Sarah took a few minutes to warm up, stretching out the aches and pains she’d managed to acquire from spending the day prior hunched over a book in the library. She’d been determined to get her Charms essay finished as soon as possible so she could move on to learning any new spell she could find - the banishing charm was next on her list. She’d finished the work, of course, but her back had payed greatly, something she’d realised this morning when she’d groaned rolling out of bed. So, Sarah made sure she properly stretched her back and shoulders as she listened to Anastasia’s words.
The foxtrot, she knew it well. An easy enough style to begin with - one she assumed most here were familiar with. She snuck another glance at the small girl who had borrowed the shoes. Perhaps, not everyone would be familiar with it. A part of her hoped someone else with limited dance experience would walk through the doors so she’d not feel out of place. Going by everyone’s attire, she could assume they all had some form of dance background. She felt a twinge of pity for Lucia, who sat there with wide eyes.
The dance explanation pulled her from her thoughts and Sarah’s eyes fell back towards Anastasia. "Right, I need a partner," She muttered as she glanced around, eyes landing on the blonde who’d brought the spare dance wear. She recognised her from milling around the common room though wasn’t sure if she’d ever spoken to her. I suppose now is as good a time as ever, she mused as she straightened her back and strode over to her with a small smile. “Can I have this dance?” She asked with a teasing grin when she was stood in front of the blonde. A small part of her doubted her own confidence though she didn’t let the smile waver. She agreed, though her joke seemed to sink.
The pair fell into step, moving through the motions as if second nature - to Sarah it practically was. She let the other girl lead to begin with, stepping backwards when she needed to, and then to the side. She let her mind wander for a moment, considering whether the girl had noticed her forever cold hands. She shook the thought away, it was irrelevant, just a musing of her unfocused mind. She forced herself to refocus on the dancing, only now noticing the slight awkwardness in the room. There was something surrounding them, not quite tension, but something. Perhaps it was just her imagination. “I’m Sarah, by the way. I’m not sure we’ve ever spoken before,” She said, hoping to ease herself slightly.

Ashlyn wandered around the hall for a few minutes, unsure of whether she shoul enter the rehersal room or not. After all, she was a bit late to the meeting. Maybe it would be easier to just skip. 'Wait- no... I'm not skipping.', she thought to herself before taking a deep breath and taking a step closer to the door. Slowly, she opened the large door. It was heavy, but she had just enough strength to get it open where she could slip into the room. Once she was inside, she took a minute to look around at all of the other dancers, scouting for anybody that wasn't in a ballet dress and pointe shoes. No luck, she seemed to be the only animation dancer there. 'Well', she thought,'Maybe a few other dancers haven't showed up yet....' It was a big maybe, but there was still some hope. She decided to find a spot to practice some simple finger tutting, and ended up in a corner. It wasn't exactly ideal for her style of dance, but it would have to do, for now at least. There were no people in that specific area so after a few warm-ups, she started practice.

Elisabeth was late, or at least she thought so. When she arrived, a number of girls were practicing. She had no idea whether it was just a warm up or it was a real practice.
Bad time for clubs, she angrily mocked the choice of time. One o'clock. That means directly after lunch, and the food in her tummy was still being digested. And because it was on a weekday, that means she could not have an earlier lunch - and, had to rush to change her robes to dancing outfit, too.
Speaking of which, these students seemed to have real outfits for ballet practice, in contrast with Elisabeth herself. When the eleven-year-old joined ballet clubs back home and back in Muggle elementary school, the instructors were not strict and realised that many parents might not want to spend money on their children's ballet equipment, particularly considering that they were still growing. Real equipment such as a leotard and proper ballet flats were expensive, and since the little ones were still growing, that means their family had to keep purchasing new shoes and clothes if they wanted to keep up with the kids' dancing skills.
The only real ballet equipment Elisabeth had were a pair of shoes, because there was no alternative for them. They were new too, her parents had gifted them to her when she was admitted to Hogwarts. In the past, she used the pairs lent by the clubs.
Elisabeth's clothes consisted of a tank-top, yoga trousers, and simple white socks. These were the clothes her former instructors had recommended for the little dancers and their parents in case they wanted to save money on things other than leotards and tutus.
Snapping herself out of her thoughts on ballet attires, the Hufflepuff decided to wait in the corner until someone motioned or called her to join. In the meantime, she considered it would be quite rude to simply jump in and join the other kids without being invited.

