“I’m Mars.” Said the person sitting across from Eyre. “I know Cash but I don’t think I got your name” they said. “I’m Adlai, Adlai Rod.” She said with a smile.
“I like your pin.” She commented before Cash spoke again.

Adlai was a bit taken back. Cash had quite the iron tongue. She was about to say something to them when instead Mars spoke. At least someone in this compartment wasn’t in a bitter mood.

"Sorry 'bout them," they said with their candy in their mouth, “but yeah, Herbology is always fun." Adlai nodded though her attention was a bit more fixated on Eyre as she hoped he wasn’t too affected by Cashes words.

Mars then held out a piece of candy to them. “Want one?” They asked. Adlai nodded as she took one, “Yes, thank you.” It had been a while since she had eaten any sort of candy since her mother wasn’t very fond of her and her sisters having sweets. Thus her father would sometimes seek some candy into the house to give to them after dinner. Johanna, her youngest sister, had to be sworn to secrecy since he knew she’d tell their mother otherwise.

Remembering this Adlai began to miss her family, though she knew the months leading up to winter break would fly by, it would be hard. Hogwarts was still so new to Adlai. Trying to shake off the lonely feeling in her gut she opened the candy and popped it into her mouth. Reaching into the left pocket of her ankle length skirt she pulled out her small coin purse and put the rapper inside. She’d properly throw it away once she reaches her dorm room.

"It's not the first time I've heard that today. Don't really need you to reiterate it, thanks." Eyre jabbed back, his eyes blistering with intensity.

He was far too numb for the animosity of the girl who was sitting in front of him. He'd already had a screaming match earlier with his closest friend, it would be a shame to have one again with a stranger that he really could care less about. He started to shuffle around for his bag to leave, as he felt like it wasn't even worth the effort having to subject himself to the girl who seemed to have the personality of a rotting carcass.

But, then, the wix who introduced themselves as Mars was quick to shut down Cash's comments, which he appreciated, offering up a lollipop to him. They seemed cool and level-headed, like his friend, Zyk. He took it from them with a nod and a forced smile, unwrapping it before putting it in his mouth.

Sour apple. A flavor that he'd likely associate with this shitty day for the rest of his life. Still tasty, though.

He suckled on the candy for a few moments to satiate the frustration that he had, his tears going dry. Now, he just felt empty on the inside. The compartment was quiet for a second as they enjoyed their treats. He glanced down at Mars' guitar case.

"You play the guitar? That's cool." He said. "I did piano lessons until I was 10, but my parents-" He stuttered, the words feeling heavy on his tongue. "My adoptive parents cut them off after they realized that I was more interested in graphic novels instead." It was weird even to him, referring to his parents in that way. He'd never done it before, but he wasn't sure what the right terminology was. They weren't the ones who gave birth to him, but they were the ones that raised him. It was all too confusing.

After the way how Mars greeted the occupants of the compartment, the Raven introduced themselves and once again Adlai introduced herself. They said they know the Slytherin girl but not the other two. While looking at the window, the purple haired girl had their own internal debate.

Maybe they out of line but the boy behavior just annoyed the green eyes girl. Cash took of their shades and slipped it on the front of their black t-shirt. After Cash lashed out the air become awkward and it was supposed to be a enjoy ride during the journey back to school. The sit beside them dipped and Mars sit beside the green eyes girl.

Cash about to open their mouth but Mars called them. "That was rather uncalled for, doncha think?"Mars questioned their close friend. Cash grunted out. Internally they agreed with Mars but their pride get in the way to say it out loud. "You don't know what he's been through. Besides—"Mars continue.

The pause between what Mars said intrigue the serpent. Mars fingers of their closed hand popped open, a lollipop present on their open palm. "You're not looking much better yourself"They grinned. Cash looked down and they grabbed the lollipop from Mars's hand. "Thanks"Cash stated. They unwrapped the rapper and directly put the lollipop in their mouth.

The three kind of flavor from the lollipop bursted in the green eyes girls' mouth. The taste of apple, strawberry and watermelon. Cash tried to suppressed their grin but the eventually gave up. Cash always a sucker for lollipops and Cash had to admit, the way Mars defuse the situation was smart.

Mars offered it to Adlai and Eyre, both take what Mars offers. Mars then said an apology on the behalf of Cash, they also said that Herbology is always fun. The jabbed from Eyre was something Cash did not anticipated. While suckling on the treat, Cash let out a smirk. "Look,"Cash sighed. "I am sorry for the way I acted"They said.

