Amadea giggled as Ami corrected her terrible American slang. It was all quite confusing for Amadea, the weird phrases they used. At least she wasn't planning to go to America anytime soon! She watched as Ami attempted to start attempting an Irish accent, closing her mouth before any sound escaped. Personally, Amadea thought Irish accents were quite nice, and they were easier to do than American accents. She didn't know any stereotypical slang of the Irish though, so she simply let it be.
Suddenly, Ami yelped and jumped out of the water. Instinctively, Amadea jumped back too, pulling her feet out of the water. Ami began talking about feeling something in the water and then pointed toward the lake. Amadea squinted, trying to see what Ami was pointing at. Unfortunately, her vision wasn't that great so she couldn't see whatever it was that Ami was talking about.
"I personally don't see anything," Amadea said, "But that could be because I have kind of bad vision." She took off her glasses and wiped them on her robe. She didn't think it would help, but who knew? As she placed them back on her face, she squinted again and this time she saw something sparkling against the surface of the lake.
"Whoa okay I actually see that now," she said, entranced. "Maybe we should...back away now..."

Ami grimaced, still staring intently at the water. "I have no flipping clue just exactly what is in the water, but it's either gonna be something really stupid like a minnow or just a normal fish, or something really dangerous," Ami mumbled darkly, her eyes narrowing into slits. Standing up, she retrieved a nearby stick and poked it at the silvery creature, but the stick only seemed to go straight through. "What the actual-?" Ami mutter in both confusion and wonder. "What is this thing?"
In her opinion, it could be one of four things. First of all, it could be some extremely dangerous creature that they'd have to tell the administration about right away, as soon as possible. On the other hand, it could simply be a totally normal fish, minding its own business. Of course, it could also just be a piece of trash, floating in the water, in which case, Ami was about to beat up some dumbass litterbug who thought it was okay to litter. The fourth and last possibility, one that Ami didn't like to consider, was just that it was a mirage- a trick of the light, her hallucinating, or someone playing a cruel prank.

Cecily watched as Ami poked the thing with a stick, saying how it was probably something stupid like a minnow. "Yeah, knowing my luck it's probably just some sort of completely normal fish." But wouldn't it be interesting if it was something undiscovered?
The stick made contact with the creature-- or, rather, didn't. Narrowing her eyes, Cecily leaned forwards even further, trying to get a closer look at this creature without falling into the lake. The stick seemed to simply...pass through the thing? Ami whispered the one question that was on all of their minds: "What is this thing?"
Cecily opened her mouth. "Um...I don't think that usually happens to fish," she said nervously. What do they do now? Would a professor believe them if they said that they saw a silver, swimming, apparently holographic-esque thing in the water? It was a magic school, but even Cecily found an explanation of that sort fairly unbelievable. Cecily didn't think that they would get in trouble for being so close to the lake, but they might be scolded for messing with the creatures in it. Cecily was already behind on homework; the last thing she needed right now was to get on the bad side of any professor. But if this was something dangerous, she felt obliged to report it.

Amadea squinted, trying to get a better look at the creature...or lack of that was floating around in the water. They were all standing on the shore now, looking confused and a bit scared. Or at least, that's what Amadea figured she looked like. Then again, she wasn't probably the best judge of what anything looked like since she still couldn't decipher what was swimming around below the surface of the water.
"Okay, I'm not an expert or anything, but that definitely does not look like a normal fish," Amadea said. She watched as Cecily attempted to poke the creature with a stick, but it never made contact. Amadea's mouth dropped wide open. She knew this was a magical school, but she was pretty sure she had never seen anything like this before. Was this a ghost fish? She remembered from one of her lessons that ghosts could only be dead humans...not dead fish. Unless there hadn't been any research on dead fish yet? She wasn't sure, but she wished there was some sort of explanation for this. Other than something totally creepy and scary. She tried to think rationally.
"Okay, so what do we know about this fish?" Amadea thought out loud, ticking off things on her finger as she went. "We know that it can interact with objects, since it touched Ami. And we know objects can't interact with it." She paused, looking toward the shimmering blob again. "Are we sure that it actually exists?" Amadea was lost. She had absolutely no idea what that was. She figured they weren't hallucinating it because all three of them had seen it, but none of them could be completely sure.

PS Ami I was looking through my unread messages and reading threads because I'm a stalker like that and I saw your thread I forget what it's called but Ami was reading They Both Die at the End AND OH MY GOSH I LOVE THAT BOOK. (so does Cecily - actually she was the one that told me to read it)

Ami winced at Amadea's last question. "I'm really confused," she admitted, which honestly wasn't an easy thing for her to do- she was prideful of her awareness and her seemingly bottomless pit of random trivia knowledge, but now, she'd reached the bottom. "This... this thing, whatever it is, seems to defy all laws of nature. I have no idea what it is," the redhead mumbled, tugging on the ends of her hair. This... this whatever it was, it was intriguing, fascinating, terrifying, and wonderous... all at once, too. Seriously, what was this thing?
As of right now, Ami was really regretting her suggestion of exploring the grand outdoors. Now, instead of peaceful calm instilled by the natural beauty around them, all Ami got was the burning desire to know and understand what the figure in the Lake was. Really, magic here at Hogwarts just liked to take logic by the throat and strangle it, tossing all reason overboard the boat of life. Here, at the British castle of the impossible, anything was possible, and Ami was kind of sick of all the impossible-ness becoming possible- really, it was like this whole school taught Philosophy all of a sudden. Where were the math classes, the English classes?

