My dear Haley,

Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to meet you in person and it was only by chance that I found out about you at all. Surely you will be confused by this letter but I will gladly answer any questions you may have. But now let me introduce myself. I am Godric Rose, your grandfather.

You probably haven't heard much about me, if you have at all. I'm sure my ex-wife hasn't said a word about me. But I'd like to catch up. I would love to meet my only granddaughter.

Unfortunately, as I really know very little about you, in fact only about your existence, I very much hope that this letter reaches you. If I have used the correct information, you should now be in your first year at Hogwarts, is that correct?

Dear Godric,

I am indeed very confused by your letter. I mean, of course I knew that Grandma was once married but it was never a big topic of conversation. Sorry, that can't be nice to read, but what can I say? That's the truth.

Well, anyway. You're right, I'm a first year at Hogwarts now. But right now, I have a thousand questions for you running through my head. Where do you live? Why aren't you in touch with your family? Why are you contacting me? And why now?

I absolutely can't believe what I've now had to experience by ACCIDENT. What the hell happened to you to make you act like this? This is not how WE raised you and it seems like it was a big mistake to send you to Hogwarts! Do you even realise what you've done to yourself? Since when do we hide things like this in our family? Haley Rose you should have told us THIS! We are sorely disappointed in you and this is going to have a bigger repercussion.

You know it's not a good thing, I hope, or have you lost your clever mind too now? IAN WAS IN A COMA BECAUSE OF IT! That was your fault and yet you didn't tell us about it! I can only repeat that we are disappointed in you to the max Haley!

I expect a statement from you TODAY. There's absolutely no way we're going to find out about something like this just by chance! You can be glad that we don't take you home right away. You can thank your father for that, because if it were up to me, you'd already be home. Haley, a PARSEL!! And then not tell us. I still can't believe it.

I hope the letter arrives in time! And I am so sorry, really! It was not intentional, you have to believe us! Oh God Hales, please don't be mad but your parents found out. You know, the thing about you being a Parsel. And my brothers and I are not entirely innocent in this. We are so sorry!

My dear Haley,

I am sorry for what your mother did and she has also realised that it was a mistake. You have to understand that she was just very upset about the whole situation and she didn't have her feelings under control and then acted rashly. I know that doesn't really make it any better but I hope you can understand it a little better. It's just negative with your mum because of the past but we had a long talk and I explained to her that it was wrong and she understands that.

I hope you are well Haley. Please write and let us hear from you. We love you no matter what and who you are. You are perfect just the way you are and you don't have to change for anyone!

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've answered you, but I'm sure you understand that it's been hard for me too. I am grateful for your words but it is hard for me to take them seriously. I don't know if you are aware of what my mother has done with this howler, but I don't want to talk about it any further.

I will get back to you as soon as I feel ready and please do not send me any more letters until then. I don't want to receive any from mother either, I won't read those.

Anyway, I know you're sorry and it wasn't intentional but this is just too much right now. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't angry with you.

I trusted you with my secret and you have been so careless with it that it is no longer a secret. I'm sorry, but I need some space for now.

Dear Haley,

I'm sorry that I'm answering so late, but as they say, life got in the way. But of course I haven't forgotten you and so of course I would like to answer your questions.

I live on the Isle of Man in a big maison with some of my friends, we are a kind of community here. You should visit us sometime, then I can show you everything here. It's really big and also the lands behind it. That would be way too much to describe in a letter.

I'm sure you already know a lot about our family history and at some point it just came to a point where we had different views. We just reached a point where we had to go our separate ways. But that's okay, everything in life comes as it must. Sooner or later others will realise that this is the right way.

And just because I no longer have contact with your grandmother or the rest of the family doesn't mean I don't care about you. Indeed I am, and of course I would like to meet my granddaughter. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to make contact earlier. Your grandmother and mother avoided all contact, no reply came to letters and as I mentioned before, I only found out by chance that you were even born. But I knew that one day you would be at Hogwarts and that my letters would reach you there. It took a lot of patience, but it was worth it.

But tell me, how do you find it at Hogwarts? Are you having a good time there? Which house did you end up in?

Dear Godric,

Thank you for your letter and your openness. It all sounds very interesting and it annoys me that my mother made this decision for me. After all, it is my right to decide for myself who I want to meet and who not. But she doesn't have that power anymore and I'm glad you didn't give up.

Unfortunately, I have to confess that I don't know much about our family history and it's not because I'm not interested. In fact, I am very interested but no one sees fit to finally tell me something about our family. You can't imagine how annoying that is. But maybe you could tell me something? I would really appreciate it.

I love Hogwarts, it's home to me but I have to admit it hasn't been very nice here lately. It's a long story but to cut it short: I received a howler from my mother and now about the whole school knows about a secret of mine. I get a lot of scared looks and whispers when I walk down the corridors. But I will get through that too. I won't let them get me down.

I ended up in Gryffindor. The sorting hat was a bit torn between Slytherin and Gryffindor, but in the end it was Gryffindor.

Dear Haley,

I don't know how to say this, but it's really a shame that you don't know anything about your own family. And this is not your fault, of course, but I can't believe that your mother was so reluctant. She's always had a mind of her own and, above all, a stubborn mind.

I am more than happy to take over and tell you about the Rose family. You must know, there are many exciting stories but let's start with some basics. The Rose family has been a Pureblood family for centuries and our family tree is really big. There have been some great wizards that have come from our family. Who have achieved great things and also possessed many talents. Over and over there was a very special talent in our family. The talent to talk with snakes. Have you ever heard of parseltongue? But it's been a lot of time since the last Parselmouth in our Family.

I am really sorry that you are currently going through a difficult time. Your mother probably didn't think through her actions again. That's always been her problem. But let me tell you Haley, don't let this get you down! I don't know what the howler was about but always remember that you are a Rose! You are special, let the others say what they want. And believe me, sometimes it's good when others have respect and a little fear for you.

What a surprise, the first Rose in Gryffindor. I'm glad you like it there. But I'm not surprised that the hat saw you in Slytherin, too. You must know, all our ancestors were in Slytherin. Well, until the day your mother went to Hogwarts. I'm sure you'll know that she was in Ravenclaw.
