A Book And A Lake Closed

Mariah blushed pink at the mention of romance novels, but was silently thrilled. Someone who liked what she liked was always relieving. It reminded her she wasn't a complete weirdo so as 5he girl spoke on about poor taste in clothes, Mariah reached into her bag and pulled out her backup book. She'd have her mother send her more with her next package.

The front cover had a ship bracing the sea, rocking against the turmoil of waves. Upon the ship were a man and woman, locked in each others arms in comfort and fear, each of them wearing a pirate hat. The title read "The Storms Of The Heart".

"Here," she offered with a smile. "I haven't read that one yet, so I'll expect it back later." Her voice came off stern, but the hint of playfulness shone through. Mariah was a kidder. She joked quite often with people using stern voices and sass. It just didn't occur to her that sometimes she actually sounded serious. "Mum says it's good, but she likes more love than adventure, so I wouldn't be too sure. I like a heavy dose of both, personally."

She shrugged, as if it were no matter and held the book out to Peach.