It was honestly fascinating how many different types of girl ended up in the rehearsal room. Carolyn was a bit nervous but definitely excited. The girl she assumed was the president turned out to be one after all and she had a help from another student called Amara. That one looked far less intimidating for sure. Carolyn was used to strict teachers so she didn’t mind either way but it was always nice when there was a balanced atmosphere. Especially since it was a club. It would be way more fun that way.
Foxtrot? Hmm…sounds about right. The witch nodded to herself while doing her warm up routine. She knew how important it was to do so before actually starting to dance. Admittedly the ballroom dance was not her first choice as was probably obvious from her outfit yet she did have fun practicing those once in a while. She didn’t know them all but she did know foxtrot, waltz and tango pretty well. Some others she tried but didn't know that well. Her mother knew Hogwarts held balls occasionally and made sure, her daughter knew what she was doing. It was a lovely experience to learn from both her and her father. One of the few precious times when they spent some quality time together. Carolyn smiled fondly at the memory before realizing she should probably choose a partner. To be fair there was plenty of girls to choose from, some of them looking more excited than others but she only knew one of them.
For a moment the Ravenclaw hesitated because it seemed like Lucia already talked to some other girl. Perhaps they will be dancing together then? She wondered. As it turned out though, it was quite short conversation and the green haired student later chose to dance with Amara, leaving Lucia free to dance with someone else. Carolyn just hoped the raven-haired hufflepuff still remembered her. Their meeting in the ballroom was quite brief after all. “Um…hi Lucia. Would you like to dance with me?” She finally gathered courage to actually ask the girl.

Blame Astrea not for her dramatic choice of dress today for the club meeting, for maybe it was a strange crossing road of strict propriety and a lifetime of the arts, but she didn't have much to choose from that she felt would look applicable. See, her own tutors thrived off the elegance of perfectionistic beauty- she didn't switch from the stiff tutus of classical ballet to the flowy skirts of the romantic without encouragement after all-and so the idea of keeping it casual scarcely crossed her mind until she entered the rehearsal room.
Just slightly late to the game, it seemed that there were others who had came even later than she had and occupied themselves off to the side as if an unsure spectre. Astrea, with all her intimidating aloofness and strangeness that often repulsed many a person from her presence, knew far too well how mind-numbing the idea of arriving somewhere and being self-forced into solitude. The young Slytherin was not one to confront and yet most wearied in hesitated in approaching her, a never-ending cycle of almost that mirrored perhaps many things in her life.
The foxtrot was a simple enough dance, easy to learn and smooth to manuevor, progressive enough to ensure that most would be able to do after even a bit of fumble and yet popular enough to have some meaning for those not so accustomed to ballroom dancing. A perfect beginner, a perfect warm up to gauge experience. Looking at the bunch arranged in front of her- many of them paired up and unfamiliar, some of them dressed much more casual and others with the same flair- it was only logical that Astrea would pair herself up with someone she at least knew to some degree. By that logic there was only one to pick and one to dance- Anastasia Beckett- and to her great luck, it seemed that none had approached the club leader just yet.
The music was one of lulling grace and dulcet instrumentals paired with smooth vocals, less intended for romantics than to set the tone. "Would you care for this dance?" A hand outstretched, all pureblood decorum and easy grace, a polite question whose nature of decisiveness felt illsuited upon her skin even as it seemed as natural as intended outwardly. To those who knew her, she was not one to make the first move but rather the type to wait until the moment was right. But alas she didn't have much of a choice considering the situation and at least this way she could keep it on her own terms.
There was that underlying feeling that her partner was more than likely to lead the dance based on past experience of Ana's temperament alone- the other seemed much more assertive than her own passiveness, though she wasn't sure which one was better. In all seriousness, it didn't matter who was to take either role when they both knew as much as the other and they were going to switch places anyways, but there was some part of her that knew that the other was probably going to lead. Ah well- it wasn't as if she was any less experienced with either, just more comfortable generally not in the spotlight. Right, left, right, together- she had always been good at following a set direction, perhaps that was why it was always easier to settle down solo and work instead of fussing with the complications of others. Right, left right, together- it was easy to fall back into the familiar.

