The Seeds of Conflict PV Finished

Gabriella winced. From the expression on Tory's face, she could tell Tory thought she thought she was really offending her. In reality, she knew her angry retort had been awful - far worse than Tory calling her a disgusting little rat - so she knew she would have to think up a better one this time. Luckily, she now had one at her fingertips...

"Your personality reminds me of trash bins and dried out fruit!" Tory barked. Gabriella laughed.
"Is that seriously the best you can do?" she cried. "Trash bins and dried out fruit? I'll have you know dried out fruits are a delicacy in many places around the world." Quickly, thought of the insult she had concocted earlier and ran it over and over in her mind.

You have all the charisma of a frog. No, you can do better, Gabby... After a few seconds thinking, she blurted out her insult, hoping that the pause didn't seem too unnatural. "At least I don't have the same wit and charisma as a shrivelled leaf!" She winced again to herself. Too long, she thought. Just 'a leaf' would have done it... but the damage was done now, and it was better than calling someone a piece of fruit, anyhow.

Now all she had to do was hope Tory didn't throw another insult her way - all she had left now was that Shakespearean insult she didn't even know the meaning of.

"Shriveled leaf? Thats uh...creative.." Tory muttered. She knew calling somebody dried fruit wasn't much better, but she cracked under pressure. Which is why she decided not to attempt to think of something clever to say back. She didn't want it to backfire and end up like her horrible "You disgusting little rat!" comment.

Instead, she aimed for a bit of a kinder approach. Gabriella and her would never be friends at this point, but at least she could try to make it so they wouldn't hate each other's guts. That's not a very good idea, your going to end up making it worse! She debated in her head. You should! Be kind, and be the change you want to see! "Er..." She said unconfidently, knowing that whatever she said Gabriella would probably find a way to one-up. It was getting late, and Tory just wanted to go eat. Eat a nice warm meal in the great hall, and then cozy up with a nice book next to the fireplace in her common room. Getting lost in her fantasies, Tory snapped back.

"Look, Haworth. Unless something interesting happens I'll happily be on my way and make sure to never come in contact with you-" Tory began, but before she could continue a few very tall older kids came speeding through the halls, knocking her off her feet yet again. This time, she was right in front of Gabriella, Tory's head at her feet. She angrily winced. How could this possibly happen to me twice! I've never gotten knocked down in the middle of the hall before- I'm telling you this Gabriella is bad luck- She thought, furious.

“We didn’t know were making memories, we just thought we were having fun.”

Gabriella smirked as Tory lay there on the floor. What had Tory been about to say? Unless something interesting happens I'll happily be on my way and make sure to never come in contact with you... was Tory trying to make up with her?

For a moment, Gabriella considered it - after all, she didn't want to get into another fight, and end up using that one Shakespearean insult - but why would she want to be friends with Tory? Sure, maybe Gabriella had been a bit rash at the start of their encounter, but at this point, Tory was definitely in the wrong. Definitely, no doubt about that. And now she was trying to make it up with her? The cheeky little-

Gabriella stopped herself, before she could say the word in her head. Even if she didn't say it out loud, that would be the second swear word she had said to herself that day, and - even miles away in Portsmouth - she knew her mother would not approve.

"Get up," Gabriella spat, instead of answering Tory. "There's no use in squirming on the floor like an idiot." She paused for a moment. Maybe I should reconsider... I just want this awful encounter to be over with...

"Fine," she snapped. "I'll leave you alone, if you leave me alone. But if we ever meet again - don't expect me to be civil." She narrowed her eyes at Tory - still on the floor - then stormed out, hot tears of anger streaming down her already grubby face.