Cecily watched in utter confusion and nervousness as Amadea and Ami tried to figure out what the heck this ghostly creature was. Could it be a ghost? As Amadea had pointed out, the creature could touch, but not be touched. Plus, ghosts clearly existed, as proven by the multiple ghosts that could be seen floating through the Hogwarts halls-- literally, through. However, they were all human, which made Cecily wonder if it were possible to have a ghost of another creature-- such as a fish.
"At the risk of sounding stereotypically Ravenclaw, I wonder if we could find anything about something like this in the Library," Cecily tentatively said. This mysterious creature had officially piqued her interest, and she was not one to simply let something go without satisfying her curiosity first. "Or we should at least tell Professor Blackburn or someone else," she suggested. "If it's dangerous, we can't deal with it by ourselves, and it could be a threat to other students," the girl continued, glancing around at the many students leisurely strolling around the Great Lake, oblivious to the three first-years' discovery.
Taking another look at the creature that was still swimming around near the surface, Cecily looked up at her companions, looking for their input.

Amadea was almost stunned to silence. She wasn't scared. No. She wasn't. Okay maybe she was. Just a little bit. Though, considering there was some unknown shiny and invisible creature swimming just feet away from them was slightly terrifying. What if it was poisonous and Ami was going to drop dead in seconds? What if it could understand what they were saying? What if it was going to attack her? Shivering, she backed up even farther from the lake as she listened to the other two debate about what the creature could be.
It couldn't be a ghost, could it? She remembered learning about them in Defense Against the Dark Arts. This creature didn't seem to match the description. Whether that was fortunate or unfortunate, Amadea wasn't sure. Maybe it was just a weird fish. Amadea was going to hope that it was. If it wasn't, she wasn't sure she ever wanted to come back to the Great Lake ever. Sure, that made her seem like a wuss, but maybe she was. She wasn't a Gryffindor after all.
"I have absolutely no idea what that is," she said, managing to make her voice not shake, despite her worries. "Those both sound like good ideas though." Perhaps they would find some piece of useful information in the library. If not, they could always just ask the Deputy Headmaster about it. "Let's go to the library and see if anything useful is there," she suggested. "If we find anything then we can bring the information to Professor Blackburn. If we don't find anything, we should still go to him, but we'd obviously have more questions than answers." With a plan solidified, Amadea felt much more confident. She walked even farther from the lake, waiting for the others to follow.

When Cecily suggested hitting the books, Ami nearly threw herself at the Ravenclaw to hug her to death- but, restraint reigned all-powerful, and Ami managed to keep it down to a wide smile. Research was always a good place to start when you had questions, and where better to conduct research than the library? Cecily had also suggested going to Professor Blackburn if the girls didn't find anything, which was totally fine with Ami. After all, the adults at the school were perfectly capable.
Amadea voiced her agreement with Cecily's ideas, and Ami nodded her own assent. As Amadea rose and left the lake to return to the castle, and presumably the library, Ami turned to follow suit. However, she cast one last glance back at the water, and the figure within it. She was going to find out what that fish-thing was, even if it took the girls to the Deputy Headmaster himself. Sure, there was a high-chance that Professor Blackburn would simply disregard their concerns and insist they were hallucinating, but Ami had felt that fish for sure.
Following after Amadea, Ami beckoned to Cecily. "Let's go. To the library!" she crowed, with a half-hearted smile, a smile that wasn't as light and bubbly as it usually was. She had a mission to embark upon, and she was going to take it seriously- more seriously than any homework assignment she'd ever had to complete (not that she took those seriously, in the first place).

Sincerely Me, Part Three in the Library, then? Cecily, if you don't want to start, Amadea should start it because I'm still super jet-lagged and this post probably makes no sense.

Amadea and Ami both nodded their assent to Cecily's suggestions, and started away from the lake. Cecily was glad that they had listened to what she had to say, as most people saw her as too young to have much of an opinion. But no age is "too young" when you're with people of the same age, and so here they were, going to the library to investigate a mysterious ghost-fish.
Cecily traced this entire day back to whence it had first begun. She had first entered the Owlery for some alone time, but had somehow gotten caught up in the conversation between two Hufflepuffs-- one whom she had known a little bit, and the other one a total stranger. Now, she had two new friends, and was on a crazy adventure to research a mysterious thing that had appeared in the lake that might take them all the way to the Deputy Headmaster, Professor Blackburn himself. Recalling a specific part of their earlier conversation whilst the trio was still inside of the school, Cecily couldn't help but wonder what might have happened if it did rain today. They might never have discovered this creature, and she would probably still have no friends. Cecily laughed at the absurdity of this day, and at the workings of fate, as she dashed after her two friends towards the castle, and the Library inside.
