Once Natasha had placed the onions in the cauldron, Amelia stopped inspecting the dried nettles and instead threw them into the cauldron. The Hufflepuff then looked down at the instructions, 'Add a sprinkle of powdered ginger root and stir vigorously again.' The girl nodded, looking around the desk to find the ginger root. Once she had spotted it, she picked it up and grabbed the mortar and pestle she had used previously for the snake fangs. She placed the ginger root into the mortar and started to crush it into a fine powder.

Natasha had spoken, Amelia stilled her movements. "Okay, listen," the girl had begun saying, anger clear in her tone of voice, until Natasha hissed in pain. The Hufflepuff looked up at her, the young witch was holding her hand close to her chest and the Slytherin was doubled over in perhaps pain? Wait, was that blood trickling down her hand? Amelia saw the knife on the desk, it looked like it had a trace of blood on it. Quickly connecting the dots, she started to panic, "Oh god, you just cut yourself. With a knife, that's really sharp. Okay um, maybe you should go to the hospital wing? That'd be a good idea." even though the Hufflepuff was extremely annoyed with Natasha, she would've never wanted the girl to get hurt. "Does it hurt?"

"Okay, that was stupid, of course it hurts." Amelia ran her fingers through her hair, "How about you go to the hospital wing and I'll finish off the potion? You can trust me, I'm not going to blow the cauldron up. You definitely need to get that checked out, that's like a really sharp knife. You don't feel light headed or anything, do you? Oh god no, please don't faint."

Natasha's first instinct was to snap at the Hufflepuff, and simply tell her to mind her own business. And maybe that's what she would've done if her hand wasn't hurting like hell at that moment. Instead, she chose to swallow the snarky side comments about Amelia's rambling, and slowly nodded her head.

"N-no, I'm not light headed... But you're right. I should go to the hospital wing. It doesn't look like it'll stop bleeding anytime soon."

Letting out another hiss, she stood from her stool and walked up to the professor. Their talk took only a couple of seconds; Natasha's hand didn't look good, so she was given permission to leave. The girl felt ashamed. She should've aced this potion, and here she was, forced out of the competition. It was Amelia's fault, if it wasn't for her rudeness... That's what she wanted to believe, but deep down she knew that the Hufflepuff girl was innocent. She did nothing wrong, and Natasha's injury was her own fault.

With a sigh, she returned to their table, and tried to pack her things with her uninjured hand. While doing so, she looked at Amelia, not trying to hide her vulnerability. "I'll leave the potion in your hands then. We'll need to get a good grade, okay? You don't have a partner anymore, so just... try your best"

Try your best, those were the sincerest words she had spoken to a fellow student since she arrived at Hogwarts. And she just hoped the other girl would notice that this time, there was no ill intent hidden.

Amelia glanced anxiously at the girl's bleeding hand, before turning away and instead focusing her gaze on the girl's face - blood made her feel a bit queasy, especially when it was coming out of someone's hand so rapidly you would've thought it was a waterfall. She momentarily forgot about the potion she had to finish before the end of the lesson, too busy worrying about Natasha and if she was going to faint right in front of her from the amount of blood she's lost in such a short timespan. She watched Natasha walk up to the professor, absent-mindedly playing with a loose string on her scarf whilst she waited for the Slytherin girl to return. Once the girl returned, Amelia quickly noticed Natasha's vulnerability while she was struggling to put her things back into her schoolbag. "Here, let me help," Amelia gave the girl a gentle smile, a smile that for once wasn't sarcastic - a genuine, actual smile. Her Hufflepuff qualities were shining through for the first time since they met. She placed the last remaining things in the girls bag, then turned her attention back to the witch beside her.

"Don't worry, I'll try not to mess up the potion. For the both of us." she smiled, "Mostly for you so you won't bite my head off if we get anything below an O." Amelia said sarcastically, she didn't intend to be rude to the girl and only meant it as a joke. Amelia hoped Natasha realized that, but it was a bit too late to take back what she said now. Amelia sat back down on her stool and rested her head in her hand. She looked at the girl for a couple seconds before turning away and becoming quite interested in the table in front of her. Maybe she was too quick in judging Natasha. Truthfully, she did be quite rude to her for really no reason when Amelia was only trying to be friends but Amelia didn't know anything about the girl. She only knew that she was called Natasha and she was a Slytherin. Amelia felt a small pool of guilt forming in the pit of her stomach, she had too quickly painted an image in her mind of what Natasha was - rude. But that probably wasn't the case at all, she had only known the girl for a few minutes. As if a lightbulb had went off inside her head, the girl snapped out of her trance and straightened her back. She turned to Natasha and smiled, "Hey, send me an owl if you don't get back to class before the bell rings, alright? I just want to know if you're okay."
Maybe this could be a good opportunity to get to know Natasha more, most people aren't always what they seem to be on the outside.
