Lucy turned to Amadea, but she sighed when she heard her response. Okay, so she'd go after Ami. That was fine. Lucy pivoted to look at Ami, grinning expectantly. Her grin slowly morphed into a frown of  bewilderment as Ami also communicated that would not be helping clean it up. These two shy Hufflepuffs seemed a bit uncertain of their magical capabilities. Lucy's cheeks flamed red as she blushed in embarrassment. She hadn't meant to show off or put them on the spot, and now it was awkward. She stood there for a few moments, helpless as to what to do. She didn't want to finish repairing the cabinet herself - it seemed arrogant and stuck up after their responses.

"Well, that's okay," she responded slowly, glancing around the room. "We can just sweep up the rest of the glass and let a house elf know about the mess. I'm sure they could mend it much faster than we could, anyway." She tried hard to muster up her cheerfulness again, but it was a bit forced. She pocketed her wand and began touring the room, looking for a broom. Not surprisingly, there were none to be found. She turned back to her companions. "Does anyone know where we could find said broom? Or should we just go find a house elf and let them know about the accident?" she searched both of their faces for answers, lost as to how to proceed.

Amadea felt bad now. She could tell Lucy was trying hard to help, and she wished there was more she could do. She just didn't want to look like a fool in front of the other girls. She had minimal practice with magic and had yet to feel confident casting spells. She wished she could do something to help out more.

Lucy then suggested getting a house elf. She thought it over. It sounded like a good idea. Unless the house elves tattled. "Do you think we'll get in trouble for breaking this glass case?" she asked. "Maybe we should just try to fix this up ourselves? It'll be less suspicious if we just put everything back, right?" She shrugged. "Or maybe we should get a house elf." She looked around for a broom. There seemed to be none in the vicinity. She quickly ran out to the hall and found a broom propped up against the wall at the end of the hallway. She ran and grabbed it, bringing it back to the room. She handed it to Lucy, unsure of what to do next. She smiled at Lucy, hoping that her spirits hadn't completely been ruined. Amadea was terrible at this.

"Wait." Ami frowned in thought. "There are house-elves here? And they do everything? I'm sorry, I'm just-" Ami rubbed her head, confused. "I'm not really used to all of this magic and stuff- which is probably evident in my lack of Mending Charm know-how."

What were house-elves? She thought she'd heard someone mention them once before, but she didn't remember much about them. Were they, maybe, the jack-of-all-trades of this school? Groundskeeper, cook, cleaners, and security rolled into one? Hogwarts is infinitely confusing, Ami decided, still trying to remember where she'd put her wand. She swore that she'd put it somewhere safe the last time she'd seen it...

"Here, let me-" Ami insisted, reaching for the broom, feeling somewhat useless just standing there. She grabbed it from Amadea and started sweeping the glass shards into in a neat pile, and gestured to Lucy's wand. "Do you think you can..." here, she mimicked a wand-waving, zapping motion in the general direction of the pile of glass, "Do you want to try that Mending Charm again? You're really good at magic, Lucy... plus, I really don't want to have to go tell someone about how ridiculously clumsy I am," she smiled sheepishly, blushing.

Lucy smiled, pacified by the effort of Amadea. The Hufflepuff clearly wasn't trying to be unhelpful, and she even located a broom in the hallway. Amadea was very resourceful, and Lucy felt a surge of affection overcome her previous annoyance. My goodness, stop being so high and mighty, she chided herself, frowning as she did so, attempting to be serious and make note of this incident. Always assume the best of those around you.

Lucy jumped a bit when Ami asked about house elves. Lucy was confused for a second before she realised that Ami must be from a Muggle family. Wow, that would be so hard to not know anything about the wizarding world! Lucy thought, her eyes widening. She had the urge to take Ami under her wing, which was a bit ridiculous because Lucy probably didn't know much more than the curly-haired girl would figure out in a month or two.

"Uh, yeah," she responded, smiling reassuringly as Ami took the broom from her. "House elves are kind of like... uh... servants, I guess. They do a lot of things. But they don't do everything!  They mainly cook and clean. They kind of keep everything running behind the scenes. You don't see them much." She shrugged. She personally hadn't thought too much about them, and she had only caught a glimpse of them while she had been here.

With the encouragement from Ami, Lucy pulled out her wand again. "Well, I think I might have gotten lucky the first time. But there's no sense in just letting all this glass just sit here when I could at least try to repair it. Okay. I'll try again, but there's no promises it wasn't a complete fluke!" She laughed, trying to cover her nervousness. Now that she had successfully performed the spell, she knew she'd look like a total dweeb if she couldn't do it again.