"It just-"They broke off. Cash did not know whether they want to tell the others about their current home situation. Everybody think just because they come from a luxury life, they always happy. At the end Cash decided to open up. But the lingering thought if they seek pity from the other three present itself in the back of their mind.

"One day father just gone"They spoke. "Sure, I am not particularly close with him but I do not know how to act or feel"The serpent stated honestly. When they say it out loud it feel like some the weight was lifted off from their shoulders. Back home their mother asked them to talk about it.

Let their feeling out. To be honest they are not so great with feelings. Cash let out a small smile and the situation got silenced again. The air thick with heaviness and sadness until Eyre decided to change the topic. The curly mane boy saw Mars guitar. He told that he did piano lesson once but his adoptive parents stopped the lesson once they realized they Eyre more interested in graphic novels than study music.

"I wish I had that option"Cash told the other three. "And well played, Mars. Well played indeed"Cash looked at their friend and let out a chuckle. "Just so you know I am a sucker for lollipops"They expressed. Hoping with their last statement will bring the joy feeling back into the compartment and the four of them forgot that the earlier argument had ever happened.

There was a tense moment between Eyre's retort and their placating statements, long enough that Mars had time to process what he'd said. Heard it before today? What had happened in the few hours between sunrise and now that could cause such a look?

They were glad though that he'd stopped shuffling around for his bag, choosing to remain in the compartment. Cash was brutal sometimes, and even now more than ever, but inside Mars knew they had a good heart.

Mars smiled when the girl, Adlai, complimented their pin. It'd been working wonders ever since Pride Month and it was pretty to boot. They grinned as the two took the candies, dusting the hand off on a pant leg before sitting back against the chair.

Cash's apology reverberated through their skull. Their story explained a lot of the behavior.

"You've all had some pretty crappy summers, huh?" they poked, tucking an ankle over their knee. Summer... this summer wasn't something they had strong feels about. Regret, anger certainly, that they couldn't go back and see their brothers, but in all honesty, the stay with Lydia had been pleasant. Their maid never failed to make them smile. Mars imagined if they had a real mother, they'd want her to be like that.

They thought for a moment that they ought to ask Cash about the whole father thing. Maybe even ask Eyre what had happened before the train ride. But then, those were their stories to tell. They wouldn't pry if it wasn't necessary, especially since there was more than one person in here and the initial impressions... had been less than friendly.

"Heh, thanks," they responded to Eyre, glancing down at their guitar case, "I'm self-taught, so I'm not incredible but I do have.. what's it called? Ah, perfect pitch."

Mars stifled a laugh the small story he had in return. "Piano seems fun," they commented, "Ever regret not continuing?" They thought that maybe there was something odd about the way he said "adoptive" but then... it was probably them hearing things. They shrugged it off, listening to Cash return their opinion.

"Well, you turned out okay, they quipped, eyes softening as they took in their friend, "And thank you. I've learned from experience that lollipops always help a situation." It seems that they really had this time around.

It seemed that at least a bit of normalcy had returned to the compartment. Swirling the sucker around in their mouth, Mars looked at Adlai.

"How 'bout you?" they asked, "Any grand summer stories?"

"Any grand summer stories?" Mars had asked her. Rolling the candy in her mouth with her tongue into the side of her mouth Adlai nodded. "Yes, actually. My mother actually organized a trip for my family and I to go to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park which was quite interesting. It was quite the journey from where I live though. Nonetheless I enjoyed it."
Though there were greater events that happened she didn't find it appropriate to share with people she has just met. After all she was doing her best to keep the atmosphere in the car light since other travelers seemed to be in lower spirits.
"How about you? Did do you anything interesting?" she asked mars, however the question to open to anyone who wished the answer it.
Adlai was quite the social person if given the chance. When someone would talk to her she couldn't help but want to stretch out the conversation to be as long as possible. Her great aunt, Margret-Viktoria, used to tease her about it, saying that Adlai must love the sound of her own voice though that wasn't the truth at all. Adlai just liked talking, no matter the subject.
Though if things were rather sad or dull she was swiftly try to guide the conversation into a new direction, so then perhaps both she and those she was conversing with would be in a better mood and would lead to happier, more enjoyable talking points.
