Stop That, I'm Brooding
@Dealla Prince
The way Dee tilted her head and watched curiously in an almost avian manner amused Ana. She had often wondered what exactly got a student placed in Ravenclaw since she herself and plenty of other students were curious and got good marks and yet weren't Eagles. At that moment, there was something that Ana couldn't exactly put her finger on that made it clear exactly why the younger girl had been placed where she was. It wasn't just the bird thing either. Food for thought...
Ana nodded at Dee's words. Fire wasn't something that could truly be controlled and it was foolish to fear it for its nature. She had learned that it wasn't something to use as freely and fearlessly as she might have previously thought, but that didn't mean it was something malicious. "Exactly," Ana mused. "It does what it will, and personally, I fail to see the point in fearing something for that. It can do a fair amount of damage, but then again, so can many other things." Ana wasn't the first to draw a parallel between herself and fire and she doubted she would be the last. Half the school, it seemed, ventured too close and were surprised when they were burned. It wasn't really the same as fire, since fire couldn't exactly choose whether or not to set things ablaze, but Ana rather liked the comparison.
Dee's wide grin at the mention of mischief was incredibly endearing, and despite Ana's resolve not to like or befriend anyone, the younger girl was definitely growing on her. Despite her rather committed attempts not to need other people, it was becoming more and more clear that she did. She needed people more than she was fully willing to admit to herself, and her self-imposed isolation was wearing on her. She doubted her refusal to speak to most of her friends beyond a few syllables was remotely well received by any of them, but she was still certain it was her best option.
Ana smiled slightly as Dee asked if she wanted to go up there. Ana had many talents, but climbing was most definitely not one of them. "I'd better not," she said, her eyes flitting up once more. With the way her luck was lately, she would probably manage to fall off the minute she began climbing. Still, the idea intrigued her and she mentally tucked it away for a day when she had the time and energy to try it.
Dee looked somewhat skeptical at the "not good at friends" comment. No matter how she approached it, Ana was terrible at friends. Whether it meant making new friends or being a good friend to the ones she already had, she was abysmal at it. When meeting new people, Ana was far more hex them than have a conversation with them. She had thought she was a pretty good friend to the few she deemed worthy of her time and friendship, but the past week alone had more than disproven that."I suppose we can," Ana said, a slight smile stubbornly turning her lips upward. "It was lovely meeting you, Dee, but I'd best be going." With that, Ana straightened up and brushed herself off before making her way down the stairs to get a cup of coffee and ideally some food before classes started for the day.

Anastasia's nod and words triggered a flash of a smile, bright and approving. "True," she agreed. "There are few things that can't do damage under the right circumstances. Although you do have to be more careful with fire than with most other things." She shrugged, still smiling. Much more than due to the topic, there was a sense of smugness about her that she'd managed to coax Anastasia into replying this time instead of brushing her off with two-word answers. That was definite progress - a defining milestone in their relationship, basically. She really didn't seem as scary as everyone made her out to be.
Her suggestion of climbing up onto the roof was declined, but again, Dee didn't miss the way Anastasia's eyes glancing upwards just for a moment, and her smile widened a little, growing more smug, impish. "Maybe another time then," she said, shrugging it off. It hadn't been in her plans for today, either, and she didn't mind the Gryffindor not wanting to. The smile was success enough.
At this point, it felt a little like the conversation had run its course. Dee had been contributing most of it anyway, and she was starting to feel restless, antsy, eager to get moving now that she was up so early for once. There was a whole day ahead of her. "We should," she said genuinely, feeling just a tiny bit relieved for some reason when Anastasia agreed to her proposal of non-friends hangouts. "Brooding too much isn't good for you." She grinned and gave a silly half-wave. "It was interesting meeting you, too. I'm sure I'll see you around."
When Ana left, Dee turned around for another look at the rising sun. It had been an interesting start to her day, for sure, and she had a feeling the rest of the day would live up to the beginnings.
Thread left.
