So, she enjoyed transfiguration? That was one class he had always struggled with. Even with all of his studies, it would take him forever to even get a basic transfiguration perfected. And she aspired to be an animagus? She was right, that was no easy goal, but she seemed to be intelligent and hardworking, so he supposed she could attain it with due time and diligence. He also admired her confidence in her abilities. While he often considered any of his classmates to exhibit confidence to simply be arrogant, there was something about her that made him truly believe she could accomplish whatever she sought. “That’s a hefty goal you’ve set for yourself, but I’m sure you can do it,” he replied cheerfully, not quite sure where he got this sudden sense of optimism.
He listened intently as she explained the darker side of her family history. He felt a bit silly for his blind admiration of knowing one’s family history. “Yeah, I suppose not knowing about my family history could have some bright sides to it. Maybe it’s best I don’t know”, he said while still reflecting on what she had just explained. For all he knew, his grandparents could have been dark wizards. Germany, where they had lived, did not have a very good reputation at the time when it came to dark arts users, so it was a possibility. His parent must have had a reason for keeping it all from him.
He noticed her frown and contemplated what he could say to raise her spirits. “At least you’re a good person,” he started, but then trailed off, still trying to figure out what to say. After a moment, he finished with, “At least whoever you pass the journal onto will get to read about the wonderful things you did in your life and admire you for them”.

Eri smiled as he told her whoever she passed on the journal would be able to admire the good things she did. She didn't write everything in her journal, but enough to depict a lot of her daily activities and accomplishments. He also believed she would be able to be an animagus. It was a hard goal and she knew she would be able to accomplish the goal.
"You are right. At last I think I am a good person, but I'm only eleven. Still a long time to improve my self." She said matter of factly. She knew what she was talking about.
Eri looked at the books he had on the table. There were a bunch of them. All different kinds. He must have studied a lot. Since he seemed to have all sorts of subjects at the table. All seemed very interesting, but they were all school subjects. Maybe he was like her and didn't read many other things that weren't books related to study material. Which is a bummer. Some of the books she read when she was little were pretty good. Like Peter Pan and Alice Of Wonderland. Both great books to read when you can.

Elrich nodded at her statement in agreement. He often had to remind himself that he, and many of his classmates, were only eleven years old. To him, attending a wizarding school made things seem more serious than they actually were. And although having many years ahead of them meant they could improve upon themselves extensively, it also meant that there was a lot of room to change; for better or worse. Even the most well behaved and pure hearted of eleven-year-old could turn into the most horrible of people. He then came to his senses, realizing that was getting lost in his thoughts was not doing anything for his current situation, and he most certainly wasn’t going to mention any of that to her. He finally decided to simply say, “You’re right, we’re still young and have a lot of time to improve”.
Still not really wanting to return to his studies, he swiftly bounced through his thoughts trying to think of something to ask in order to prolong their conversation. On one hand he did not want to return to his studies, but on the other he did not want to keep her from her own studies. He settled on the assumption that if she wanted to continue, she would simply start reading. He eventually settled on simply inquiring, “So what do you typically write in your journal? That is if you don’t mind my asking”.

"I can tell you. I write my findings of things I think are interesting. I write about transfiguration, just stuff that happened and mainly how I plan to improve. I also just write about my day. It's pretty boring. I think." Eri said calmly. She believed her life was on the boring side. To Eri, her life was very boring to her. She didn't really read all the time, but it took up a great deal of her daily activities.
Eri looked down at her book and thought. Maybe she should ask him if he knew what he wanted to be? "What do you want to be when you graduate?" She asked. There wasn't much she wanted to be. At the moment she had no clue. Though she would figure it out as she got older. Right now she was only eleven years old and she would need to learn a lot more before she choose her job.
Eri looked at Elrich, she wondered what he wanted to be, since he seemed to study a lot. Maybe he wanted to be a teacher, or something else that required a lot of studying to become. Well she would find out when he answered.

“Well it may seem boring to you, but I’m sure whoever it’s passed on to will enjoy reading about how you spent your days at Hogwarts”, he remarked, knowing that he would love to be able to read about his father’s days at Hogwarts, if only to know if he was as stuffy back then as he is now.
When she asked him what he wanted to be after graduation, he opened his mouth to answer and after a brief pause, closed it again. What did he want to be? “I suppose if it were up to my father I would try for a Ministry position in some branch or another. I’m not so sure if it would suit me well, though”, he finally replied. His father had always dropped not-so-subtle hints that he expected his only child to follow him in his line of governmental work. He also did not seem to care that his only child also happened to be only eleven years of age. Elrich’s age never stopped his parents from holding him to high expectations, especially in his father’s case. “I guess I’m not entirely sure what I want for myself yet. If I had to work in the Ministry, I’d prefer something like the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, though I doubt that’s really what my old man has in mind”, he responded, though lacking a whole lot of certainty.
“What about you? What do you think you want to do?”

