Let's Get This Over With
Rose was about to be cussed at, not that she minded. She didn't expect the girl to stop herself, though she supposed Lucia was at a much more reasonable state of mind than Rose was. Rose was just going off on everybody, and Lucia was just defending herself. If Rose had been in her position, the word might just have slipped out. She didn't really care when people cussed. She had friends who did it much more than her, and she didn't think any less of them because of it. Rose just didn't want to be the kind of person who cussed, or to let it go too far.
However. It did actually hurt when she realized that whatever Lucia was about to call her, she was probably right.
Rose may have gone too far with the "allowed bullying" part. Rose and Eyre had technically agreed to be allowed to be bullied, and they would have done the same thing in Lucia and Logan's position. Not that Rose liked it, though.
With Lucia's next comment, Rose realized that she was right again. Rose was the bully here. Rose was the villain, lashing out at people just because she was having a bad day. She was the one instigating. She was the one who was being mean, being rude, and ruining Lucia's perfectly good day. Not that Rose enjoyed it in the slightest- she was just making things worse for the both of them.
And Rose hated herself for it.
Maybe Rose was wrong about Lucia. Maybe this wasn't Lucia's fault. Lucia was a good person, right? Maybe if Rose apologized, they could start over. Have a second chance.
"Look..." Rose started, with a sigh, but she didn't ever get to finish. Lucia announced that she was going to the bathroom and left.
Now, if there's anything that you can do to make Rose hate you more, it's one- hurt her friends, and two- leave her alone to do work that isn't hers.
Fox and her were supposed to be doing this together! They had been assigned this together! She couldn't just hide out in the toilets until class ended because she was a coward. Well, actually she could. Not that Rose liked it.
Maybe Rose was right about Lucia! But also wrong. Double wrong. Right? Rose had been originally right about Lucia, and wrong when she thought she had been wrong.
Rose had three choices- fail the potion, giving Lucia a bad grade, tattle on Lucia if the girl was gone too long, or do the potion well out of the "goodness" of her heart. The first option was tempting, but would end in her own bad grade, so Rose eliminated that one fairly quickly. The second was a horrible plan, set up to make Rose hate herself even more.
Even though Fox was a jerkface, maybe Rose owed her at least this for starting the argument. Rose had been uncalled for, after all.
Rose sucked it up, and finished the potion, quite well, actually, but still fuming about the nature of their interaction.
