As luck would have it, so was he for meeting someone so vulnerable. For that he felt a lot less alone when she admitted to feeling like an outsider, even before the baby was born. "Say, would want to be my friend?" He said, before shyly retreating his hands up and into his sleeves while his mouth withdrew behind his robe collar. "We could write letters and stuff, maybe even complain about our family." Although the lower half of his face was hidden from view, his eyes were full of kindness and his voice carried hope.

"No need to say yes right away, you can write me anytime." Mustering all of his confidence, Sylvain exited his robed shell and wrote his name and address down on a piece of paper for the young witch named Maria. "I should really get going, but it's been really pleasant talking to you." A slight smile creeped across his chin as the the February sun caught a glimmer of excitement in his eyes.

There was a book he'd been meaning to catch up on waiting patiently for him just inside the Ravenclaw common room. If he stuck around to chat much longer he might forget it in search of something more food like.

Sylvain was not the first person to explicitly ask her if she wanted to be friends and she guessed throughout her stay at the school he wouldn’t be the last. She still wasn’t quite used to it, but it definitely didn’t bother her and she definitely didn’t mind being friends with the boy. He was kind, and seemed like a great person to talk to, and anyone who she could talk to about family was always welcome – even if it was through owls and letters.

“Actually, I’d like that.” She smiled. “I’d like that a lot.” She nodded. “Letters would be wonderful.” It was nice to know that the shy boy had warmed up to her enough to want to be friends. Frankly she was sure she blew that chance with her awkward ramblings about her family situation. But he seemed to understand, and besides who was she to turn away a friend that also liked to write letters?

“I’ll see you around.” She would smile as he made his way out of the owlery, probably to attend to other matters. Before he left he handed her his information for their correspondence. She put it in her pocket for safety, making a mental note to put it in her journal or to write it somewhere she wouldn’t lose it.

With one last look at the sky, silently wishing the owl safety on its way to Hillingdon, she walked back to her common room. There was much to do and think about apart from her musings of home, and that potions work wasn’t going to do itself.