Uzbek: #874343Autumn speed-walked to the first meeting of the On Pointe Dance Club Meeting. Sure, she was late, and sure, she valued punctuality, but she had never been much of a runner. However, this was a first meeting, and regardless of whether or not Autumn thought they should be, they were important. This was not the first impression she wanted to make, but, honestly, who cared? When she had quit dance lessons 2 years ago, she had quit it for good. Apart from an occasional dance in the rehearsal room when she was sure no one was looking, she hadn't practiced much either. She didn't owe it to this club to arrive on time. Except she did. Punctuality was a sign or respect, and if she had voluntarily joined this club, it wasn't a matter of owing; it was a matter of responsibility.
But that didn't matter now. She was here. And now that she was, she was wondering whether she should go in at all. Anastasia Beckett was the president, right? She didn't have the best reputation, and Autumn had watched as she beat up Aden over a small comment. Also, maybe she had been right about dance. Maybe it would be best to not get back into it. Maybe she could just turn around and go to the abandoned bathrooms or the study room. They weren't that far away.
Autumn knew she was making excuses. She just didn't particularly care at that moment. It was decided. She would not atte-
"I'm sure you all are aware of who I am, but for those of you who aren't, I'm Anastasia Beckett. Today we're going to be working on a few simple ballroom dances in honor of the coming ball. So, once you're warmed up, find yourself a partner. Generally, a boy would do the leading bit, but as we obviously don't have any boys, we're all going to do both parts. We'll be starting with a foxtrot to get us all comfortable with one another and warmed up, and then we'll move into some more complex dances."
Ah. Too late now.
Autumn walked in.
Foxtrot, huh? Autumn had seen it performed once or twice. Her aunt had been a fan. But then again, her aunt had been a fan of many dances. Autumn was not too familiar, and she did not have much experience with it, but she was already in the room, although she doubted anybody had noticed her presence for now.
Now she needed a partner. Finding one was not too easy. In fact, Autumn was unable to. She would have to talk to people to do that, and she was willing to make sacrifices for this club, but human interaction? That was pushing it.
She saw Beckett and another older girl move towards each other. They would probably pair up, so Autumn eliminated them. Then, she spotted two second years, one of who was in the duelling team with Autumn. Lucia, she thought it was? Before she could approach the girl, the other second year did. This left Autumn with three girls who she assumed to be younger than her. First years.
One was standing in the corner. Another was standing in another corner, making odd movements with her fingers. The last one had a black scrunchie on and looked like she was more planned for contemporary dance than the foxtrot. Autumn approached none of them, and instead listened to Beckett's instructions, although she knew they wouldn't be much use to her without a partner.