She squared her shoulders, raising her wand arm and clearing her thoughts, listening to the gentle tinkling of the glass and the rhythmic brushing of the bristles on the broom. She closed here eyes for a moment and imagined the glass fusing together and flying back into its pane in the trophy case. Opening her eyes, she declared, "Reparo."

The glass started fusing together, but this time Lucy held her wand arm steady and focused her mind on the next step. Fuse together and go back into your spot, she repeated to herself, trembling a bit from attempting to block out everything else. To her delight, the repaired pane picked itself off the ground and she slowly raised her wand arm to follow the movement as it settled into its spot in the upper left hand corner. She paused for a beat, and then two. All at once, she exhaled and jumped in the air, pumping her fist.

"YES!" She yelled, stoked at her success. "That's the best I've ever done it! So cool!" She gave a little hop over to Amadea, grabbing her arm and shaking her slightly in excitement. "SO COOL!" she repeated, louder, and unfortunately much closer to Amadea's face.

Realising that she was acting a bit wild, Lucy sucked in a breath as her eyes grew wide, trying to contain her excitement. She slowly blew out and took a step away from Amadea, grinning sheepishly. "Sorry," she laughed a little in embarrassment. "I've just never done a spell that good before."

To be honest, Amadea didn't know that much about house elves herself; she didn't really know much about the wizarding world at all. The little she had learned from her great grandmother was in the back of her mind, but no one else in her family had any idea about magic at all. Lucy seemed very educated about the wizarding world. She would have to remember that. Thankfully, it seemed as though the tension had left the room and the girls were more at ease. She listened as Lucy explained what house elves were and wondered where in the castle they wre. She would love to meet one someday.

She was still awkwardly holding the broom which seemed useless now as she watched Lucy brandish her wand again. Maybe the spell would work better this time. Amadea watched the Hufflepuff's technique as she cast the spell and the glass flew together, repairing itself as if it had never been broken. Every time she saw magic being performed it took her breath away. It might sound stupid, but it really did amaze her. She couldn't wait to be able to perform magic herself; she only knew a few basic spells.

Then Lucy yelled out and hopped up and down, grabbing onto Amadea's arm and screaming in her face. Startled, Amadea jumped back and widened her eyes. Then the other Hufflepuff realized she was being a bit loud and apologized.

"No, don't worry about it," Amadea assured her. "It was just surprising that's all. And congratulations! That was great spell casting!"

Ami gasped in amazement as Lucy swished her wand and the glass pane pieced itself back together, swiveling itself back into its frame. "How did you even-" Ami shook her head, sighing. "Wow. Yeah, um, there's no way I would've been able to do that. Lucy, that was probably the coolest thing I've seen today." And the way the glass shards caught the light as they spun in midair, reflecting miniature rainbows upon the stone floor... the colors were breathtaking. Sheet glass could do that, sometimes. Tempered, however, might not have broken when Ami ran into the glass case- it might have cracked a little, but it most likely wouldn't have shattered as dramatically as the sheet glass had. But these odd noticings would never pass her lips, not in the company of others. For now, she'd keep her nerdy thoughts to herself, thank you very much.

Opening up the back of the glass cabinet, Ami carefully replaced her mother's plaques that she'd knocked to the ground earlier. Thankfully, they hadn't shattered, and they hadn't gotten scratched, so that was a miracle within itself. With a certain tenderness, Ami angled the plaques so they'd catch the best light, and shut the display case satisfactorily.

Lucy smiled at Amadea's accolades. She wasn't above being appreciated, especially when her skills were still developing. "Thanks," she grinned in appreciation at the girl. "It was mainly luck. I can't wait to see your skills in action. Hey, don't we have Charms together?" she asked, suddenly recalling seeing the girl out of the corner of her eye. "I think you sit behind me and to the right. Or I sit in front of you and to the left!" she laughed, getting slightly confused at her lack of precise language.

She turned, grinning at Ami's response to her spellwork. A burst of pride exploded in her chest at her response, but it was quickly tamped down with sympathy for the shy girl. "Well, there's no way you'll be able to do it without your wand! But once you find it you'll totally be able to do just as good!" Lucy declared confidently from her spot next to Amadea.

