01.24.21 → ic datebanner credit goes to lucia fox♡ ouch! ♡Her spell was easily avoided by Dmitri, not that she was surprised much, him being a captain and all had to mean he was undoubtedly good. Frost gave a small 'hm' at his words. Not the brightest of the bunch, she took a second to wonder what elementary meant. Wasn't that a school level? Either way, like all insults, Frost didn't much take offense. The spell slowed her down in her last match, so she had deemed it useful, but maybe he was right.
His spell though had left her in awe long enough to distract her, the controlled split wind ripping at her and battering her body. "Woah," Sure it hurt, but holy crap was that cool or what?
A small frown formed after hearing the way Dmitri talked to- Ruby, was it? Lea and herself would only speak kindly to each other and reassured one another, as equals. It was unfamiliar to her, though their dynamic was not for her to judge, they had still been one of the best pairs. Part of her wanted to tell Ruby that it was alright and that there was always the next round, but then she had realized that they were supposed to be her opponents.
She glanced at Lea, thankful that she had not been hit. Pushing through the gusts of wind was difficult, especially for a girl with her strength- more like lack thereof- but Frost readied her wand once more.action as strategized and sent by owl

She didn't understand how Frost could be so cheerful in such an overwhelming environment. Maybe it was because of being a first year amidst fourth years and a third year, but Lea didn't feel like she was supposed to be here. At least having a duelling partner was helping the situation, but it still felt very strange. A glare was offered in reply to the smirk, but it held none of its usual power or stubbornness.
She decided to remain vigilant first, unsure of what spell would be useful in this starting situation. Of course, putting it off wouldn't make the decision any easier, but it gave her some time to ponder her admittedly limited options. Frost attempted a spell, but it missed. A rather unfortunate way to start, but it wasn't that bad. A concentrated gust of wind would form and split, the first year able to side step it before it hit. Her fellow hufflepuff didn't get such luck, a wince as it battered the fourth year. "You alright?" Hopefully it hadn't been too bad.
Brown eyes would dart back to the slytherins, prepared for the next spell that might come their way. But it didn't, not yet at least. Strange. Watching them curiously, the girl would stand up again, out of her slightly crouched position. Time to figure out what to do next.

This time, everyone had chosen to cast. And more than that, both of Snakes had their eyes set on all available targets. Two masterfully casted spells—Wind Jinx and Disarming Charm—blasted towards each Hufflepuff. Mars let out a low whistle as Frost managed to sidestep both of them, even as the wind whistled against her. Lea, on the other hand, was not as fortunate. She would feel the same gust that hit her teammate before feeling her wand fly out of her hand.
Luckily, her spell had left the tip before it left her. Mars watched as it arced towards Dmitri—then, their eyebrows shot up as it veered off towards Ruby. Maybe it was the surprise, but the Slytherin couldn't avoid it. She'd find herself levitated several yards off the ground at Lea's discretion. Frost aimed a spell of her own at Dmitri but he dodged it, the Tongue-Tying Spell flying harmlessly into the distance.

There's nothing that Dmitri appreciates more than equivalent exchange, and as he took Lea's prior dodging as a personal affront to his skills, he felt quite a lot of glee in seeing her receiving the full brunt of both his and Ruby's spells.
He turned to his teammate. "See, that wasn't so hard, was it? Imagine if you somehow managed to keep that up—we might still win." Dmitri said coolly as if there was any shred of doubt in his mind. Getting back into the standard duelling stance, the Slytherin Captain once again pointed his chestnut wand at his opponents. "And if I'm feeling generous, you might be conscious enough to witness it!" He called to the Hufflepuffs, breathing out a dark chuckle.
They wished.