Eri had no clue what she wanted to be. She sat there silent whilst she thought her answer through. She had no earthly idea what she wanted to be. "I-I don't know. Maybe an unspeakable. I know there isn't much known about their job, but it seems so interesting to me. I really want to be one, but who knows." She stifled a yawn not wanting him to see she was really tired. She spent most of the time dedicated to sleeping, to read. She would sit in the common room and read. Not wanting to disrupt her dorm mates. Since they slept and she just read.
The brunette didn't know what else to ask him or say. So she just sat there and waited for him to say something. He seemed to be enjoying her company. Since she didn't have anything else to say she looked at the books on the table. Wondering if there were any other books she wanted to read. One of her goals was to read all of the books in the library, which would probably never happen, she would try anyways. Maybe it would take her all seven years of her education at Hogwarts.

An unspeakable? This girl was full of surprises. First, she says she aspires to be to be an animagus and now she says she also wanted to be an unspeakable. Elrich hadn’t even considered that division of the Ministry when thinking about what he wanted to be when after graduation, partially due to the limited information on what they did and partially because he was not sure if he could ever have the abilities to hold a role of such esteem. This girl on the other hand was determined to chase her goals down, even if she was young.
“Gotta be honest with you, your attitude really impresses me. You seem to have such a clear vision of what you want your future to be. Compared to me, at least”, he told her, cracking a smile. His entire life he had felt like his studies were meant to prepare him for his future, both at Hogwarts and beyond. However, a realization struck him. How could he prepare for his future if he did not have the foggiest idea what his future would entail? Sure, studying would likely help with whatever he ended up doing, but what kind of motivation could he have to study as hard as he did if he didn’t have long term goals?
“Hey, so…. why do you read so much? Like….is I just for enjoyment, or to prepare for the future, or something else?”

Eri smiled when he said her attitude impressed him. She believed she could do anything she set her mind to. Even if people thought she was to young to have such goals right now. She knew her goals, of being an animagus and an unspeakable seemed far fetched since she was only elven at that current moment, but why can't she have big dreams? She knows she can achieve them if she works hard enough. "Thank you. I really do believe I can achieve these goals. If I try hard enough I will be able to." She said like she knew what she was talking about.
Eri flinched when he asked the question about why she read so much. She read it for the knowledge, but she was picked on when she was younger since she was quiet and somehow everyone knew her parents had left her to continue their jobs as famous daily prophet writers. "The knowledge, and I didn't have many friends. So I always spent my time reading instead of trying to get to know the people who ignored me and picked on me. I also read to try to learn more for some reason I don't want to say right now."

To be so sure in one’s own abilities. It truly inspired Elrich. Maybe because it contrasted so much with the doubts he had begun to feel about his motivations and purpose for the way he had lived his life. Regardless, he was happy that Eri had stumbled upon his table and noticed the book he was reading. Their conversations had given him a lot to think about and a good deal of opportunities for introspection. Funny how life is. One moment you’re bored out of your mind, the next you’re questioning your entire past and future.
When he asked her of her motives to reading, he noticed she flinched, causing him to immediately worry that he had asked too many questions. Luckily, she proceeded with a suitable answer, which Elrich actually believed to show some parallels between the two’s lives. Perhaps he told himself that he spent so much of his past reading and studying to prepare for the future, but that could have just been to cover up the fact that besides his books, he was essentially alone. With his parents constantly away for work and him not being allowed to explore his neighborhood, there was little to do besides read.
“Well you may not have had a lot of friends back home, but at least you have friends at Hogwarts,” he cheerfully reminded her. “And don’t feel like you gotta disclose everything to me, it’s totally fine for you to have things you want to keep to yourself. Everybody does”.

Eri looked at him. "I have disclosed things. It would be a lot to tell you all my reasons for reading." She said quietly. Maybe she was being a bother and he didn't want to hear her entire life story. Which wouldn't bother her since she wasn't going to share every detail about her life. It would be boring and long. So she just examined the detail. She tried to stifle a yawn but it came out anyways. She was tired, but the brunette didn't want to show her exhaustion and she was interested in talking with this gryffindor boy.
Eri looked at the shelves around them and then back to the table. She needed to keep her mind racing in order for her to not fall asleep then and there.
Eri wasn't normally the type to not sleep but lately she had been reading instead of sleeping and she was feeling the fatigue. She knew she needed sleep so she slept whenever she didn't want to read. Which was like three hours a night. That wasn't enough she knows that, but she just loves to read and really enjoys it more than sleep. Which is kind of dum since she needs sleep.