Lucy watched Ami put the plaques back in the now-restored display case. "Hey," she began, walking toward Ami, "What were you looking at when the case broke, anyway?" She walked up next to Ami, peering at the plaques. "Abella Marie, Slytherin Head Girl," Lucy read aloud. She shrugged, turning to Ami. "I've never heard of her. Pretty name, though. Do you know her?"

Amadea shared in Ami's amazement at Lucy's skills in charms. Amadea wished she was as skilled at the Hufflepuff was at fixing things, but she definitely didn't feel confident enough to fix anything quite yet. She had barely learned any charms through her classes and she hoped that she would learn more soon so she didn't feel just as useless as she did at the moment.

Then Lucy mentioned something about being in the same charms class. "Hmm, are we?" Amadea asked. "Sorry, I feel like I should remember that, but to be honest I didn't really know anyone so I didn't pay attention to who was in my class. Next time I have class though I'll look for you. It probably won't be hard," she tried joking, "I'll just look for the best spell caster in the room!"

She followed Lucy's gaze toward the plaques that Ami was now placing carefully back into the case. The way she handled the medals and the way she had reacted when she broke the display case made Amadea think that she must have some connection to the witch given the awards. Amadea stepped closer to read some of them. The one Ami was putting into the case read Abella Marie, Slytherin Head Girl. She was about to say something when Lucy asked the question Amadea had been wanting to but hadn't for fear of overstepping boundaries. They had only just met each other, and Amadea didn't want to start off by seeming intrusive or anything. She was glad Lucy had asked the question for her.

"Abella Marie..." Ami said slowly. "Yes, of course I know her. She's my mom." She sighed heavily, stepping away from the glass case. "Isn't it ironic the one person I look up to the most, my number one role model, is the exact opposite of who I am? Even the houses we were sorted into... sometimes I wonder how we're even related." Glancing at the case, she added, "She's just so talented and flawless. Hell, those plaques are hard, physical evidence of that."

Laughing gingerly, Ami continued on, "Thank you, by the way, for helping me clean this whole mess up. I don't think I'll be able to ever say that enough for it to truly represent my gratitude, so I'll just leave it up to your imagination. Enough about me, though. Miss Lucy, what did you come to see in this glorious trophy room?" Ami waved her arms in a general sweeping motion, gesturing to the rest of the room. "There's certainly quite a number of things to choose and pick from. I'm sorry if I disrupted your browsing tour of the trophies." Turning to Amadea, she added, "And what did you come looking for? Do you guys have family names in this room?"

I am SO sorry for my late reply. It has been forever! I didn't intentionally abandon this RP - life just got busy! Please forgive me. I actually really enjoy this thread!

"She's my mom."

Lucy blinked, not quite knowing how to react. Ami didn't seem thrilled about that fact, but Lucy wasn't sure why not. Lucy would be over the moon if her family were half as accomplished as Ami's mother. It would give her some hope that greatness dwelled within her. However, when Ami continued, Lucy started to get a better understanding of where the girl was coming from.

"You know," Lucy said slowly, trying to find the right words, "She created you. If she was talented and flawless, you had to inherit some of that, right? Or even if you didn't, you came from her. If she can't do anything wrong, then surely you're not a mistake. Besides," she continued cheerfully, perhaps forcing a resolution to the situation too quickly, "We're only first years. She's had her whole school life to make a name for herself. We've just begun. So don't worry - you'll find your own place. You don't have to be just like your mum to be a person worth admiring." Lucy smiled at her, resting her hand lightly on her shoulder.

Her mind changed gears quickly when Ami asked her about her presence in the room. "I actually have no idea why I'm in here. I think I wandered in because I had extra time to kill between classes. It's stupid that I can't remember, but I really can't!" Lucy giggled, completely unashamed at her forgetfulness. "My mum won't be in here for sure. She's a muggle. My dad's a wizard, and he's brilliant, but not the kind of brilliant that gets plaques, you know?" She shrugged on shoulder, smiling softly. "I guess my family doesn't worry too much about recognition."

She tried to squelch the desire that burned at the pit of her stomach when she said that. Don't you want to be head girl? it whispered, and she shifted feet uncomfortably, feeling the hot wave of shame wash over her. Did I just lie? I guess I do want recognition... Lucy shifted again, thrown off at how strong her ambition was becoming. "Or we just haven't been recognised yet." She finished lamely, realising she sounded as if she broke off in the middle of a thought. She shook her head, trying to wipe the weird feeling from her body. "Yes, Amadea, why are you here?" Lucy was eager to shift the conversation to someone else.
