A Capricious Evening

Although he was uncertain at first, Allegra seemed to encourage him that he could do it -- that he in fact should find the time to take a break just to reset his approach and mindset to practicing. In fact, deep inside, that advice seemed to resonate with him. Much of his practice these few months had seemed like non-stop grinding of an empty mortar and pestle, with little fruit to show for his labor.
The way Allegra explained it, it was like going to an art gallery and viewing the paintings up close without taking a step back to appreciate the whole picture. He had been pining to see a different side of life, and explore one he had never known existed until he received his Hogwarts letter. Perhaps it was finally time for him to allow himself to do so, and embark on adventure without feeling like he was pulling himself back in his practicing.
When Allegra suggested that perhaps he needed to be more communicative with Mr. Violin, he laughed once more. "Mr. Violin, don't take it personally, what you heard today!" he chimed in. "I might be gone for a week after the Talent Show this weekend, but I'll be seeing you again! We're not breaking up now, or anything, so don't worry!" He looked back up from his violin and grinned at Allegra. This girl was wise for her years but also hilarious.
Upon his offer to walk back with him or stay for a few extra minutes, Allegra opted to use the piano a little longer. He thought that would be the case, as well -- the girl seemed eager for a chance to play and seemed so happy while she demonstrated her favorite piece a while back. He hoped that after taking a small break, he would be able to come back in stride with the same eagerness to play as she had, and that he had once had.
"All good," he said, as he gathered up his music from the stand, and slung his violin case over his shoulder. "Enjoy yourself, remember not to stay too long, and I hope to see you around again sometime!" With that, he gave her a small wave, and headed for the corridors back to the snake pit.
