A bird, a chirp, and a tune Finished

Lilith blushed a crimson red thinking about it " I'm not exactly a mermaid more like a ... a lot of things , I'm kinda dangerous to be honest but I mean you no harm as long as you don't catch me on a wolfie night ..."she felt good knowing that someone else knew the stories she grew up with like the little mermaid , and she felt much better knowing that someone thought she was cool because she was not what most people would call cool. Lilith was what most would call a freak even other people with magic who knew that she couldn't make it go away , she was stuck with it . she had worked with many different creatures and almost all of them had been injured and frantic to get away or just very dangerous yet attracted to her presence. many of them had gotten their DNA or some other very odd part of them in her somehow and made her the way she was . basalisk venom had some how failed to kill her so she had that in her , a bleeding unicorn that she saved from a dark forest had accidentally injured her and infected her wound with it's blood , she didn't even wanna talk about what happened with the mermaid ...

"Well, that's still super cool. When you say wolfie, do you mean werewolf...?" Ami's face lit up, and she grinned. "Werewolves are just so cool. I love wolves, they're so beautiful- although, being a werewolf would be a little inconvenient. Y'know, turning into a wolf each month- imagine the clothes you rip! What if you were accidentally wearing your favorite hoodie or something? Then poof! Gone! No more hoodie!"

Ami suddenly turned to Nora, and whispered, "I'm not being insensitive or anything, right? I have no idea what's rude and what's not rude in the wizarding world- werewolves aren't, like, criminals or anything, right? Golly, I feel so uneducated. You probably know so much more than me, ugh. It's time like this where I hate that I was raised a Muggle."

Ami looked back at Lilith, and stared at her for a bit, probably looking creepy. Finally, she gave up, and asked, "What house are you? You're not really wearing any colors, and I haven't seen you around before." Finally, Ami's social anxiety decided to catch up with her, and of course, she started stuttering and second-guessing herself. "I- uh, I- I mean, that- uh, that probably sounds rude...? But, it would be g- good information to know?"

Nora intently listened to all the words that came out of Lilith’s mouth. Everything about this girl was just fascinating. Her experience with magical creatures, her way of being, it was all new to Nora, and she loved it. She had heard whispers of those who acquired traits through the creatures, but they were very rare.

Now with Nora, her expertise came more with normal animals, such as birds, deer, felines, and other sorts. For her, it had all started when she was little and had a baby nightingale. To this day, she doesn’t quite know how she immediately understood the bird, but she had always assumed it was because of her magic. Soon though, when she started telling her parents and brothers of this, they would always look at her with the same face, telling her it was probably her wild imagination. Nora highly doubted this, but stayed quite. She didn’t want to disappoint her parents did she?

Her attention snapped over to Ami and the question she had asked. Kindly, Nora quietly relayed back to her,” Don’t worry, being uninformed isn’t usually seen as rude, just a sign you may want to brush up a bit. As for the criminal thing, that’s just a big ol’ stereotype. I’ve had a few werewolf friends myself, and they’re all real softies at heart.”

Seeing Ami’s anxiety, Nora placed a hand on the other girl’s shoulder to attempt calming her down. Her brothers had always done it to her, and she hoped that it would work with Ami.

Lilith laughed at the girls , she couldn't help it they were just so funny "oh gosh yes I'm quite a rare person and I'm a Griffindor . and yes I mean werewolf I'm quite an odd mix and I know some ... odd magic to say the least " she loved that the girls seemed to like her and were interested in what she could do but she wondered if they would be ok with everything else . her scales faded back into her skin soon enough and her hair turned back to a pastel pink and blue mix. her gills faded away back into her neck . she looked somewhat human again other than all the scars that littered her body and a few fresh bruises , she thought she looked sorta cute but who knows she could have looked worse than a troll . slipping back on her glasses she smiled , Ami's thoughts were loud and concerned for the longest time but the sounds of Nora's thoughts were barely above normal speech and composed of interest and questions . both girls seemed to wonder what Lilith could do and who she was as a person . even without hearing this Lilith knew they were curious . she smiled but it looked more like a smirk , she wished people would calm down about her but she was also glad to be noticed and not ignored .

Ami couldn't help but jump (not flinch- never flinch) when Nora touched her shoulder, but then almost immediately relaxed. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying not to totally freak out. "Gryffindor..." Ami said slowly. "Really? Blast it all. I was hoping you'd be Hufflepuff- y'know, help me out during Professor Lear's classes. I might be able to get an A- wait, y'all still have that type of grading system, right? A, B, C, D, F? Like in America? Or is there a whole nother system I need to get used to?"

The inside of Ami's head was a mess, because honestly, it accurately reflected who she was as a person- afraid of what others might think of her, afraid of what others assumed she was, afraid of failure. She just tried so, so hard, and she didn't know how Hogwarts was going to work out for her. She no longer judged others- instead, she judged herself, and far more harshly than was healthy for people. If someone could read her mind, they'd either feel pity, which Ami wanted none of, or they'd be scared, which Ami also didn't want. Basically, she just didn't want people reading her mind, period.