01.24.21 → ic datebanner credit goes to lucia fox♡ ouch! ♡What was even cooler than Dmitri's first split spell was Ruby and his split spells. It was amazing, both together and both powerful. But this time, Frost was just a little more on edge. Both of the split spells she managed to dodge. But Lea, not so much.
Her wand had flown and she had taken some damage. Frost hoped she was okay, Lea having been hit by the same spell that she was earlier. After hearing what Dmitri had said, Frost could conclude that she liked his attitude, even though it wasn't all too good for the Huffle girls. His laugh had been kind of threatening, though.
Perhaps the girls could push through and get a second hit! Next round, maybe. They would sure try.action as strategized and sent by owl

Of course watching the spells actually hit- and hurt- made the two all the more impressive and scary. That was the problem with being a first year- or rather them being third and fourth years- they could be mean and scary, yet actually have skill to back their confidence.
Meanwhile Lea had a spell that went astray but managed to hit the other opponent- was that considered impressive? Currently yes- the hufflepuff had not expected to hit anyone once it started veering away. Maybe it had been the force of getting hit by compressed wind and starting to lose her wand to the ground that made it hit. Levitating someone off the ground wasn't nearly as exciting, though, when hardly being able to move due to a strong wind continuing to batter against her. It made sense why Frost had been impressed before, but still- it was annoying.
Brown eyes were quick to look away from the slytherins as she watched her spell hit and their spells only hit her. Frustration was easy to find when someone didn't understand why they could be so fearful of the opponent- it wasn't as though she hadn't duelled before. Glances would dart between her wand, the slytherins, Frost, and the air in front of her (as though she could see the wind forcing her in place), deciding on what to do first.

Mentioning (briefly): @Frost Cira and @Lea HirschThe two Slytherins cast, splitting their spells, and while they missed the older Hufflepuff, both their spells managed to hit the younger one. There was a flash of satisfaction as that happened, a sense of pride lingering within Ruby as the frustration of missing a spell was partially avoided. Dmitri seemed determined to give her a hard time about not casting when everyone else did the first time, and she rolled her eyes. “Somehow managed to keep that up?” she repeated with a sneer. “It was one time. We won last duel and we'll win this one too, no question.”
She turned and looked at the Hufflepuffs with disdain. She could easily handle them, she'd show Dmitri. He was making her out to be useless, when she was certain she was anything but. Next round would continue to be effective for her, she was sure of it. That little Hufflepuff who was currently levitating her would get decimated, being lifted into the air was hardly a deterrent and she wouldn't be providing the younger girl with any satisfaction that could come from her struggling in the air. She was stuck up here for now, but it wasn't a particularly bad feeling, like flying but without a broom and with less control.Doing as strategised

Mars watched with nervous apprehension as the Hufflepuffs faced the Snakes. Lea was effectively nullified for the round, wand gone from her hand. As a result, Ruby fell from her place in the air with a rather unwieldy thud, but she didn't seem to worse for wear. On the contrary, the two gusts of wind that blew from her wand were as powerful as ever. Luckily, both Frost and Lead managed to evade this time around.
Sharp eyes followed Frost's returning Incendio Duo, just barely grazing by Ruby. Mars exhaled, drumming their fingers against their thigh. Only Dmitri was left now. It had to be the split spell again... of course. The familiar blue flash of Flipendo rocketed towards both the Badgers. Frost evaded careful, the light winking out behind her but Lea—perhaps still trying to fight again the Wind Jinx of earlier, she wasn't able to escape it as it smacked her in the chest.
As the Hufflepuff fell to the ground, Mars raised a hand, beckoning the medical crew on the side to usher the First Year away. They grimaced as the team left, eyes scanning over the remaining duellists. It wasn't over yet.

"Oof! That might leave a mark." Dmitri remarked, grimacing a bit as he watched the First Year Hufflepuff ragdoll towards the ground. Guess she can't see us win while conscious, now, can she? The Slytherin boy chuckled to himself. Sorry I lied.
"You know, Cazares, I will let that deplorable Wind Jinx pass. I can't even be mad." Seeing as he has not missed a spell so far this duel, he did not have time to argue about his partner's casting skills while one of his opponents stayed standing. A stray piece of lint on his shirt would keep him busy for a few beats before he shot his teammate an almost sinister grin.
"Let's end this."———
