"No," she answered her friend about if there being a reason for joining the dueling club and a little too quickly for her own liking. "I mean...I don't know," she now said honestly. "Part of me liked our study sessions for Charms last year, really learning the accuracy of an incantation. I think that'll help, you know? And then...there's all these clubs here but I'm not a rockstar or a ballet dancer or a pureblood (with her mum being a squib). I'm not into the frog choir or gobstones or quidditch. Maybe it could be a place I belong."
That, and Alina had been more wreckless with things now with Clifton gone. She didn't want to tell anyone out loud but it was like she just didn't give much of a damn anymore about what happened to her. She had her blood disorder which was something that could be truly serious but would that be something that would affect her during a dueling match? She wasn't sure - nor did she intend anyone to know to find out if it would count against her or maybe cause her to be off the team or seriously injured. Seriously injured, ha. She already had been seriously injured ever since Clifton walked away. Nothing could hurt worse and maybe, just maybe, she wished something did so she didn't always have to focus on him.
Time to change the course of the discussion. "What about you? What's making you think about joining?" She knew that Rose would be great at it though. She had seen her cast some great Charms in their First Year, sometimes being one of the first in the class to get something correct. She'd be great at dueling.

"Mostly the same reasons," Rose nodded. "Like, I wanted to hone my skills and get involved in school activities. I wasn't apart of any up till now. And... I have always wanted to do Quidditch, but I wasn't sure that was ever going to happen, and I would probably embarrass myself. I like the ground better anyway." Rose had been passionate and excited about Quidditch for a while there, but as it grew closer, she came to almost dread it. And she didn't want to embarrass herself in front of the entire school, which was probably inevitable. And her anxious mind would be picking it apart for days afterwards, wondering if anyone had forgotten yet. Of course they wouldn't. She was scared of letting her team down, which, she guessed, could still happen with dueling, but at least both of her feet were on the ground. "Plus, I'm pretty decent at Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts, so I can't imagine I could be too horrible at dueling." Rose, as always, insecure about everything.
"I'm sure you'll be amazing though," Rose smiled. "Alina Rosier can accomplish anything she puts her mind to." That was too true.
"I beat you to jumping in the lake, by the way," Rose started casually. "During the first week of school, an innocent first year pushed me in by accident... Oh, and then someone else dared me to jump in." She was saying all of this so casually, as if it was as simple as showing up to class every day. Well, that deemed to be not-so simple for some select people... "It's so cold." she said, laughing. It wasn't loud enough to get shushed by other people- Rose seemed to be able to control at least that. "I'm not even exaggerating, it's like ice water in there." The first time she had been pushed in had not been as freezing as the second time she was dared to. But it was still deathly cold.

Look at Rose. Boyfriend. Happy. Beating her to swim in the Great Lake.
"Sounds like Second Year is going well for you," she said and smiled, glad that her friend was happy. She could never be jealous of Rose because that's what she wanted for her - success and happiness.
She looked around the Library at some of the other students. "Promise me, throughout this year, throughout the Summer, and beyond...that you'll keep in touch?" It was a request somewhat out of the blue and yet not. EVERY person she ever had depended on had walked away from her and she felt it was only a matter of time before Rose and a small handful of others would do the same. "It's so hard, being in different houses and all..."
She looked down, not wanting to sound pathetic and give more details. She already had sounded rather pathetic. "I just...don't want to lose you. You're too good of a friend."
Alina looked to her bag as a distraction and opened it up, grabbed one lemon drop and popped it into her mouth before closing it back up because everything was already inside. Maybe it was time to head out. She already had shown her pathetic side to Rose enough during that trip to the Library and Alina was a girl who didn't like to show weakness.

Yeah. Second Year had been going pretty well. Of course, there was the drama with Anastasia Beckett, which did make Rose anxious. And there was more work than last year, though that wasn't too bad. Yet. She was concerned about Jessica, her little sister, though she knew Jess was strong enough to get through this.
Little did she know that it was only going to go down from here.
Alina glanced around before asking that Rose would keep in touch. Rose blinked in surprise. Without a second of hesitation, she said, "Of course- I promise." Why would she ask that? Did she doubt that Rose would stick with her? Did someone- oh.
Clifton. Bella.
And, it wasn't even just them. There were those that Rose hadn't heard about yet. Juliette leaving. Her dad disappearing.
He had left her. Maybe she wasn't too sure about anyone sticking with her. But Rose had been loyal so far to her. Then again, so had Clive before he disappeared off the face of the earth. She shared that she didn't want to loose Rose, complimenting her and telling her that she was a good friend. "Thank you," she murmured.Rose's eyes shimmered with gratitude- that really meant a lot to her.
Rose wanted to talk more with Alina, about everything and nothing and anything in between. But when she looked up at the clock, she realized that if they didn't hurry up, they would be late to curfew. For some reason, the school was cracking down on that sort of thing. And both girls had a reasonable way to walk to get to their dorms. The people in the library were thinning, and the windows were darkening. Soon the friendly librarian would ask them to leave, anyway. "We should probably get to our common rooms." She quirked up an eyebrow, her expression becoming teasing.. "Unless you have something else planned?" Alina Rosier usually had something up her sleeve. Rose thought back to when she had been taken to the top of the Astronomy Tower and they almost got in trouble. You never know with Alina Rosier.
"We should get together again sometime soon."
