Easy Going
Flash was an observant person. Less so when he was tired, but more so when he was frightened. The idea of hurting someone's feelings frightened him, made him alert. He felt like he was in his first year again, trying to be immaculately easy to get along with. She started to look angry, offended. This had been so easy before, their conversations as light and easy as candy floss. Now it felt like resentment was growing. Although he didn't want to, the thought crossed his mind-- This doesn't work.
The truth was, his brother Darius had told him to try dating a girl as 'practice'. He framed like he could get better at dating if he tried it a few times. He should have known better than to take advice from a guy who could never settle down, but he had felt so conflicted since he started making friends. He clearly wanted attention, closeness, and love. He liked making Anastasia blush, loved to dance with her, but it wasn't really any different than being friends. He wasn't sure what the classification of boyfriend and girlfriend really did for them. In fact, it felt like it made everything worse.
She grumbled under her breath, saying everything was fine. It was such a bold faced lie, Flash could almost be offended himself. "No... I'm sorry." Flash apologized, though even he didn't know what for exactly. "There's clearly something wrong."
He finally said it out loud, the things he didn't want to acknowledge. "How can I help? What should I be doing?" Though, instead of what he should have done, such as admit that they should stop the charade, he buckled down. After all, what kind of boyfriend would he be if he gave up at the first sign of trouble? He needed more practice.
