Heed My Call

@Scarlet Salvatore
Scarlets' reassuring words were a source of what little solace and comfort she could find. Elena knew the girl was well-intentioned trying to weed out any horrible or doubtful thoughts the brunette might have been having and she had to admit to an extent, it was working. It would have even been better if she could pick up more hints or signs than just a couple of measly owl feathers. She couldn't help the small laugh that slipped from her mouth as they tromped onwards, the offended cries of the crows growing louder and louder. "I'm sure you'll think of something, name your price." Perhaps Scarlet's theory was right, the Gryffindor had taken enough classes on magical creatures and anything animal-related to know the black birds in the skies were not calling out because they had found the remains of something, there was a visitor and a most unwelcome one judging from the sounds.
Maybe their new guest was Flutters, one could only hope. "I was gonna get a cat at first but Flutters just seemed to connect with me. The idea of having a bird that could fly around and stuff just seemed cool at the time." Although, she was now seeing the cons of that particular perk as they crossed a few feet before stopping at the foot of a rather thick tree which was quickly determined as the source of the crow's discontent as her eyes wandered up and up towards a jumble of sticks resembling a rough nest. It was empty but a few inches from it, a familar dark brown bird sat blinking his black pearl-like eyes at the crows who dared not to get too close wary of the owl's talons and beaks though Flutters was virtually harmless. She knew the shape well enough, those eyes were unmistakable as she stared. "It's him." The brunette breathed, a mixture between relief and teary-eyed happiness as she cupped her hands around her mouth and called up hoping her voice would carry in this storm.
"Get down you here, you birdbrain!" Elena couldn't even be angry, technically, it wasn't Flutter's fault the sky had started crying as he took off with a gentle flap of wings streaking downwards to perch on her shoulder. From above, the flock of crows sounded their victory as they reclaimed their rightful nest and branches peering down at where the owl was now making himself at home prodding his beak through Elena's hair as if searching for something, presumably food. "Quit that! I've just spent the better part of an hour looking for you and the first thing that crossed your mind is food?!" She wasn't angry, just a sort of fiery happiness that her owl was still very much an owl as she tilited her head upwards to glance at Scarlet. "You're the best." The girl confessed wanting to hug the other girl but deciding against it given the fact of the mountain of a bird on her shoulder who turned his keen gaze on the stranger shaking his wings to offload some of the moisture.
"I think that's his way of saying thanks." She said ruefully glancing up at the darkened sky, Elena reckoned she'd just about had enough of thunderstorms and water for one day now.

Heed My Call
Scarlet would have to think about Elena's offer, probably at a time when she wasn't soaking through in and freezing cold, she really didn't expect anything from the girl but guessed something would come up. Noticing the hint of a smile on Elena's face, Scarlet was happy that she had managed to lighten the mood, and it wasn't that she was making up what she had seen either, she couldn't think of many other things that would cause such a disturbance to the crows.
"Yeah it definitely is," she replied, "I mean it's loads better to get your post delivered by your own owl than having to rely on the school owls or your parents'," she said, thinking about her own experience sending and recieving letters whilst at Hogwarts. "But then again, cats will just curl up on your bed, or on just on you, and have a nap, which is super cute," Scarlet said, considering the benefits of each of the animals.
Scarlet squinted her eyes as she looked up towards the top of the large tree they had stopped by the base of, trying her best to keep the rain out of her eyes. It wasn't difficult to spot the nest, at this time of the year, the tree was no longer sporting a thick blanket of green leaves so the cluster of twigs that she imagined the crows called home was clearly visible.
Her eyes hadn't even focussed on the owl when she heard the relief in Elena's voice as she declared that she had spotted Flutters, Scarlet smiled and quickly also picked out the shape of the feathery creature up in the tree, close to the nest. "Yep, he's definitely shown the crows who's boss, there aren't even any of them left," she said. Scarlet laughed as Elena called out to Flutters, and continued to do so as he proceeded to comb through her hair with his beak. "What! Do you normally keep his treats in your hair!" she joked, but assumed the bird was simply showing his own relief at being found. "Honestly it's no problem, despite the weather, and the worry, it was a good afternoon, we should catch up again soon, maybe inside somewhere next time though!" she said smiling at Elena, "lets head back, I think we're both in need of a change of clothes," she said, looking down at the wet clothes that clung to her skin and were splattered with mud.