"why are you so very worried ami , your mind may not always be safe but most people don't know how to listen to your thoughts. not that I'm saying no one does listen , listening to other peoples thoughts is a wonderful pastime to some and a terrible thing to suffer from to others" she sat there ringing out the last drops of water from her hair . she was distracted by a few birds flying around and soon landing in a tree. everyone seemed a bit unorganized and uncertain at this point , everything was changing for the first year students of Hogwarts. some students were just now finding out that they could use magic and others were learning that they needed to tone down their attitude and still there were many others learning other things . there was so much to learn and so many potential new friends to make. the other girls were learning a lot today about how odd this school could be , it got much weirder than merpeople or kitchen elves or even the squid that lived in the great lake somewhere. there were enough odd things on school grounds to write a horror story yet no one bothered , no one knew all of those odd things and what they did know was more of a short story about a fantastic school than a horror story.

Ami's eyes widened. "You can read my mind?" she yelped. "What the heck, Lilith? Why didn't you tell me earlier?" She didn't know whether to be furious that she wasn't given a heads up, intrigued because it was just that cool (I mean, reading minds! Ami thought. I'd love to be able to do that.), or ashamed that Lilith had seen and heard the darkest parts and deepest secrets of her.

Without even thinking about it, Ami had kind of leaned back into Nora, and she was only now noticing it. She blushed bright red, and bolted upright, stuttering out barely coherent apologies. Ami mumbled, "Sorry. It's just... I, um, I did that with Thomas all the time, when he put his hand on my shoulder to calm me down," she explained hurriedly. "And we would pretend to be dating, so Thomas could answer some of the questions people asked for me, while I calmed down and collected my thoughts, because we were just 'that in love'. In reality, that's just how good of friends we are. We are not actually dating," Ami clarified. Again, she chastised herself- stop going so deep and personal. You barely know these girls, why would they want to know your life story?

this girl was awesome , so easily frustrated , and way too sweet. Lilith had never listened to the girl's big secrets , as soon as her thoughts turned dark Lilith faded out of her mind . she wasn't going to torment her like that. she hugged Ami like a long lost sister. "it's so adorable that you think I'd listen in on the dark stuff but to be honest I'm not going to screw around with you like that right now , I was gone before anything got bad" she wanted to listen all day but she wouldn't dare be the villain just yet , she didn't know them well at the moment. besides what kind of person starts acting psycho before they know the person? she might not even take that rout with them , they seemed way to nice . the key word was seemed , she had decided to not mess with them for now but if it turned out that they did something first she would not be able to hold her temper. so many people had been overwhelmingly rude to her so far . taking a breath she calmed down , these girls wouldn't be that insane they had some sense in them , she didn't have to hide or defend herself like that. "if you want I could teach you how to do it..."

Nora had hardly noticed that Ami was resting on her shoulder, or anything else of the sort was going on. She had been listening so intently to Lilith, her attention usually being limited to one person at a time, that the feeling of Ami resting against her didn’t even process. It wasn’t until the girl pointed out the action that Nora finally registered it. Hearing Ami’s nervous stuttering, Nora spoke softly, to make sure not to make Ami feel more bad than she’s probably did,” Hey, hey don’t worry. I did the same thing with my brothers, except you know, the dating part.” The young Ravenclaw laughed softly, her smile broadening. Nora personally found the girl adorable, whoever this Thomas was was very lucky to have her as a friend.

Hearing Liliths comment of her ability of reading minds, Nora was honest-to-stars shocked. People with that sort of gift were exceptionally rare, and hearing that she was standing in front of one of those people made her even more excited. I mean, who wouldn’t be? This girl was basically a mix of creatures and amazing abilities. The look of wonder stayed in Nora’s eyes as she glanced at Ami then back at Lilith, to make sure everything was going ok.
“Lilith you have some pretty mad abilities on you,” Nora laughed her signature soft laugh again and continued,” I wouldn’t be shocked if the Ministry of Magic came right for you after we all graduate!”
Nora’s eyes widened at hearing being able to be taught the skill,”You can teach that! That’s so amazing!”

she nodded happily "back in the war this type of magic was important for many people to learn to either do this or block it from happening to them in cases of emergency , it benefitted and harmed both sides when they needed to protect or gain information from others" she remembered stories of the secrets that while unprotected got out to others and what those secrets were used for. knowing to much was just as dangerous as knowing to little . "one day I hope to be a professor of defense against the dark arts so that I can teach people these skills so they can defend themselves from mental attacks , as both of you are right now I could torture you mentally and maybe even physically , I'm not doing it though right now or any time soon because I'm on your side for now try to make sure I stay on your side though " she figured it might sound like a threat but didn't really care , it was true if they wanted her to not snoop around then they would at least try to keep her on their side from now until the last school year. not a threat really , just a ... push.