Ana's dance shoes
Ana smiled at @Astrea Soleil Neptune as she approached. It seemed more of the girls were afraid of her than not, and she was rather glad that, at least for the moment, her partner would be someone who shared a similar level of training. The majority of dances intended for balls were graceful and elegant without being overly intricate in terms of footwork. Ana rather liked this, since, especially for more experienced dancers, it meant a pleasant conversation would be carried on while dancing. While there were more complicated variations, this had been the obvious choice even if there wasn't a ball coming up, since it would give Ana a chance to gauge the experience of the members of her club without humiliating them too much. "But of course," Ana replied in a tone of mock elegance. Without needing to discuss it, Ana took the lead and the pair began to gracefully glide across the floor. "How's the term been treating you?"
Ana liked to sort people into categories, generally based on some combination of familiarity, trust, and fondness. The majority of the time, affection came long before trust, as Ana was cynical at best and distrustful at worst. Astrea was one of the few exceptions. Ana didn't know the Slytherin as well as she might like, and yet she trusted her more than others she had spent far more time getting to know. Still, being her distrustful self, she prefered to get to know people before trusting them and now seemed as good a time as any to do so. Despite her treatment of some of her friends, Ana did genuinely enjoy interacting with others and a pleasant, fairly light-hearted chat to better know this ally was certainly not a bad thing.
A glance around the room told Ana that @Amara Dragamior had paired up with the green-haired girl( @Sarah Lightwood), the bird looking girl( @Lucia Fox) had paired up with the one in appropriate dancewear who had introduced herself as @Carolyn Hunt , but more importantly that there were several latecomers who didn't seem particularly inclined to actually dance. "Ladies, get warmed up please," Ana called, managing to keep her slight irritation at their tardiness from entering her voice. "Bracelet( @Romah Neobey ), you're with 61 ( @Ashlyn Winters), and you with the bun ( @Autumn Ivy) and you with the trousers ( @Elisabeth Erner), partner up once you're both warm. We're doing the Foxtrot, if you have any questions or need me to demonstrate again, just ask."
OOC: Here is the dance and music Ana is starting off with for those of y'all who are interested. The next moderation will be December 12. If you want to join but haven't posted yet, no worries, have your character hop in late! As always, feel free to DM with any questions! Below I also have a list of who is partnered with who and who is currently partnerless for ease of reference. I will adjust this as girls rotate and switch partners as the meeting continues, but hopefully, this helps everyone visualize a bit better. The one who is currently leading is above their partner, and the names should represent placement on the dance floor. For example, Ana is partnered with Astrea and Amara is on her left. (Note, Ana shouted partners at those of y'all currently alone, but it is entirely up to you whether or not your character does what Ana says, as Ana is a bit bossy at times.

The green-haired girl from earlier - ooh, Lucia loved her hair - made her way over to the part-Veela, and introduced herself. Lucia held out a hand. "Lucia. Hey," she said, then gave a tiny smile as Sarah complimented her top. "Thanks," the raven-haired girl replied, not elaborating. Was Sarah being sarcastic? She seemed nice, but there was always the possibility...
After a few moments, a girl Lucia knew joined them - Carolyn, a Ravenclaw if the Hufflepuff remembered correctly. Thank Merlin. "Hey Carolyn!" Lucia said, perhaps a little too enthusiastic at seeing someone she knew. "You too." She accompanied the words with a smile.
Anastasia introduced herself - as if everyone didn't know who she was already, with her reputation - and then the dance which they would be doing; ballroom, in order to prepare for the upcoming ball. A smile edged its way onto Lucia's face at the mention - she'd been looking forward to the Autumn Ball ever since the invitations came out. She just hoped that it would go far more smoothly than all of Hogwarts' other balls had apparently been.
"Back, back, right, feet," Lucia murmured under her breath, trying to commit the steps to memory. Hopefully, then she wouldn't look like too much of a doofus.
Suddenly, Lucia noticed that everyone else appeared to be warming up and rolled her ankle around a bit before flexing her toes. That would have to do. Luckily, her 'warm-up' allowed her to not notice the glance which Sarah gave her.
Someone else came in without what Lucia associated with dance wear - finally! She had no idea what the other girl was wearing, but as long as it wasn't a leotard Lucia could feel a little less like a black sheep. She shot the younger girl a little smile.
And - oh! Someone else entered without dancewear either; Lucia gave a smile to her as well.
She was brought out of her small daydream by Carolyn's voice, asking her to dance. "Yeah! Yes, please, thank you," Lucia blurted, grateful that she wouldn't have to hang around by herself until someone took pity on her. At least Anastasia appeared to have a partner already, so no-one could force Lucia to go with her.
Lucia let Carolyn take the lead, and mouthed her silent refrain of "Back, back, right, feet," for the first few moments. But after about ten seconds, she gave up and just let her feet lead her, following Carolyn's steps and counting in her head instead. Back, back, right, feet. Fun, if a little repetitive. The best part though? Lucia and Carolyn were right next to Sarah and the girl who'd offered Lucia some dance shoes. Nice people, it seemed - and the two intimidating older girls (not that Lucia would have admitted that alive) were on the opposite side of the rehearsal room. Good. Lucia intended to keep it that way.
As she danced, an honest little smile hanging onto her lips, Lucia remembered the countless times when she had dug out a dance book at home with pictures - foxtrot had been one of the ones she had tried to learn, but she had quickly discovered how hard it really was to dance out of a book. Once, she had even asked a painting of a dancer in Diagon Alley if she could help Lucia, but she hadn't been able to stay in the wizarding street for ever. Eventually, she had just continued making everything up as she went along, and that was how it had really been ever since.

