Chess Combat (Match 3)

Lovanna was always quite a nervous girl and being in a competition like this really was making her scared. She was excited and hopeful to help the team in this but was just nervous as well.
Lovanna wanted to help her team but this was really out of her comfort zone, but her mother taught her sometimes it's best to come out of your comfort zone you don't know what's going to happen.
She believed her mother and had been rock-climbing even though she was afraid. But Lovanna thought about this and was going to give it her best shot.
"Come on Lovanna if you really try you can help this team." she whispered confidently to herself. She usually whispered to herself if she was scared.

Both teams didn't waste a single moment once the match had started. The Slytherin team had decided to have their two Rook, Percival and Hanako, cast two Flipendo, respectively towards Greta and Lovanna. Both spells hit their intended target, even if there was something -or rather someone- from the other team that seemed to almost intimidate Hanako, Percival didn't seem to be susceptible towards Yefim and Enzo's presence.
The other team had decided to have only their Queen, Roberta, casting a spell; her target was Piper, that despite all of her efforts was still hit by the spell. The flames stuck to her, and she would have been on fire for the next round.
The other Slytherin students had decided to move on the board, ready to protect their Queen no matter what: Opeila moved to the cell in front of her, allowing Piper to move behind her, while Starlee moved one cell ahead.
The other team had decided on a similar strategy, creating a wall in front of their Queen: Greta, Yefim and Enzo moved diagonally to their right, while Lovanna to her left. This way Roberta was shielded, and if the Slytherin wanted to get to her, they would have needed to first get rid of the other students.

Chess Combat (Match 3)
The match started, movement and spells flying from both sides. While Yefim would gladly admit that the queen they got for the duel was fierce, the opponents were likely not expecting that the team captain was actually the 'meathead' himself. Since they were dumb, soft Crapwarts students, none of them likely knew just how cut-throat competition could really get. A huge smile still plastered on his face, he watched with glee as the enemy queen caught fire.
[”Over there, right there.”] He said a few quiet words in Russian, a little middle finger to the fact that they made him take a quiz in English during the ball.
First step completed flawlessly, though it was obviously more ideal if his teammates had not gotten hit. No matter, his team's overwhelming force was not going to be stopped by a few measly hits. No, those nerds would need a miracle to win.

Opeila watched the first spells fly across the field as she took her new position. For a second she had been worried that she had forgotten how to duel, but there it was, the adrenaline, the tension... The third year took a deep breath and ducked a little while running to the next cell. She could hear and see her teammates run, Piper behind her and Starless forward. Percival and Hanako had decided to cast spells instead and both hit their targets. At the same time a spell flew past her and hit Piper, setting her on fire. Darn.

Starlee rolled her eyes at Piper's comment. She wasn't going to let a certain someone get her down. Not this time.
And as the duel began, spells began to fly. Both of her teammates managed to get off two hitting Flipendos, causing Starlee to do a low fistpump. Off to a great start already. However, to both Starlees delight and dismay, Piper was hit with a firey Incendio, causing her to catch fire. She turned her head to hide her snigger, but while she couldn't help but laugh, she knew it wasn't great for her team. She did manage to make her way forward on the board at least, preparing for the next round.

Lovanna thought for a moment but the spell Hanako cast at Lovanna had hit her and she now had lost a lot of confidence.
"Right, move to D4." this happened as Lovanna said it. And she gained a bit of confidence after that but wanted to win more now!
She wanted to get Hanako back from that spell he cast at Lovanna, but she forgot about it in a hurry.
Her figure as Lovanna called it moved to the position Lovanna had asked it to move to.

[font=Monotype Corsiva]As soon as he was given the signal to start, Enzo quickly took a step diagonally into another cell, helping form a protective wall in front of their queen.
He then watched as their queen sent a spell straight for the opposing one and upon seeing that it hit its target, he could not resist looking just a little triumphant.
While unfortunately two of his other teammates had been flipendoed, at least they had already managed to make a move on the queen. That certainly counts for something.
Still seemingly unfazed Enzo then prepared for his next move.

Chess Combat (Match 3)
No sooner had the duel started that spells began to fly across the chessboard. Piper had no time to even think before she saw only the triumphant face of the opposite queen and her muttered incantation. The Slytherin attempted to quickly dive to the side, but her efforts were not enough to keep her unscathed.
A flame began to climb up Piper's robes. She groaned. The last time she had been on fire, it had been accompanied with rabid rats in a dungeon. She squeezed her eyes shut and tried not to let the memories overtake her. There were some good moves, such as the fact that two of their spells hit (flipendos). And at least now Piper could find protection behind her teammate. Starlee's little laugh, which did not go unheard, did nothing to help Piper's mood, but there were too many distractions in her brain to allow for another.
If she allowed things to nettle her this early in the round, she'd never be a successful duellist.
They could still win.

Pushing the power forward through her wand, her focus on producing the flames, Roberta's incendio flowed as easily now as it had during her practice bouts. Even here she was improving, just narrowly striking her moving target. She'd never done that before.
Encouraged by the blazing inferno the opposing queen was now engulfed in, she would not linger on her laurels. First she would gather her wits before moving into position to fire again.
She was ready for more action should spells start flying her way, but instead she witnessed her allies taking the brunt of the damage. "Cowards," she cried out from behind her wall of allies, oblivious to the irony.

Chess Combat (Match 3)
[font=PT Sans]Now that wasn’t the snarl he wanted. Not even an eyeroll? A tough opponent this one. That - or he needed to sharpen his talent of being annoying. This wasn’t even the first time this happened. Did age come with more resistance to annoying pests or something? It was probably the Basic Human Interaction class that dimmed his talent. Darn classes.
But he didn’t have time to dwell on that more. Not when he just scored a hit on the intended target. The boy would’ve celebrated more if not for his teammate that was on fire. Gosh, thank god that wasn’t him. But he could easily be the next one engulfed in flames. He didn’t think his lack of pain tolerance would be too happy about that.
With his teammate in flames and a failed attempt at mockery, he could barely register what Cash said in the stands. But he knew them enough to know it wasn’t all that good. For a quick second, he made an ugly face at Cash before turning back to the duel and making his next move.
