How High?
Aaron felt quite embarrassed as the professor went on about their poor timing, and the dangerousness of the whole situation. He looked down at the floor, thinking about how Syl had been essentially telling him the same thing, and now he was going to get in trouble too just for trying to stop him. Aaron had been a really awful friend in this instance. As he waited for news of their fate, he still couldn't help just hoping he didn't get his player status taken away. He would be fine with detention, just kicking him off the Quidditch team. Preferably not taking his broom either. Surely what they had done wasn't so bad as to warrant that punishment.
Aaron's eyes lifted at last when he heard the professor speak of them going back to their dorms. Did that mean..? But no, Professor Chiadovini explained that he would send an owl about their detention. So they were going to be punished after all. Couldn't blame Aaron for hoping.
Aaron nodded when Syl said they should go, and he followed behind the Ravenclaw prefect obediently. The mention of getting kicked off the team made the young Hufflepuff boy grimace. Hearing the words spoken aloud was much worse than just thinking them. But the two of them were soon gone from the Astronomy professor's domain, and that seemed like a non-option now. Good thing, too. Aaron's grip on his broom only tightened as they walked, keeping his head down in shame. He really felt bad about getting Syl in trouble, and wouldn't blame him if he was upset.
"I'm the sorry one!" Aaron blurted out, finally lifting his head when he heard Sylvain's apology. "You and the professor were right, it was a silly idea. I shouldn't have tried it," he elaborated, offering a small smile upon realizing that Sylvain didn't seem particularly mad. "Thanks, though, I think maybe sharing the blame helped keep me from getting off the team, even though you don't deserve the detention."
Aaron grinned as Syl joked around about bragging rights. His chest was starting to ease from the tightness it had felt, and he was relaxing as they descended from the tower towards the ground floor of the castle. Although he was mildly worried about the upcoming detention, in this moment Aaron was just relieved about Sylvain not holding the whole incident against him. The Ravenclaw even went so far as to joke again. "Definitely," Aaron agreed with a small laugh.