Amara smiles at the green-haired girl as she walks up. The second-year has seen her around in classes or the common room before but they have never talked. "Lovely to meet you, Sarah. Amara Dragamior. How has second-year been treating you so far?"
The two girls, while they have never spoken, fall into an easy rhythm. The fox-trot is something Amara has been dancing since she could, well, walk. Of course, just because she can dance that does not mean everyone here can. Looking around, Amara takes satisfaction in seeing most people seem prepared. Of course, there is one girl who seems to think this is some urban dancing class, but she is in the minority.
Sending a smug smile towards Anastasia, the blonde is well, proud. It was her first time helping to run a meeting for En Pointe, well really any club, and it is going well.
And step 1 2 3 and step 1 2 3. Amara and green head, no Sarah, keep dancing to the pleasant music. Anastasia repeated the instructions to the latecomers and the wallflowers but other than that, the only noises in the Hogwarts Rehearsal Room are light chit-chat and the classical music.

Carolyn was glad to see Lucia still remembered her. She actually couldn’t help but sigh in relief when the pretty girl accepted her as a dance partner. It appeared Lucia wasn’t an expert when it came to Foxtrot but Carolyn didn’t mind in the slightest. She wasn’t necessarily an expert on ballroom dances herself but she was taught and was fairly confident she could lead her friend through the dance. “Thank you.” She said gratefully before realizing how awkward she must have sounded. It was too late to take it back however and so she opted for a gentle smile, hoping the girl wouldn’t think too much of it. She was still working on her social skills. Thank god they were mainly here to dance.
The young Ravenclaw let Lucia finish her warm up while listening to Anastasia’s instructions. It was apparent she was someone who wouldn’t take anybody’s crap. She saw the girls that didn’t move to follow her instructions and within seconds dealt with the situation at hand. Carolyn wasn’t sure whether that approach would prove to be helpful or grow a bit annoying in the long run but decided to wait before passing any judgement. She hated making assumptions. Instead, she moved her attention back to her dance partner. “Ready?” She asked the girl with a smile. When she received a confirmation, she gently put her palm on Lucia’s back and then joined her hands waiting for the music to start.
Lucia seemed a bit nervous but she helped herself by repeating the steps aloud and managed catch up fairly quickly. Carolyn herself had to focus on her steps at first, as she wasn’t used to be the one to lead. Slow step forward with the left, slow step right, then quick step to the side with my left…now bring my feet together. Thankfully, since she already knew the steps, she only really had to get used to the minor changes. Soon, she was able to guide her partner with steady hands, making sure they didn’t bump into the neighboring pair of dancers. “You are doing good,” she complimented Lucia who seemed to be a quick learner. Carolyn did think they would work well together when she asked her and she’d seen her dance before so she wasn’t too surprised. Her classmate may have not received any professional training but she was clearly very talented and versatile. Carolyn had no doubts she would be a great addition to the club.
