The two other members he had brought in weren't in the club anymore? That was fine and all, but Lizzy didn't think it would make him that upset-looking if two people just stopped being in the club. Perhaps they had had a falling out or something along those lines. That would explain the look of sorrow upon Jack's face.

His face brightened up again when she commented that he was especially inquisitive. "Bullies? Of course they don't like being experimented on! What could you have possibly said to them to make them react and get you into the trouble you mentioned?" She shook her head ever so slightly. If he was going to experiment on bullies, he may as well keep the fact he was experimenting hidden.

"We will definitely be able to change Professor Galim's mind eventually!" Lizzy replied brightly. She had never come into contact with the Muggle Studies professor, seeing as her class was not in Lizzy's curriculum quite yet, but she was hopeful as to changing her mind.

"Your club sounds cool, but I suppose without the proper planning, it would've fallen apart. What, were you just going to teach people about muggle stuff and how mudblood should not be taken as an insult?" Those things that she listed were really all she could think of about how he was planning to run the club around. There wasn't much you could do besides that was there, when you were running a club that focused on mudbloods.

"Ben's not magical, no," she said, her throat tightening as she said his name. "I think part of it was just jealousy." As Jack began to talk about his brother, Lizzy listened, and noticed the slight hesitation before he had started talking. He mentioned that his brother, Ruka, had quit studying at Hogwarts to go to a muggle school. Lizzy had no idea how someone would want to stop coming here. It was such a magical place...literally. That's when Jack said another student had stopped attending Hogwarts as well, and that that student and his brother were part of the League of Aspiring Animagi. Those were the two he had been talking about earlier then. No wonder he had seemed so upset if they had left Hogwarts altogether. "Were--were the three of you close?" They must have been if their absence caused Jack to be so upset, but she asked regardless.

Jack chuckled when Lizzy brought up the bullies, asking what he could have said. "All sorts of things to make them realize how dumb they are. It's no fun if they don't realize it for themselves," he answered. "I may not be able to beat them in brawn, but at least I can beat them in brains and make sure they know it. Call it my style of revenge."

He beamed at how enthusiastic Lizzy seemed to be that they could change Professor Galim's mind and nodded. If more people thought like Lizzy did, perhaps some day they really could.

His mind turned to the old club he had helped found when the Gryffindor asked more about it. "There was going to be that, but also I thought others like purebloods and wizardborn students could teach mudbloods about the wizarding world as well. You know - so that everyone could learn from everyone else. There's so much in each other's worlds that the other side knows so little about after all." Jack shrugged. "But you're right; there wasn't much planning or organization, so we didn't get very far with things. People learn enough from talking to each other normally anyway. Not that I was the one who was all that determined to make the club in the first place, so I didn't expect to do much with it to begin with."

He nodded when she mentioned that Ben wasn't magical and that she thought part of their difficulty might have had to do with his jealousy. Jack could understand that. If he'd been born a sibling without magic while his brother or sister had it, he was sure he would have been pretty sore, too. "I'm sorry to hear that," the Slytherin told her. "I hope you two can make up. And soon. It's Christmas, after all."

When Lizzy asked if the three of them - Ruka, Kazuo, and he - had been close, Jack couldn't help a wry smile. By way of answer, he asked her, "...Do you know what a binding mark is?"

She laughed hearing what he said to the bullies. It was absolutely amazing how he operated like nothing worried him. "It's true that outsmarting them is much easier and much more satisfying than beating them with muscle." Intelligence and creativity were two things that Lizzy prized above most everything else, so it definitely sounded like a good form of revenge to her.

"That's amazing, truly. That mindset is just what Hogwarts, and in fact, everywhere else in the world needs. With that just think of what could be accomplished without petty prejudices and discriminations," she replied. The subject of the advanced nature the club's attitude seemed like just the kind of thing she would have been in. Lizzy probably would have been a member of the club, had it not stopped.

"Thanks, but it isn't your doing. I suppose the time I've been away, he's had the same time to really process the quick changes our lives have taken. We've never been apart for longer than a few days, so this was a drastic turn of events for the both of us. We both just took it a bit different." She gave a half-hearted smile, "I hope so too."

Jack gave a small, sad smile when she asked her question. Lizzy already knew that they had to have been close, but the evidence was extremely clear on his face as he went to respond. "A binding mark? No, I don't know what it is." It must be a wizarding thing, but she still had a lot to learn about the differences of the two worlds. The one she was comfortable with and the one she had been thrust into were both dear to her, but the latter still held many mysteries in her eyes.

Upon hearing Lizzy's laughter, Jack beamed brilliantly. He liked her laugh and he liked being the cause of it. "So glad you can understand what I mean," he told her. "Not everyone can." They must have been similar-minded in at least some ways for her to be able to get where he was coming from.

When the girl started talking about what could have been accomplished without petty prejudices and discrimination, Jack regarded her admiringly. "It's a shame you weren't one of the members while it was around," he remarked. "The club could have probably gotten a lot farther with you."

Lizzy's talk of her brother had Jack nodding slowly and solemnly, thinking again of his own brother. If being apart from Ruka was anything like Ben felt being apart from Lizzy, he thought he could at least sympathize if not empathize with the guy. Along with not having the same magic Lizzy had, it would have been difficult to be away from her, too.

Once she mentioned she didn't know what a binding mark was, the Slytherin explained, "A binding mark is a type of magic that binds you to someone for life. You can talk to each other telepathically and know where the other person is at all times if you're bound together with a binding mark. I shared a binding mark with both Ruka and Kazuo before they left Hogwarts. They still have the marks even now; we just don't use them anymore. But that's how close we were."
