaps his initial impression had been wrong? "I take it you're a pureblood too?" Kim asked Gem.
She hadn't given him a last name but at the same time he didn't want to ask right now.
Because she would most likely ask for his too.
And he didn't want to give it to her as she obviously didn't know him.
The last thing he wanted was for her to change her tune once she knew who he was. There had been others who had wanted to be his friend once they knew his surname and had pretended to truly be interested in him. Only to ask for his help in the end. Some of them even had parents who worked at the Ministry and had asked Kim to help their parents get a better position. The Satos literally were very powerful and influential in the pureblood circle.
Everyone wanted to be on their good side. Many purebloods, wizard-borns and even some of the half-bloods wanted to get hooked up by them. In the pureblood community, everyone knew the Sato family name. Out of all the types, Kim's parents preferred purebloods and wizard-borns over the alternatives. At least the wizard-borns came from a long line of wizards. Even if they had a muggle somewhere in their ancestry it would have been awhile.
They could forgive this.
Compared to the others, wizard-borns were much preferable to them.
Gem's confusion about his question about where she lived made Kim raise a brow. The girl was a little ditzy too but he kind of liked that about her. It made her adorable.
"Oh really? I love the seaside. You like the sea and the ocean?" Kim asked. He hadn't really been to the ocean in quite some time. Hopefully, he'd get to go again sometime in the future. Maybe when the jobs of his parents calmed down a little more. Or during later years when he learned how to apparate on his own. Unlike many who would have wanted to go with someone, Kim was content to go on his own. "I think I have been there once."
"Maybe twice. But it was a long time ago. I do want to go there again in the near future if possible." He remarked and nodded when Gem said she loved to swim. "Swimming is a really fun sport to do. I used to do it for a short time back in the past. But I did so many things I can't remember how long I did it for." Kim said with a shrug of his shoulders. Back then he'd been quite the busy little bee, that was for sure.

Outfit: X【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】Kim seemed quite interested in what she had to say. Gemima wriggled anxiously under his piercing blue gaze. She blinked at him as he slipped into another one of his profound, thought heavy silences. Those seemed to happen quite often. She supposed she understood, though. One's brain could be a very complex and distracting place.
"I think I have been there once," Kim said finally, in regards to her place of residence, "Maybe twice. But it was a long time ago. I do want to go there again in the near future if possible."
Gem beamed proudly. "You should! I'm really happy that I get to live in such a wonderful city. Maybe I could show you around."
Her eyes shone as he expressed an appreciation for swimming. "It is, isn't it?" she agreed, "I haven't done it all that much competitively, but just being in the water is really..." she hesitated, searching for the right word, "...Invigorating!" That was it!
Gemima hummed contentedly. "I'll have to keep an eye out for you when we visit London again!"
She took a breath then, feeling quite jittery and tired all at once. Kim seemed like a decent person, and she was glad that they'd had this time to chat. Gem set her lips in a calm line and idly traced the spine of her now forgotten book with a single finger. She dared a glance outside, and realized with a start that the sky had begun to darken. Was it that late already? She swiveled away from the windows and unconsciously looked around for one of those healing interns.
It wasn't as if she was raring to leave their conversation, but the rational part of her was urging her to get to her common room before curfew broke....

Kim nodded.
"Having a tour guide would be great! Especially if it's you." He said with a smirk.
Kim nodded as Gem continued to speak about the water and how invigorating it made her feel. "It does seem to have that effect on you, right?" He said and averted his eyes when Gem spoke of keeping an eye out for him when she paid a visit to London. Kim's... home... it wasn't one you could miss. Taohuayuan, aka Utopia or Peace Blossom Land, was the name of Kim's family's mansion/manor. Whatever you want to call it, that's what it was.
He didn't like to advertise his wealth though, or his family's name. It was what had made him so jaded when it came to making friends. Kim couldn't ever tell if someone approached him because they were interested in him, or if they just wanted to make connections with him. For their own purposes. If they didn't know who he was, it was easier to take them at face-value. Thus why Kim didn't tend to give his last name to anyone. The sky darkened further outside.
It was getting late.
Curfew was fast approaching, although since they were at the hospital wing, it didn't matter.
After all, they could always get them to write a note for them. It was around this time that an intern came by and spoke to him, informing him he could leave and then went to check up on Gem. It wasn't curfew time yet, so they didn't need to get a slip from them. Kim got up and raised a hand into the air to wave at the girl on the bed. "Zàijiàn, Precious!" He said, using the Mandarin word for goodbye and a nickname he'd come up with for Gem that fit perfectly.
She was a precious gem, wasn't she?
And just like that, Kim left the room, leaving Precious to her own thoughts about his words.

An active mind...
Outfit: X【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】Gem's heart skipped a beat at the thought of Kim visiting her home city. Come to think of it, she hadn't really had anyone over in quite a long time. Part of her wondered how her parents would react if she brought a friend over--much less a boy!
She sighed and shook away the thoughts before she could wind up all discombobulated again. Besides, this was only their first meeting. It was rather brazen of her to think that they were even friends yet. But then again, she was learning that making new acquaintances was easier that she had initially thought. Gemima thought briefly of a certain fellow Ravenclaw, and if she would get along with Kim.
Suddenly, the boy in question sprang up from his spot on the bed. Gem snapped back to attention. He'd been cleared to leave, apparently. "Zàijiàn, Precious!" Kim cried, waving. And then with that, he flounced out of the wing, and was gone.
Gem's cheeks bloomed scarlet for the umpteenth time that evening.
"Z-Zàijiàn!" she stuttured, fumbling over the unfamiliar syllables. At least she knew what it meant. But, Precious?? Was that a nickname, or something? She wasn't sure how to feel about that one...
All she could do was politely nod at the intern who cleared her to leave, gather her things, and scurry out of the hospital wing. Gemima took a deep breath and started the long walk back to her tower.
