This time, it started with fire – and bubbles.

But it was not a fruitful round for the badgers. Maria’s spell had entirely missed the elusive Ravenclaw as did her teammate’s. Their opponents had more success, but Mars hadn’t been as fortunate to land a hit. The young badger thought she should feel bad, but better them than her right now.

A huff of annoyance would leave her as she geared up for the next volley. With each duel always came a challenge, but with this one it felt like they were going to have to fight tooth and nail to survive

Alan was seriously unable to know which of the teams had worse luck, but even so, the Hufflepuffs had a harder time dealing with their lack of luck. Alan at this point was convinced that they were the weaker team and the reason they could have won this, would have been a few lucky hits. None of which was given to them as they once again missed their intended target. Not only that but the spell that Elisabeth would attempt to cast in order to prevent the fire damage fizzled out without taking any effect; so she would remain burning. Meanwhile Maria was enveloped by a small whirlwind that had barely managed to grasp her and was left fighting for her balance. Alan was sure that this would be catastrophic for her maneuverability, but he was unwilling to lose faith in the badgers. Perhaps they would turn this all around after all? Maybe they were playing the factor of surprise? At least Maria had been able to dodge out of the way before Mars' spell had been able to hit her; surely having hit by the Sneezing Hex would have been a bit too cruel all at once.

Tch. Another miss. Mars sighed as they lowered their wand, pushing through some of the bubbles lazily. At least it hadn't failed this time. And at least no one had gone for them.

They glanced over at Cel—she seemed to be fairing as well as ever. The Ravenclaw let out a low whistle as the breeze burst by, watching as the Hufflepuff opposite to them was pushed back by the gust. They waved away the dust, flipping their wand lightly.

"Oi, save some for me, huh?" they called, bouncing on the balls of their feet, "At this rate, I'm not gonna have to do anything." Faking a frown of disappointment, Mars slid into an attacking stance once again. One on fire and the other bracing the breeze. Hm. Who to go for next?

Cel's eyes narrowed a bit as the jet of wind blasted out of her wand, almost knocking her back a step—fortunately, she'd had practice dealing with the recoil of the Wind Jinx before, and Newton's Third Law was no longer the bane of her ridiculously short height. Unfortunately, this might've thrown her off a little, as it only grazed her opponent's side instead of heading for her straight on like she'd intended. Oh well, the Hufflepuff had still been pushed back.

A familiar flash of green light flashed over her shoulder, for which she was grateful since she'd been under the influence of that spell one too many times (and still won, but that wasn't the point), and out of the corner of her eye she watched Elizabeth's extinguishing spell fail, flames still burning. Poor girl. Her concern was still her partner first, though.

At their complaint, Cel snorted, pushing aside Svana's chiding words in the back of her mind—dueling was not the time to be a lady, Celynne, really. "I'm sure you have enough, well, brilliant companions to keep you entertained for another thirty seconds," she responded dryly, rotating her wrist to shake out the tension from the Ventus.

Things were not looking well at all. Maria’s spell had missed its target, and she had been swept up by a gust of wind. At least now she could fully say that she’d experienced being swept off her feet. Her hand gripped her wand tightly, not wanting to lose it. The Hufflepuff’s face grimaced slightly as she saw her partner fail to extinguish the flames on her robe.

Needless to say, the young girl was entirely frustrated now. Nothing was going to plan and they would be in big trouble if they couldn’t turn things around.

Once again the round prove to be a disaster for the Hufflepuff and Alan began to think that perhaps the two badgers were outskilled by their opponents. The eagles would land not one but two hits on the girl Alan had once mistakenly called Mulan because of Rafael. Though he now knew better. Maria was hit by Mars and would be overcome with a tickling sensation in her nose, that would throw her into a fit of sneezing her lungs out, as out of nowhere she was also lit on fire . Alan wasn't sure what would bother her more as both seemed quite painful to look at. Alan felt bad enough that he hoped that they might just tap out at this point or at least that some miracle happened that would let them at least hit their opponents. Though his hope faded as he observed the shape Maria was already in and her partner did not seem to do much better. But at least the fire died slowly, though that must have taken a bunch out of her; fire seemed far too painful to deal with but it seemed such a popular choice among duelists. Alan shuddered inwardly as he waited for the duel to move on.
