She had no idea as to why she was defending Ben even now. He had left her in quite a state, a crying mess of emotions and thoughts. If he had been able to see how she had just seemingly fallen apart after he left... Would he have come back? Or would he have stayed no matter how much he had hurt her? Some intrusive thought told her that he would have stayed in New York no matter what. If he had the will to leave, with of course the full knowledge that his absence would hurt her, then what reason would he have to come back even if he had seen the mess she was currently.

She hated Ben. She hated her parents for letting him go. She hated her aunt that had allowed Ben to travel with her to America. She hated herself for doing nothing to stop him. She hated the world for playing this cruel, cruel trick on her. As much as she had told herself these things, as much as she had lied to herself, she didn't really believe herself. She knew none of these things were true deep down, but it was much easier to accept these things than accept that she still loved Ben, even though he had left without so much as a goodbye.

"You're right you know. I don't know why I keep feeling the need to defend his every move, but I should stop. He can fight his own battles, as he has clearly shown me," she replied. "You may not have been able to help me then, but you have helped me now by just listening to me. I owe you a lot." Every word she said held every ounce of truth she had.

"Well," she said with the hint of a smile. "I'm an angel now am I? That's something I could probably get used to." Her teasing nature had returned, so that had to mean something good. "You-you're right again there. We did come to learn and have fun. If they're jealous that we have something they don't, well then I guess they can keep on being jealous. The two of us, from now on, will be...unstoppable." Then she said, "Nice to meet you properly Simon, I'm Lizzy Solace."

Listening to them though was eye opening. It allowed her to find the happy medium between her conflicted feelings. Ben was a jackass for leaving in the first place, but his heart was hurting like hers was now. She had every right to be angry right now, but she would also eventually find the time to forgive him. Maybe not now, maybe not even in a week, but she would eventually forgive him thanks to Simon.
